Don’t expect data migration to be something easy: it is not at all. There are many elements to consider when doing such procedure. It will be necessary to plan ahead. You will need time too. That is why it is always advisable to take the help of experts in this regard and hire a good data migration service for the purpose. There are lots of such services over the Internet. They will claim to do the data migration in an easy way, quickly, and without too much hassles. Look here Laplink PCmover Review to get a great PCMover Coupon.

You have to be cautious the moment you will look for such service. You cannot zero in on just anyone that comes your way. Many elements have to be considered before choosing the best migration service. This page Data Migration Software has tons of infos about Data Migration Software.

The first thing that you have to take into account is whether the concerned data migration service keeps your business running even during the period of migration. This point is very important. Your business has to be running and you cannot wait for such data migration to be over. So such service should duplicate your data center for the time of the data migration. This way your business will keep running.

The second thing to consider is the quality of service they provide. All is relative to the engineering experts who will do such data migration job. You have to double check they are competent enough. So the whole task will be done smoothly and without problems. Qualified and skilled professionals have the ability of anticipating possible problems that can crop up during this phase and have easy solution methods up their sleeves to tackle those issues.

Before making a choice, you have to read all the testimonials of previous end-users of a given service. So you will have a good idea about the weaknesses and strengths of such service.

Moreover, there are some services which offer certain additional benefits at minimum cost. As an example, you might need to extract data from your main back office. Even if the migration process is already completed, certain services offer off the shelf facility with the help of which you can do the needful at a much lesser cost.

More and more models of computers hardware and various components are becoming available all the time and many people will find it great to swap their old PC for a new one. But a thing that many PC users don’t like and will refrain them from buying a new PC is the fact they will have to copy all those old files (and settings) to the new PC. It is rather a boring task since you have to transfer all your files (and folders), your user preferences and programs to the new PC. If done manually, this process could take days, which would be painful for any computer user.

A very easy solution that you can use (when you want to copy files from the old to the new computer) is an application that will copy those files for you. A known program for that is PCMover, from Laplink. You can use such program with any type of computer with a Windows based computer system. You can also switch between various OS too. This application will create backup file image files. Those files can be moved between many PCs using CD/DVD or even a USB flash drive. You will find out that your files are transferred fast and easily. Moving files, settings, applications, and more, to a new PC is not always an easy thing to do. Learn more about Copy Files From Old Computer To New Computer here.

The above named program costs some money but is very easy to use. It is also the only program out there that can actually transfer over your programs onto another computer. In case you don’t want to move over any programs, or you have few data to transfer, then there is a free program you can use that is called Easy Transfer Wizard, from Microsoft. This is a simple enough program that transfers over user files, personal settings and general things like pictures and documents. The easy solution would have been to just do the research, crunch the numbers, and get an answer. This clever YouTube jockey decided to do it the hard way: he built his own centrifuge out of an Erector set (called Meccano in the the rest of the world). He even used an Android phone to calculate the amount of G force created by the machine. Plus, he used science!

This article describes simple steps that anyone can follow to rapidly speed up their computer. Step 1 or Step 2 in this article can generally be implemented within 15 minutes with a PC or a Mac.

Step 1 - Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. The registry is similar to the nervous system of the computer and its function is to connect software hardware and computer files. Errors often lead to the corruption of the registry, and reduce the computer speed . A simple step is to locate then repair the errors in the registry. Despite the fact that it is possible to repair the registry manually in theory, this method is not recommended. The main reason for this, is that it requires strong knowledge of the structure of the registry as well as its functions. Registry fix software are a faster, more reliable alternative to correct errors, remove unused files, any incorrect links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on compare registry fix software for more information.

Step 2 – Delete and block adware and spyware

Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. This happens particularly often, when peer to peer networks are being used to download music and videos for example. An easy solution to improve the response time of any computer is to run an anti spyware or adware program which will scan, remove then block adware and spyware. It helps to test the relevant anti spyware or adware program by downloading a trial version as most of them are free. The main features to consider are Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service, and the overall effectiveness of the software. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Click on best adware spyware removal for more information.

Step 3 – Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. Computer viruses often damage files, can consume excessive amount of memory and take a large amount of space on the hard disk. By running the latest version of the best anti-virus programs, users should overcome these problems and be in a better position to improve their computer performance.

Step 4 – Simple housekeeping tasks

There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed. Another tip is to stop programs launching automatically, as this will also improve the speed of the computer. These straightforward tasks generally deliver marginal improvements.

Step 5 – Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. This freed up space is an important factor of computer speed as it is used by temporary files which software require to work effectively. This is also used for swapping files when the operating system needs to use virtual memory as it runs out of RAM. In that event, unless sufficient space is free on the hard disk, the system slows down significantly. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows , can also help check for errors on the hard disk itself. For instance the hard disk may be too fragmented and some of its sectors may be damaged, and this can create problems even if the hard drive is large enough. Running a defragmentation program is another step that can be completed to improve the speed of any computer.

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This adversely impacts the RAM available for other programs. Computers frequently run out of RAM after a while. In order to overcome this, ugrading the RAM is probably necessary. Another free option is to avoid using some computer programs simultaneously.

Step 7 – Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. The best solution is often to replace the fan, this overcomes the problem by increasing the air flow through the computer thereby reducing its temperature and ultimately improving reponse times.

Jill Schlesinger of CBS' MoneyWatch joins the show to talk about the economy. So it turns out that things aren't going to collapse, and we're not going to have to sell our bodies in a barter system. That doesn't mean, however, that we're out of the woods, and Jill is here to show us the way out. Throw in a little bit of health care, a little bit of Social Security, and a garlic smell? Only on The 404!

