Strategy Analytics: China leapfrogs US to become world’s top smartphone market

Posted by on Wednesday, 23 November, 2011
The winds of tech consumerism are changing course. More specifically, they’re heading east. According to the latest Q3 figures from Strategy Analytics, China is now the world’s largest smartphone market by volume, overtaking the US for the first time. According to the research firm, smartphone shipments in China reached a record high of 23.9 million units during the third quarter of this year, up 58 percent from Q2. Compare that with the US, which saw shipments decline by seven percent over the quarter, to 23.3 million units. The Boston-based firm attributed much of China’s growth to a spike in cheaper, Android-based handsets from companies like ZTE, as well as a flowering of subsidized higher-end models, like the iPhone. Nokia leads the way within the People’s Republic, accounting for 28 percent of all quarterly shipments, followed by Samsung, with an 18 percent share. Find more quotes and charts in the press release after the break, or hit up the source link below for the full report.

The Importance Of Spreadsheet Training

Posted by on Sunday, 20 February, 2011

Step into any office and you will find the ubiquitous electronic spreadsheets, the most popular of which is Microsoft Excel although the OpenOffice.org Calc is not far behind. This type of spreadsheet has been around for at least a couple of decades already. And since using it has not been regularly taught in school, spreadsheet training programs has become a necessity because of it.

Years ago when the electronic software was developed, people use it mostly for two purposes. One, as a storage of their data (for database usage) and the other, as a calculator. In fact, up to now, people are still using these spreadsheets as glorified calculators. The problem is that office employees are not all trained properly to harness the full potential of these spreadsheets. So what happens is they are using such software on less then important tasks, at least if that’s what they do with it.

However, as weird as that may sound, it is one of the ways that a spreadsheet can help speed things up in the office. Especially if the employee has been working on spreadsheets for a long time that making fast calculations using the cells has become second nature to him. But there are other good uses for this application.

Are you still using paper-bound ledgers? Aside from you being left behind by the times, you should know by now that if you are the owner of a small business that you should look into ways that you can automate certain processes in your workflow. And that is what electronic spreadsheets can do for you. Perhaps you are doing your own accounting. To help you with that, saving and calculating your financial data would be a lot easier and faster when done through a spreadsheet program.

Have you ever thought of undergoing a Microsoft Excel training Melbourne to enhance your and your employees’ skills on using spreadsheets? Often it would take just lest than a day to finish the lessons, especially since you already know a little on how to use electronic spreadsheets. Although a live training would be the ideal set up, you can still learn about it through books and video tutorials. Although using the latter choices would mean you are mostly on your own to analyze the processes being taught to you.

And also, aside from the speed that you would be introducing to your office productivity, there is one indirect benefit of using this kind of software. And that is you will be giving nature a good turn. That is because you will be using less paper from now on.

And with ledgers you will be severely limited by the size of the book or of the paper. If you need more lines and there no more left, you will have to get another ledger. Just imagine how hard it is to keep track of your information using this old method. With electronic spreadsheets you there is virtually limitless entries that you can make. Plus you can format it in whatever way that you prefer.

These are just some of the reasons why you should start contacting a registered training organisation Melbourne to help you with a spreadsheet training program for your employees. Now is the best time that you make the digital conversion.

Intel busts out best first quarter figures since 1968

Posted by on Wednesday, 14 April, 2010

The recession is over! —for the semiconductor industry, at least. Intel has reported monster numbers for its first quarter, showing over $10bn in revenue, a huge jump over last year. Recovery of demand in places like China has driven the numbers, and Intel is happy as a clam — so much so that they’re going to be hiring a thousand or more workers. I’d also guess that the success of the Core i* line is really letting them rake it in.

While Intel’s main competitor, AMD, is excelling in the graphics card battle against NVIDIA, the Phenom series of processors isn’t quite as competitive against Intel’s Core series. Intel holds the “performance” card, which is useful if you like to charge lots of money.

The latest MacBook Pros also sport Core i5s and i7s, so that’s another strong and growing market for the popular CPUs. If you’re interested in more accounting, the Wall Street Journal has more numbers for you.

How To Find Free Payroll Software

Posted by on Friday, 12 February, 2010

From free payroll software download. Payroll can be tedious, can’t it? All those numbers, all those calculations, all those taxation details, the whole exercise can be a major pain for any business owner. No-charge payroll programs are able to eliminate these hassles. But, you may ask, why does one need software for payroll?

If you have a small office, with very few employees, all of them working from the same location, and all of them on a straight salary, you may not need a lot of help with payroll calculations. Irritating or otherwise, it is still possible for you to handle those ornery tasks on your own. It may not be pleasant, it may not be fun, but it’s possible. If you are a part of a bigger company, no-charge payroll programs are quite a bit more essential.

If you have a larger outfit, with people working from more than one location, payroll can get a little more complicated than a straight forward calculation of wages. Other payroll complications such as shift differentials, overtime benefits, and variances in pay levels make the payroll process even more difficult than one person can handle adequately.

If all employees are based out of one location, earning straight forward salaries, no-charge payroll programs are nice to have, but they’re not a necessity. However, many companies’ payroll circumstances are not that easy. As you and your organization grows, and you find yourself dealing with more complications, it’s time for help with the payroll.

