A digital 3D presentation that wows viewers with striking 3D effects, Fly Me to the Moon is a retelling of the 1969 Apollo 11 landing on the moon from the perspective of three young flies that allegedly hitched a ride on the historic flight. Nat, IQ, and Scooter live by the credo “If it’s not an adventure, it’s not worth doing,” so when the three flies get a chance to sneak aboard the space shuttle for a ride to the moon, all systems are definitely go. While Grandpa McFly and Nat’s young maggot siblings applaud the boys’ adventuresome spirits, their mothers stereotypically swoon and fret over their safety. The flies encounter several unanticipated twists including the trip’s week-long duration, a short in the ship’s circuitry, a Russian fly plot to sabotage their mission, and their mid-flight imprisonment in a test tube. Nintendo Announces The DS’s Successor, The 3DS

Nintendo 3DS (Image property OhGizmo!)
By Andrew Liszewski

By now you’ve probably already heard that last night Nintendo spilled the beans on the successor to their immensely popular DS portable gaming system. Well, spilled the beans maybe isn’t best way to describe their announcement about it, more like just cracking open the can and letting us have a whiff of what’s inside. In fact, here’s the extent of what they ‘announced’ regarding the new Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo Co., Ltd.(Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch “N intendo 3D S”(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.

“Nintendo 3DS”(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed “Nintendo DS series”, whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.

We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.

At this point all we can do is speculate on what the system will look like and how it will work, but no one had really predicted any kind of 3D being part of the new system’s functionality, even though it’s all the rage now. Of course given Nintendo’s history with 3D gaming systems, I’m going to try and remain cautiously optimistic about the 3DS, but so far I’ve yet to come across a glasses-free 3D display that didn’t leave me feeling woozy after just a few minutes. So here’s to hoping Nintendo has something really revolutionary up their sleeves while we count down the days until E3.

Heatswell cups – coming to a coffee shop near you?

Posted by on Monday, 22 March, 2010

So this is pretty cool; inventor Scott Amron has come up with a really interesting product for the hot beverage industry. We’ve told you about another product Scott came up with, the split ring key, which didn’t seem quite so useful.

The current technology involves using a thick piece of paper that has to be applied every time a cup of coffee is poured. The Heatswell cup incorporates a heat sensitive, biodegradable paper that is attached the cup during manufacture, which insulates and reacts to temperature. The Heatswell paper reacts dramatically, and can incorporate 3D effects and logos as well.

More information is available on the Heatswell website. Run a coffee shop? Ask for a few and see how they work.

Spider-Man reboot to be shot in 3D (!!!)

Posted by on Wednesday, 10 February, 2010

No matter how you feel about the Spider-Man franchise going a new direction without Toby Maguire, you have to admit that a 3D Spider-Man movie has at least potential to be awesome. If soaring through the word of Avatar made you sick, just think what web-slinging through the streets of NYC will feel like. Yeah, you’re going to love it — or hate it.

But hopefully the 3D effects doesn’t compensate for a lackluster story line. After all the fact that the film is set to follow Peter Parker through his high-school years leaves already leaves a queasy feeling in a lot nerd’s stomach. I mean, outside of seeing all the films, watching the cartons and reading some random Spider-Man comics, I’m not a Spider-Man expert, but doesn’t that timeline place the film before he’s bit by the radioactive spider while attending NYU?

Avatar won the weekend despite a blocking attempt by Mother Nature

Posted by on Monday, 21 December, 2009

3d-movieI have yet to see a bad review of Avatar and a bunch of people went to see the movie too. Avatar brought in $232.2m in its opening weekend, although it could have been so much more if global warming could have helped out a bit. East Coasters probably were probably too busy digging out from over a foot of snow that fell over the last few days to go see a movie.

Out of the $232.2 million, only $73 came from the US and Canada. The rest were primarily from the UK, France, and Russia. While the opening numbers weren’t record-breaking impressive, the movie will probably continue to sell great as word-of-mouth reviews rave about the 3D effects. This is definitely one that deserves your money, folks. At least that’s what I hear.