(Credit: Jill Schlesinger/CBS)

For the last couple of months, stocks have been soaring more than 50 percent since their March low. Jill says all that means is that the market doesn't think we're headed for Great Depression 2.0, but that doesn't mean we're out of trouble. In the dark, we imagine what V-, U-, and W- recoveries would look like. Strange... Justin, is that your hand on my leg?

Further down the line, we jump into the health care debate. Jill tells us her generation is screwing our generation and not in a good way. Essentially, they took all the good health care, and we (the 20-somethings) will just not be able to afford the premium "best health care" in the world, when we really need it. And somehow, Wilson reveals some of his Republican leanings? Say what?

Finally, we get into personal savings for the future, and we pick up the ashes of our 401(k)s. So while your parents may have lost a bundle on their retirement funds, we 20-somethings still have another 40 years before we really have to worry about our returns. Meanwhile, Social Security is a toss-up. Jill wants to advise President "Barry" Obama that the easy solution to fixing the "Third Rail" of American politics is just tying benefits to an age index. People are just living too long...death panels, any one?

Wow! So we hope you finally learned something on The 404. We sure did! Send in your feedback to the usual at the404 [at] cnet [dot] com. Follow Jill on Twitter. Or leave us a voice mail at 1-866-404-CNET, and you can debate us on the finer points of the liquidity of the money supply and U6 unemployment figures.

I don’t envy the PR people who have to write press releases. They can never just call a spade a spade.

Case in point, Sony’s new S Series Walkman. Its main feature is built-in speakers. But instead of just saying it has built-in speakers, it’s instead a “unique user experience” that adds “a new social element to the world of digital music and video.”

But in the interest of the whole spade thing, here’s what else you get for $110 (8GB) or $130 (16GB):

2.4-inch screen

30 frames-per-second video playback

42 hours of audio, 6.5 hours of video through headphones

17 hours of audio, 5 hours of video through the new, unique, and revolutionary socially elemental speakers

Voice recording, FM recording

Codec support: MP3, WMA, AAC, PCM, AVC, MPEG-4, WMV, JPEG

Before Hulu and the online copyright crackdown, YouTube was the place to go for finding TV content on the Internet. Now, it's trying to be the place for Internet video content on your TV. YouTube has made the jump to living room screens through different methods, including as a widget for Samsung TVs running Yahoo's TV widgets. The YouTube widget is an easy solution to getting YouTube on your TV without the need for additional wires or devices, but it finds itself somewhere between a compact widget and a full-screen program, unable to compete with a number of other TV-based YouTube platforms.

We spent some time with the YouTube widget as part of our updated look at the Yahoo TV Widgets platform. The "snippet," or collapsed form of the widget as it appears on the dock at the bottom of the screen, only serves to launch the program--unlike the Yahoo Video widget, for example, which allows users to scroll through the snippet for favorite video categories. When expanded, the main window provides quick access to a number of familiar features, including links to all sorts of top video categories, channels and the search feature. Selecting any of these options (except Channels, which opens an additional but currently nonfunctional submenu) wipes the screen of whatever you were watching and loads a full-screen YouTube client that bears a resemblance to the Web site, only cast in black.

Call it semantics, but there's something about completely taking over the screen that isn't very widgety. Having a full-screen YouTube program is by no means a bad thing, but it does mean that the Yahoo widget has to hold its own against some strong competition.

When expanded, the main window provides quick access to a number of familiar features, including links to all sorts of top video categories, channels and the search feature.

Optimising the performance of any computer is easier than many users think. This article provides simple steps to speed up any computer quickly. PC or Mac users should be able to implement either of the first two steps in this article in less than 15 minutes.

Step 1 - Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. One of the main functions of the registry is to connect software, hardware and computer files. For this reason the registry is often referred to as the computer’s nervous system. Typically the computer registry becomes more prone to errors over time, is frequently corrupted, and this slows down the computer. A straightforward step is to locate any errors in the registry then repair them. Despite the fact that it is possible to repair the registry manually in theory, this method is not recommended. The main reason for this, is that it requires strong knowledge of the structure of the registry as well as its functions. Registry repair software are usually fast and reliable and offer overall, a better alternative to correct errors, delete unused files, poor links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on fix computer registry for more information.

Most anti spyware or adware software have a free trial version and it is worth using this first to try out the program. The overall effectiveness of the software is obviously the main feature to consider, however other features are also important such as Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Click on best adware spyware removal for more information.

Step 3 – Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. Computer viruses must be deleted for two reasons, firstly they often damage files, secondly they tend to waste memory and disk space. Running the latest version of some of the leading anti-virus software should overcome these problems and users who do so will be in a stronger position to improve the performance of their computer.

Step 4 – Simple housekeeping tasks

There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed. Stopping programs launching automatically is also useful to speed up any computer and is usually very straightforward. These simple tasks generally produce marginal improvements.

Step 5 – Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. This freed up space is an important factor of computer speed as it is used by temporary files which software require to work effectively. This also enables the operating system to swap files using the hard disk as it runs out of RAM. In that event, users can experience a reduction in speed, if too little space is available on the hard disk. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows help scan for errors on the hard disk itself. For instance, your hard disk may be large enough but too fragmented and some disk sectors may have been damaged. Defragmenting the hard disk is another action, which will improve the response time of any computer.

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This reduces the amount of memory available for other programs. Running out of RAM too fast is not uncommon and users who have this problem should consider upgrading the memory on their computer. Alternatively running certain programs simultaneously should also be avoided, this option is of course free.

Step 7 – Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. To overcome this problem, installing a new fan is the best solution which will reduce the computer’s temperature by increasing the airflow and ultimately improve response time.