These days, many computerized payroll programs exist to help company owners. The choices will run from a large package with hundreds of features to handle a large number of accounting and payroll tasks, to simply ones for figuring wages and taxes, so you have almost limitless choices. You also have choices to buy the package yourself, download the shareware, or choose a free payroll software package. No matter what your needs, you can find what you’re looking for.

So how to go about choosing the correct free payroll software for your needs? Well, the first, and most common sense step to take would be to conduct an online search. All it takes is typing “free payroll software” in your favorite search engine’s bar, and then start looking through the large number of companies offering this type of software to download. But don’t rush into anything. Try to find out what the package offers, whether it has all the features that you need, and what the reports and reviews say about it.

Search out user opinions on several independent websites to make sure the free payroll program you are thinking about using is valuable and contains no major computer errors. The website advertising the payroll program will undoubtedly rave about the benefits of their software.

It’s not smart to just accept their word for it and end up downloading a program that isn’t what you want or need at this point. So do a little research, find the right free payroll software, and simplify your organization’s payroll tasks.

Uk Printer Company is Thinking Small

Posted by on Wednesday, 10 February, 2010

A UK company, PrintDreams, is currently preparing to release a new product called the PrintBrush. The handheld printer is to be the smallest printer in the world and can print full size formats (A4 or letter size). It’s roughly the size of a modern mobile phone and weighs about 12 ounces. The device uses Bluetooth technology to print documents from a variety of mobile devices. Then, you simply move your hand above the media and the PrintBrush gets to work, accounting for inconsistencies in your hand movement in the process.

According to their website, the PrintBrush will be superior to normal printers and other mobile printers for a variety of reasons. For example, the device will be able to print onto any media it can reach, meaning items like notebooks and other papers which couldn’t typically be fed through a normal printer. Additionally, PrintDreams claims their product runs silently, allowing for discrete use, and uses no messy cables. No word on printer ink yet, though.

The printer will be an ideal product for people on the go. Students could use the PrintBrush to print documents and notes in between classes (or even in class).  And the printer has lots of business applications. Imagine editing and printing a contract out for a client in the middle of a restaurant, or being able to print out notes for an important meeting in the cab on the way to work.

Some preliminary product specifications, according to the manufacturer:

• Resolution: 600dpi monochrome

• Print technology: inkjet and RMPT™ Full

• Max. speed: 250mm/sec

• Volume: Approx. 200cc

• Weight: Approx. 250gm

• Interfaces: USB 2.0, Bluetooth, IRda

• Power supply: rechargable Li-Ion battery

PrintDreams says the PrintBrush will launch at the end of this year, or possible early next year. The preliminary retail price will be roughly $199 USD. Take look here.

A Matter Management Software System Why Do Businesses Need It So Much?

Posted by on Monday, 8 February, 2010

To any one without any formal legal background, Legal Matter Management is merely a smattering of jargon thrown together to boggle our minds. On the other hand, to those that are concerned in firms or firms that need correct, day by day intelligence which will aid them in every area of their legal work processes, it’s irreplaceable. Matter management software supplies the most excellent platform to efficiently organize information and then effectively distribute claimed information. There also are features for e billing and a litigation hold system.

Matter management software is one of the most commonly known and used software systems for in-house legal departments. This legal tool can automate everything and increase accountability while reducing costs, streamlining case handling, executing workflow and traceable document-handling, collaborating with business units, partnering with outside counsel and ensuring compliance. Matter management software systems serve a selection of functions for the company counsel of today, including conflict and ethics control, correct matter opening, day by day matter work, business intelligence, and selling. Being able to automatically track folks, sorts of legal work, industries of the matters or clients, witnesses, judges, courts, opposing counsel issues, documents, budgets and invoices makes each legal matter much more manageable.

Yes, everyone knows there are some diehards who just want to continue to travel the old ‘status quo’ route with matter management, leaving it all to hard copy paper, pen, pencil and inter-office memo boxes. These folk believe that since they have been doing things a certain way ( the old fashioned way ) for such a long time, what could most likely be the point in learning an entire new process? We all know someone that strongly believes you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

But what about all of the loss of information, time wasted and money that goes with this old way of doing things. Of course, these same people follow suit with billing (never e billing) and likewise with litigation hold. Unfortunately, we are living in afast world, and matter management software with e billing and legal action hold features will not only save you time and money but will also streamline communication and augment information capacities, so making your office a well-oiled machine to handle whatever needs might arise.

E billing is an automated system that is used to organize and manage all of the information with your accounting system. E billing submits invoices to clients and makes it simpler for them to make a payment. It also unifies the processing system and keeps complete records for all expenses that are billed.

If that’s not enough, litigation hold software totally minimizes the mistakes and time that are inherent with natural human mistake. Excellent litigation hold software will create simpler communication, provide info management, improve the checking of information and expand transparency. The software will also permit approved personnel to recognize relevant subject material, sequester it and circulate it if required, all of the while providing immediate replies to litigation proof requests. Legal action hold software is final part of the desperately required technology backbone software thatis imperative for any successful legal dep..
