The Nintendo DS brood hasn’t been lacking in great, in-depth RPGs over the past 12 months or so. Certainly, the market appears to be increasing as the hand-held console persists to have its boundaries pushed further and further. One latest offering from developers Platinum Games is Infinite Space, which has a deepness that has left critics and fans highly impressed.
Infinite Space is an RPG which centres around space journeying, as you take command of hero Nia. Your mission is to ferry civilians from planet to planet, however you get trapped in greater problems as the game unfolds. The game features a surprisingly in-depth craft customization mechanic, which allows gamers to tailor their craft precisely how they need it, selecting from a whole bunch of different alternatives.
The customization of your craft, together with your crew, can have a direct impact in your battles, which are split into two parts. Firstly, the spacecraft themselves will battle in gauge-based real time combat. Your gauge can be enhanced as you continue to customise your craft. Secondly, Infinite Space features internal battles as your landing crew storm enemy craft.
Whilst the visuals and sound are good enough on this game, it really is the vastness of both the customization and the space backdrop itself which has brought this game such fame. Whilst some have noted it demands a steep learning curve, this just adds to the lasting appeal of this awesome little game. If you’re a fan of ships, space and RPGs, Infinite Space mixes all these features into one brilliant game.
