Why Do My Gums Bleed When I Brush My Teeth?

Posted by on Saturday, 29 August, 2009

Why do my gums bleed when I brush my teeth? This is a question that needs answered. It is also a vary common question among people of varying ages, genders, lifestyles, et cetera. Likely, every single one of us have seen traces of pink when we brush our teeth. You should not try to pass this off as something minor. Your oral health depends on taking this problem seriously. Ozone generators can often prove to be helpful by creating an oxygenated mouthwash that might just kill the germs that cause gum disease and even bad breath.

Many things can cause your gums to bleed when you brush your teeth. Sometimes, it can be blamed on sensitive gums. You may be brushing your teeth too hard. The bristles on your tooth brush might be too rough or too firm. You may even spend too much time brushing your teeth. Any of these might be the cause of bleeding gums. No matter what, though, you should talk to your dental professional to see if any of these causes are the case.

This is vital, because gingival bleeding can be a sign of periodontal disease, otherwise known more simply as gum disease. In general, gingivitis may be the underlying cause behind bleeding gums. The good news is that it is possible to reverse the effects of gingivitis.

One of the devices that might be useful for fighting this type of problem is a ozone generator.Such devices can create oxygenated water that can be used as a mouthwash.

However, if gingivitis is left untreated, it can lead to more serious forms of dental disease. For instance, it could turn into periodontitis. That can make your teeth start to get a bit loose and they can eventually even start to fall out.

A good
oral irrigator is another useful tool, they provide much benefit, but in a different way than the ozone generators mentioned previously.

Other, even more serious problems can cause your gums to bleed when you brush. It might be a sign of a blood disorder, even cancer based disorders like leukemia. Clotting problems may be the underlying issue as well.

On a less serious note, sometimes people are sensitive or even allergic to things like aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and things of that nature. These supplements and OTC medications can sometimes act as blood thinners, which could explain the problem. You will never know unless you talk to your dentist though.

Eraser with built-in brush for eraser bits – absolutely brilliant

eraser-brush
How many times do you think you’ve used a pencil eraser and then brushed off the little rubber bits with your pinky? A million times? — a billion? Well, no more! This eraser brush device, while coming about fifty or sixty years too late, will certainly be useful for those of you still using pencils. What’s that? I’m getting reports that no one uses pencils any more, anywhere. That can’t be right.

I kid, I kid. Here in tech world you don’t see a lot of pencils around, but they’re still indispensable in art. Even if as a penciler you end up with stuff like this. I’d say Rob Liefeld could have used a little more eraser in his life.

Anyway, you’ve got yourself a nice professional eraser on one end, and a beautiful head of bristles on the other — what else could you need? It’s even tastefully designed. I want one just to keep in a drawer. Costs 7GBP, or a little over $10, which I think is reasonable.

WALL-E Clean And Go M-O Deluxe Action Figure (Image courtesy Amazon)
By Andrew Liszewski

He may not be the poster bot for the film, but M-O, aka Micro Obliterator’s quiet antics in WALL-E made him instantly likable. And not only did he do a good job at keeping the Axiom clean, but even with just a set of glowing eyes he had loads more personality than the most advanced Roomba. So for that reason alone this M-O deluxe action figure would make a great addition to any desk. But what’s with the deluxe you might ask? Well it turns out M-O actually has a set of duel bristles on the front allowing him to sweep up any dust or crumbs you roll him over, which are collected in an easy to empty waste bin on his back. Let’s see an Eve figure do that! $21.99 from Amazon.
