They basically use an imaging machine which functions on magnetic resonance and it can record mental activity. The recording are later processed and with their help, they can predict the mental patterns for the person which was scanned. Up until now, these tests have generated different sets of pictures and it appears that this computer (or decoder as it is otherwise called) has shown good accuracy. Scientist say that one day, this decoder may be capable of actually reconstructing the visual content of dreams. How crazy does that sound? This decoder could be of use in so many fields. Not only could it replace the common lie detector, but it would help doctors help patients with mental disorders if they had a better idea what was going on inside their brain. The idea and gadget are absolutely brilliant… but a bit scary at the same time if you think that someone could sedate you and see what is happening inside your brain, against your will.
