A name is a noun that is used to differentiate an object from another. People have personal names as well as animals. ..Nama’’ was the term used in Old English, to refer to ,, name’’. In different mythologies is thought that having the name of an object you have power over it. During medieval times, when a  knight was defeated in a duel , he had to unveil his name. This being a humiliating moment. In the Old Testament the people’s names are full of meaning. Surnames were not given to biblical Jewish people.

On internet chat rooms we can use other names than of the ones we already have. There are no rules on chat rooms like: MSN, ICQ, Aim, AOL, email, you can choose what name you want. You can even combine two words to create special name or choose a male name although you are a female.

Parents name their children after their parents, or at least one of the child’s name is identical with the aunt’s, godmother or godfather. A person can have 2 or even more names. I have a friend with 3 names: Maria Carla Miruna. Because every grandmother wanted to name her differently. What is really amusing is that her relatives call her Maria, or Miruna or Carla.

When I saw the light of the day, that was in 1982, many girls were named Andreea. I don’t know why? And every period has a favorite name. For instance in 2007 I remember that many girls were named Alexia .

Your name can stand at the basis of your personality. Your name is the first think that one hears when he/she meets you. People tend to associate the name they hear with ones personality. Contemporary names may sound great to you for the moment but how about when your child gets older, and the name sounds weird?
