Paul McCartney: ‘You can keep free streaming for the birds and bees, now give me money’

Paul McCartney pulls his music from streaming services, money's all he wants
A wise man once told Engadget that streaming and bought music services could live side-by-side like a piano keyboard. It looks like impoverished multi-millionaire Sir Paul McCartney didn’t hear that particular song, as he’s withdrawn all of his music from streaming service Rhapsody, after doing the same to Spotify some time ago. He’s the latest in a long line of impecunious artists including Adele, Coldplay and Tom Waits, who have done the same as they feel they’re not getting fair compensation for their labors. It would be cynical to point out that McCartney’s move comes just ahead of a live performance that’s exclusively streamed on the iTunes music store and Apple TV, so we won’t.

Hacked Powermat lets you touch-to-charge your iPhone in stop-and-go traffic

Posted by on Monday, 26 December, 2011

When you’re cruising down the highway, you’ve got much better things to do than fiddling with iPhone cables — like, you know, texting and playing Angry Birds. Thankfully, this handy little Powermat hack brings the fun of wireless charging to the comfort of your mobile office, to help free up your hands a bit — at least until Siri learns how to steer. Video after the break and instructions in the source link — but please, pull over to the side of the road before attempting to install.

iPhone Boots BlackBerry from Business World

Posted by on Friday, 18 November, 2011

Crushed under an avalanche of Angry Birds, FourSquare check-ins, and Skype chatter, the BlackBerry is finally losing its grip on the enterprise.

At least, that’s what mobile services seller iPass found in its latest survey of people who use mobile devices such as laptops and smartphones for work.

Last year, mobile workers surveyed by iPass reported that …

Wow. No wonder the birds are angry

Posted by on Sunday, 30 October, 2011

The number two free app on Apple’s app store is Cut the Birds by SolverLabs, which is a mash-up of two really popular iOS games – Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. Sure they are not ‘exactly‘ the same, but play the game for a couple of minutes and you quickly realize why the app is getting angry reviews. I am just surprised it slipped past the Apple censors.

Roku adds more casual games to its streaming box

Posted by on Tuesday, 16 August, 2011

Right on the heels of million in new funding, Roku has added seven new casual games to its streaming boxes. [Thanks to reader @joelbrave for pointing this out in our comments!] The games, which appear to be internally developed by Roku, follow on the release of Angry Birds on its new devices and will add some additional revenues to the hardware manufacturer.

The games are as follows:

  • Dracula’s Coffin
  • Texas Hold ‘em
  • Sudoku
  • Rockswap Adventures
  • Patience
  • Kaboom
  • Mahjong Fruits

The new casual games, which just appeared in the Roku Channel Store, all cost .99 and many are similar to games available on other platforms. Unlike Angry Birds, there’s little action, as they are mostly puzzle games. Texas Hold ‘em and Sudoku should be familiar to most users; meanwhile, Rockswap Adventures appears to be a Bejeweled knockoff, Patience is a version of solitaire and Kaboom is very similar to Minesweeper.

Roku’s new casual games come with the release of the latest version of products, which add smoother graphics capabilities and a gaming controller that contains an accelerometer. The Roku 2 XS system launched with Angry Birds, and new games from developers like Rovio and Namco are expected soon.
