The days of being tied to a traditional TV to watch your favorite shows is becoming less and less of a dream — at least for Mediaroom 2.0 users, like those who subscribe to AT&T U-Verse. It hasn’t even been a full year since Xbox 360 owners were first able to launch a U-Verse blade to watch TV, but it has been about nine months when we first heard rumors of Mediaroom clients for Windows Media Center (aka Monaco), Silverlight (aka Taos) and Windows Phone (aka Rome) would see the light of day. A recent post on William Zhang’s blog, a Microsoft employee, confirms the rumored code names in addition to giving us reason to believe those using Mediaroom 2.0 software might still realize the three screen dream by the end of 2011 after all.

Jaybird’s been pretty quiet about its latest Bluetooth offering. In fact, the company actually sneaked a few of its JF3 Freedom sports headphones into some stores back in April, but they quickly ran out of stock — we imagine it was either a test run or the product needed some tweaking. Regardless, we’ve just been informed that the JF3 will finally be available to all starting next week, with Jaybird’s online store currently taking pre-orders for a pop (including free delivery), followed by wider availability at retail stores in late July. What’s more, these sweat-proof stereo buds are now enhanced with new blade-like silicon ear cushions — head past the break to watch Jaybird founder Judd Armstrong ecstatically shake his head to show off the secure fit.

In the old days its was a different time and buying spare parts was most straight forward as there would common times be a blossoming market in spare parts from second hand vehicles. These days the majority of the components are aggregated or locked away within sophisticated electronics, trying to adjust with these will undoubtedly invalidate your warranty. Fortunately you can still buy and fix your own brand of wiper blades fairly quickly. Another asset of owning a motor car in the days of yore is that most of the parts were generically made for any vehicle, these times we live in the epoch of specialisation or over specialisation as some might claim. You will commonly have to go directly to the cars manufacturer to obtain the necessary spare parts fortunately for things like wiper blades you can still buy a generic model which will fit most cars. This arrangement where all equipment were compatible with most types of car gave the drivers of the past a much more easy life with a huge amount of options when maintaining their own cars. The people responsible in the car parts industry must have been living in an age of plenty never to be seen again as now car part distributors must stock an huge range of individual components for each car rather than simply having one generic brand, like they do with wiper blade.

Things like spark plugs and starter motors would be compatible with an enormous range of automobiles, not so these days, there were even things like wipers being entirely identical across the whole range of cars. These days the acute consumer has an enormous range of wipers from which to make their selection also the competition between the various competing companies has driven value down to an all time low. Contemporary manufacturing technology has specialised on accommodating individualised components to each type of car, this will produce a more unique appearence to each car as things like instruments, wipers and dials have an individual look and feel to them. This is stark contrast to the seventies and eighties for example when a lot of cars shared these identical components across different makes of motor car, there is even an argument for specialising the engine parts in order to promote greater efficiency especially in this time of climate change. There are however many parts which would actually benefit from becoming standardised through the different models, the reason most car companies follow the route of specialisation is probably more ulterior, it is an great method by which to trap customers into buying only the companies branded parts. Also unlike in the windscreen wipers market where thriving competition keeps the prices low the company can charge as much as they want as essentially the people do not have a choice.

Things like the new flat replacement wiper blades and the even newer silicone replacement wiper blades are both excellent examples of what innovation from competition can produce and what’s even better is that the price is very competitive. Some people still make the mistake of buying their replacement wiper blades from a registered franchised dealer and paying a huge mark up, now is the time to buy your replacement wiper blades online for the primary prices possible.

Just purchased some new performance Silicone Wiper Blades and don’t know how to fit them? Not to worry, exchanging Wiper Blades isn’t too complex and should only take around 5mins once you know what to do. The first thing you should know is when to actually change them, it’s necessary that your Windscreen Wipers are ready for the rainy season but avoid changing them just before the summer as the hot sun can sometimes distort the rubber of the blades. As a general rule, Wiper Blades should be exchanged every year at least, but should also be checked every 6 months to ensure they are still working as normal. If the wipers are squeaking or rubbing against the windshield it doesn’t necessarily indicate they need replacing, usually just cleaning the windscreen can help (without wax, as this can make the blades too slippery) and also ensure the Wiper Blades aren’t fastened too tight creating unnecessary friction.

Now that all of the requirements are out of the way, it’s time to get onto the practical work. To start, you will need to carefully raise the Windscreen Wipers so that they stand up and are clear of the windscreen. On most vehicles this only requires you to simply lift the blade outwards, if you are finding it tricky, you can turn the ignition on, activate the wipers and then switch the ignition off, this will leave the wipers standing vertical and you may find it simpler to lift them.
Next you will want to look at the size of the Wiper Blades as some vehicles have one shorter than the other and will need to be fit the right way around. Now we need to take off the current Wiper Blades and this is normally done by pushing in a small tab before sliding the blade out. Sometimes you may need to lift a tab up or even remove a screw with a screwdriver. Once both blades have been removed, the new Wiper Blades will simply slide into the wiper arm and click into place, don’t forget to ensure the fitting is solid and if any screws were removed that they be put back.

With the new Wiper Blades connected it’s time to check to ensure they work. You will need to gently drop the Windscreen Wipers so that they lie flat on the windscreen again and once more give them a slight tug to make sure they are secure and won’t come flying off as you drive away. With the wipers back in place, start the ignition and give them a go.

So there we have it, those new Silicone Wiper Blades you just got needn’t have to just sit in their box anymore, get out there and get them fitted!

If you’re still relying on the kit lens that came with your DSLR I’m not going to say this is the perfect first lens for you, but if you’ve got the cash, or a reasonably priced rental house nearby, I guarantee you’ll have an enjoyable afternoon playing with Nikon’s new AF-S Nikkor 200-400mm ƒ4G ED VR II telephoto zoom lens. By ‘new’ I of course mean the lens is the successor to Nikon’s AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G IF-ED lens, but the inclusion of Nikon’s VR II image stabilization system now allows handheld shooting at up to “4 shutter speeds slower” with sharper results. In addition to a host of other improvements.

You also get a maximum aperture of ƒ4 across the board, the ability to manually focus on objects as close as 6.4 feet away and a new rounded 9-blade diaphragm which more naturally renders out-of-focus areas. And of course a price tag that’s just a nickel shy of $7,000.
