Microsoft launches SkyDrive app for Windows Phone and iPhone, forms No Androids Club

SkyDrive App

Microsoft’s love affair with iOS isn’t over yet. Hot on the heels of an iPad-supporting OneNote update and the App Store debut of Kinectimals, comes an official SkyDrive app for the iPhone. Of course, the Redmond crew isn’t leaving its own handsets out in the cold. Windows Phone 7 is also getting an app to compliment its already rather deep integration with cloud storage service. Both apps sport, more or less, the same feature set: the ability to browse all of your files, share them with others, delete them and create new folders. When sharing links you can even choose whether or not a person can edit a document or simply view it. At least for now it appears that Android users who also happen to be SkyDrive fans will have to make do with the mobile web site. To see both the iPhone and WP7 versions of the app in action head on after the break.

Maschine Mikro review

Posted by on Thursday, 8 December, 2011

Native Instruments’ Maschine hardware/software bundle has become a staple in the beat-production market since its debut two years ago. Now at version 1.7, its performative and production capacities have grown to the point where dance pioneers like Underworld rely on it as a standard instrument much the way an electric guitar might be used by a rock band. Maschine Mikro is the first major hardware shift for the production platform: the newly-downsized controller easily fits into a backpack and comes in at 0 less than its bigger brother. What compromises come with the smaller footprint, and what will the price tag mean for people just getting starting in the groove production game? Read on, Lil’ Dre, for our macro view of the Mikro.

ASUS announces Ivy Bridge PCI-Express motherboards, for early early-adopters

Posted by on Thursday, 29 September, 2011
If you get your jollies from things like procuring motherboards months before compatible chips are released, then boy have we some good news for you! ASUS is releasing three PCI-Express 3.0 enabled motherboards that are capable of handling Intel’s souped-up Ivy Bridge chips when they debut next year. The company isn’t in the business of giving its boards romantic names, so the three Z68-powered arrivals will be called P8Z68-Deluxe/GEN3, P8Z68-V Pro/GEN3 and P8Z68-V/GEN3. The whole lot will get two PCI-Express 3.0 slots, LucidLogix Vertu graphics-switching and USB 3.0. They’ll be available from October — the Deluxe model will peel €230 (0) from the rear of your pocket, while the V-pro commands a more modest €185 (0) and the V an even lower €160 (0). After the break, we’ve got a shot of the German spec list that those nice folks at TechConnect managed to snaffle. Go on, geek out — we won’t tell.

[Thanks, Alexandre]

Samsung moves ten million Galaxy S II smartphones, pats itself on the back

Posted by on Sunday, 25 September, 2011
Galaxy S II

Since its debut in April, Samsung claims to have moved 10 million Galaxy S IIs — not quite iPhone numbers (which sold 20 million units in Q2 alone), but still quite impressive. It’s especially noteworthy since, at the end of July, only five million had passed into customers’ hands. In just eight weeks the number of Galaxy S IIs sold has doubled, and Sammy’s flagship device has yet to even make a dent here in the US. At this rate the S II is set to far eclipse its ubiquitous predecessor’s sales figures, which took over seven months to hit the same milestone. Check out the self-congratulatory PR after the break.

Toshiba rumored to be announcing ultra-thin tablet at IFA after chunky Thrive did anything but

Posted by on Monday, 29 August, 2011

With a tablet market dominated by the svelte iPad 2, a device with a “chunky design” isn’t bound to Thrive. According to Notebook Italia, Toshiba’s expected to announce a new ultra-thin tablet at IFA this week, swapping full-size USB and HDMI ports for micro-USB, micro HDMI, and microSD slots in order to shave off a few millimeters from last year’s model, leaving the new device with a sleeker, much more appealing design. The rumored slate is expected to ship with a TI OMAP4460 dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an edge-to-edge screen, and a brushed-metal housing. Other specs, including Android version and screen size are a bit thin at this point, but we should have only a few more days to wait before Toshiba’s new tab makes its glorious IFA debut in Berlin.
