This is an excellent product. I have owned many dvd-rw and cd-rw drives throughout the years and this one is very good. It burns CD’s and DVD’s fast and without errors even on the fastest speed. The previous burner I had would burn audio cd’s with errors when I had it set to 40X but this one handles the top speed with no problems. I have burned all types of cd’s and dvd’s on it already: audio, data, bootables, and they all work great. I haven’t used the lightscribe feature yet so I have no opinion on that but when burning cd’s and dvd’s you can’t beat it especially for the price.

I haven’t tried the software, but it doesn’t seem that you need it. It works just how it should, and whenever I’m watching a DVD on my computer it seems to spend very little time reading the disc. Very quiet. My only complaint is that it was really light which made it seem cheap… but it does seem to be well built (for example the tray is very sturdy when it’s fully ejected). I recommend it.

Works as it should I’m running Linux mint 8, so no need for the Software that it comes with.

Although most would describe this unit as cheap for its price, I just would say it’s affordable… the difference, well this unit does what it should do in a very reliable and fast way. It’s not noisy at all and the installation was simple as it can be. After looking for a decent CD/DVD writer, tons of different prices, I decided to try this one because its price.

I just have to state a warning, the picture here on Amazon it’s not the product you will receive, I guess that’s the GH24LS50 and the one you’re buying is the GH24NS50. This unit (GH24NS50) is the one that doesn’t have live scribe, on my personal case… who cares! But I know that a lot of people would see the description image and buy it thinking it’s compatible with live scribe when its actually not.

Further than that, I completely recommend this unit, very affordable, reliable and I simply love it!

So im just going to get right into it.

The speed of this drive was typical and expected.

The drive was quieter than others and was built with quality in mind.

The ONLY issue i truly have with it, is the 2-3 second delay time when opening the tray.

(i press the eject button 1… 2… hey! it opens!)

I dont know if this is normal, but i have an optical drive from a 2001 computer and that thing opens its tray immediately.

Of course, it’s not as quiet as my LG, but thats not the point.

    Conclusion:

This drive isn’t perfect, but it is worth my $20.

I personally recommend this product unless the tray delay time is a big issue for you. Otherwise get a lite-on. Those are great too.
