The idea that St. Bernards roam snowy mountains with miniature barrels of hooch strapped to their collars in search of trapped hikers is another one of those ‘facts’ I learned from cartoons. But discovering that you can actually buy those mini barrels, compete with miniature spigots, is the only proof I’ll ever need. Made from American White Oak and wrapped in 6 metal bands with your choice of finish, the barrels come attached to a leather collar that can be trimmed as needed to fit smaller dogs (making for an even more entertaining sight gag) and are available in 1/2 liter or 1 liter capacities for $49.95 and $56.95 respectively.

Thanko’s peeing USB wee man

It’s Thanko time again. Today the Tokyo-based crap gadget company released another of their weird inventions, the Shoubenkozou [JP], a cupid-like mini figure that for some reason is able to “pee”. And needless to say, the thing can be connected to your computer’s USB port.

Thanko says the thing is actually supposed to be a small pump. Put the little guy on top of the 1-liter tank that comes with him and press a button. As a result, the wee man starts peeing. And this even works without USB, as you can use batteries as an alternative. Brilliant stuff again from Thanko.

The Shoubenkozou is available in four colors and costs $20. If you live outside Japan and really want to get one (I doubt it), wait for Thanko to list the gadget in the official English online store.

The BMX bike’s heyday may have ended back in the 80’s, but Rintendo has found a way to make me want one again. They’re currently selling this little contraption known as the Fire Trick Bob which appears to be an actual rocket-powered bicycle. According to their site (Google translation) the turbine engine spins at a rate of 120,000 RPM and produces the equivalent of 4.4 horsepower. The 1 liter fuel tank is good for about 7 minutes of continual thrust, and you’ll probably want to be careful about where you’re riding this thing since the exhaust can reach about 700 degrees. So is it dangerous? Yes. But is it worth 1,000,000 Yen or about $10,000? Double yes!
