CyanogenMod for TouchPad alpha released, is surprisingly functional (video)

Posted by on Thursday, 13 October, 2011

Tired of seeing TouchPad Android demos that you can’t quite get your hands on? Buck up buttercup, CyanogenMod 7.1.0′s unique flavor of Gingerbread has finally made its way to HP’s disowned slate; but beware — they’re calling this one the “lower your expectations” edition for a reason. A new video and forum update belabors the point that the alpha is an early, buggy build that is not intended for the general public. However, if you’re brave enough to install CyanogenMod anyway, you’ll wind up with a neat assortment of usable features, including multiboot support, ten-point multitouch, functional WiFi, camera support for video chat, limited GPU acceleration and a ton of other features that are either working now, or are near completion. The team says there are too many nonfunctional features to properly list at the moment, but advise brave testers to expect app incompatibility and poorly optimized power consumption. Ready to throw caution to the wind? Hit the source link below, as it’s chock full of cautionary tales, installation instructions, and download links.

How To Choose A Golf Cart For The Home

Posted by on Saturday, 14 May, 2011

One wonderful auto that we all know and love is the golfing car. These autos come in all sorts of models, brands, and a wide variety of sizes. You can find them in gas powered models and electric models and they can be enclosed or open. In addition to this, you can buy them with a wide variety of special options or you can go with a stock model.

Does the thought of purchasing a golfing cart for your house get you jazzed up? Folks looking to buy their first golfing auto tend to have some questions that need to be answered. Luckily, this article will do just that. In this article, I’ll give answers to some of the basic questions that prospective golf cart owners usually ask.

Firstly, you’ll want to decide what energy source you will use to make your golfing buggy move. As I said earlier, you can choose between an electric model and a gas model. In the past, electric models were not as powerful as the gas models and were frowned upon. Luckily, the technology used in creating electrically powered autos has advanced and you’ll get just as much power from an electric golf cart as you would from a gas powered golf cart. You’ll discover that the only real factor is in the power you need to buy to fuel up the vehicle.

The other main difference is the price. A good gas golfing buggy will not be as pricey as a good electrically powered golfing cart. Fortunately, electric golf cart owners can get large tax breaks for buying their new cart. Another difference is that electric carts can be charged up using solar panels. I tend to favor electrically powered golfing carts over gas powered ones, but I enjoy them both.

Once you have picked out a way to power your golfing cart, you’ll need to think about what size would best suit you. Are you going to have to drive folks around in your cart? When you are just searching to move yourself and maybe one friend around, you won’t need a very large cart to get around in. You’ll still be able to get some gear into the back of it, but you won’t be able to carry around more than one person.

Once you’ve decided on all of these options, you can move onto picking out accessories for your cart. This should be almost as fun as actually getting and using the cart. Golf carts come with a wide range of accessory options. You can pick from radios, air conditioners, heaters, horns, gps systems, and almost anything else you can think of. Just keep in mind that these items will drain your fuel quicker so only pick ones you really want.

GOP’s ‘America Speaking Out’ Tries (Fails?) to Bring Online Voting to Public Policy

America Speaking Out

The Republican effort to allow its rank and file members to craft the party’s platform has officially launched in the form of America Speaking Out, built on top of Microsoft’s Town Hall platform. Users can sign up directly with America Speaking Out or use Facebook Connect to log on. Once a member, you’re only a few mouse clicks away from wielding influence over what issues and policies will form the foundation of the 2010 Republican party platform — at least, theoretically.

Users are supposed to submit, vote for or against, and critique ideas. Unfortunately, the site is so slow and buggy it is completely unusable. We’re not sure whether the GOP’s IT department or Microsoft itself is at fault here, but few of the features work as advertised. Voting took several clicks to register, if it did at all. Page load times ranged from 20 to 30 seconds (even though they contained only a handful of submissions, and even fewer comments). Often, the site froze for several seconds at a time.

gadget @ TTS -Ep56- Corinex GameNET – Ethernet over Power

Posted by on Thursday, 6 May, 2010

www.TheTechStop.net PowerLine Ethernet adapters don’t have the best reputation in the industry. With so many bargain-basement brands flooding the market, it’s easy to buy a set that is buggy, slow and almost impossible to configure. PowerLine adapters SHOULD deliver speed, stability and ease-of-use most often what they bring is frustration and disappointment. That was… until Corinex gave us a low-cost, high-speed, super-reliable Powerline to Ethernet adapter set that can be setup within seconds… The Corinex GameNET is a set of their vaunted AV200 Powerline adapters. Corinex has long been a big player in the world of data-over-power and now they bring their enterprise-class experience to the home and small office. If you’ve ever needed to get network access to an out-of-reach place where wireless is useless and running cables unfeasible, the GameNET might be for you. www.TheTechStop.net
