Terribly important news! The Iron Man 2 premier has been moved from London to Los Angeles due to the travel complications created by the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull. If Iron Men were real, he would have placed a giant filter on top of the volcano, preventing all of this chaos from the get-go. This volcano is now officially the worst thing to happen in the whole history of humanity.

Officially official (as opposed to rumored, I suppose): You can now stream Netflix on your Nintendo Wii. You can only stream in standard definition, so if that matters to you… Oh, and you’ll need to request a streaming disc, à la the PS3, in order to stream content. That’s about it.

Whew, I was worried there for a minute. Microsoft has confirmed that the Halo movie is still in development, putting at ease dozens of people around the world.

The Halo movie has been in development since practically forever, only to be delayed, stalled, re-booted, etc. That’s usually not a good sign…

Microsoft says that it’ll make the movie when “the time is right. We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic.”

That last part speaks to me, I think. I was 15 when the first Halo game came out, and I’m pretty sure I would have been OK with the idea of a movie based on the game. Now? Ha! No chance, dogsie. I’d rather play the game (well…) if only because I know the movie will be pretty rank.

Wow, someone has been tricked into making a Red Faction movie. That blows my mind. I base this on the first Red Faction for the PS2, which I don’t recall enjoying at all. Maybe it’ll be the first time we say the opposite of, “Eh, the book was better.”

THQ has developed something called a “trans-media strategy,” which is a fancy way of saying that THQ wants to branch outside of the video game business. Nothing wrong with that, I guess, making a couple of extra dollars by tricking some production company into turning Red Faction into a movie. Although now that I think of it, Metro 2033, a THQ-published game that I bought last week (and according to the new Steam UI I have played for a whopping three hours so far), could be a good movie, provided it was done correctly.

I mean, it won’t be done correctly, so it’s best to just enjoy the game as-is.

THQ has promised that it’s going to be more than merely selling the rights to its game to some pinhead Hollywood studio, saying it’s “going to be doing the most robust trans-media plays anybody’s ever seen in the games business.”

I’m only like 200 words into this post and I’m already sick of the phrase “trans-media.” It sound so cold, you know?

Then again, video games are “good” because they’re interactive. You yourself are part of the action, and that’s a completely different experience from sitting back and watching Magnolia on your fancy TV. (That movie’s use of music is right up there with The Thin Red Line and The New World.) You can’t just shoe-horn a video game into a movie script and call it a day, as we’ve seen time and time again.

Beat City, baby. The famous Ferrari from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is being auctioned off. It’s not a real Ferrari, mind you, since the movie’s producer’s couldn’t actually afford to pay for only to have it crash in Cameron’s back yard.

The car—remember, it’s a replica—is expected to fetch between £30,000 and £60,000, or around $45,000 to $91,000.

Those fancy Pound Sterling symbols should signal the fact that the auction is going down in the UK—at Bonhams, to be exact. (As if I’ve ever heard of Bonhams before!)

And here’s a bit of random trivia: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off holds the record for being the film that I’ve seen the most times. Not that I’m in love with it or anything, but it was always on TV, and I always watched it.

I’d actually like to see the Top Gear guys but the car, so we can see James Richardson Jeremy Clarkson drive around Europe in it. “Yes, ladies, this is the Ferris Bueller car. Ta-ta!”
