Discover cardholders can send money to anyone with a cell phone, email address

Posted by on Saturday, 16 April, 2011

With NFC payment systems just starting to roll out in the US, it’ll be awhile yet before you can cut up those credit cards for good. But in the present, at least, you can use your handset to make sure you don’t get stuck with a 0 bar tab… again. Discover just announced that it will let its cardholders send money to people in 60 countries — so long as they have either a cell phone number or email address. As AllThingsD notes, Visa and American Express have hatched similar plans, though Discover is the first of the bunch to partner with PayPal. While people sending money don’t need PayPal accounts, people receiving moola do — or, at least, they must be willing to create one. For senders the service is free and, in fact, they get 0.25 percent cash back for the first ,000 exchanged. As for Discover, a smaller player than Visa and MasterCard, it hopes some of PayPal’s 230 million customers will sign up for a shiny new credit card while they’re at it.

Peek Email Device review

Posted by on Sunday, 18 July, 2010

I bet most of my subscribers would be considered “tech-savvy,” so the Peek probably isn’t what most of you are looking for in a gadget, but since I got it for such a dirt-cheap price, why not review it? (I accidentally showed my email address in this video. As the annotation says, please respect my privacy and if you want to talk to me, just leave me a comment here.) Why can’t I choose Iran as a country on the iGoogle weather gadget?

Posted by on Tuesday, 6 July, 2010

Question by julian0659: Why can’t I choose Iran as a country on the iGoogle weather gadget?
Iran is no longer in the list of countries available on the iGoogle weather gadget. I can still see the weather in another instance of the same gadget that i’d set up previously (under a different email address ) so the weather servers would seem to be working.
I can get the weather for Tehran by entering an address directly: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=ig&q=weather+Tehran,+Iran, then “add to iGoogle”. Has Iran been removed from the country list as a misguided interpretation of US sanctions?

Those satellites are probably confidential.
That, or their satellite blocks it.

Google Gadgets Primer 101 – Learn the Basics of Using Google Gadgets

Posted by on Friday, 21 May, 2010

It is very easy to get started with Google gadgets. Follow the instructions here and you will easily be able to get customised content on your google page.

1. Sign up for a google account (it’s free and easy!).

You can use google dot com or your local google (such as the UK google).

Do you have a google account?

If so, please sign in and skip ahead to number 2.

If not you can sign up for a free account by clicking on the sign in link in the top right hand corner. This will take you to a page titled Personalize Your Homepage. On the right are two boxes. The top one is for signing in – but you are not a member yet. You need the lower box, which says, Not using Google Mail or other Google Account services? Click on Create an account now. You will have to enter your email address and a password. Make sure your password is secure as the system will not accept an insecure one. By this I mean, make sure you mix some letters and numbers into the password. You also have to tell your country, and type in some hard-to-read characters – this is to make sure that you are human and not a machine. Click on create my account.

Google will now send you an email, to make sure that your email address was correct. Check your emails and read the one from google. Click on the confirmation link in the email. You will be taken back to the google site which will tell you:

Email Address Verified

Thank you for verifying your Google account. Your account is now activated.

Well Done!

Now click on Click here to continue. You are now signed in and will see your email address at the top of the page. You’ve done the hard bit!

2. Start adding content

At last we can add the content and personalise your page! In the top left hand corner of the google page is a link saying Add content ». Click on this. You can now start clicking on any item and adding content. Just click on add it now underneath something that interests you and it will be added to your page!

Simple!

3. More personal content

Around the web you can find google modules that are useful. These have to be added by URL. To do this first find a google module that you want to use on the net – for example, there is an amazon search box located at http://www.concepttshirts.co.uk/googlegadgets/amazonussearch.xml

Using this as an example, copy the address above and go back to your main google page. In the top left hand corner of the google page is the link saying Add content ». Click on this as you did before. The page now has a google logo, a search box, a button marked Search homepage content and a smaller link to the right of the big button that says Add by URL. Click on this. You will now be prompted for a webaddress starting with http://

3. Paste the URL into the box.

Paste the URL into the box on the google page that starts with http:// .Make sure you don’t have two lots of http:// by mistake. Either delete the one in the box, or do not paste it in.

4. Almost there!

Click Add. Google will then start the process of making your personal homepage. It will ask you: You are about to add a feature that was not created by google… Just click on OK.

5. See it in action!

Now click on Back to homepage in the top left hand corner, and you will return to your google homepage, personalised for you!

6. More.

You can repeat this process as often as you want. Enjoy!

Google Desktop and Elert Gadget Marketing

Posted by on Wednesday, 19 May, 2010

If you haven’t heard of Google Desktop then the chances are you have not heard of the Google Elert Gadget or elert marketing. At the moment people are using techniques elert marketing to make a few thousand dollars a day. Sure, it’s good. But as it becomes more popular the market is going to explode…just like email did a decade ago.

Many a millionaire was made during the first internet bubble. Wildly over valued IPOs for companies that had no real business model, and in many cases no where near the revenue that was needed to build a company that should go public. However, what many people fail to realise is that many people survived the bubble. In fact, many people made their millions during the bubble. How did they do it? Simple. They did not rely on investment bankers, Silicon Valley’s VC crowd, or even intangible brand marketing income. They made cold hard cash from doing one of two things: selling products directly or building an audience and using that audience to sell other people’s products while they took a commission. Sure, some companies were crossed ethical boundaries – and, what are now considered legal ones – by sending SPAM. Other people complied with double-opt in procedure and they still didn’t have any problem making money. It was like a dream come true. Every time an email gets sent, a percentage of their list would covert, and they would make money. It was almost like their own cash machine – send an email to their list, and they were sure to make some money out of it. As long as they did not get greedy, and send too many emails to their list, everyone is happy. But then the market became crowded. Too much money was in the space, so people were scaling their operations and people were flooding in. Why wouldn’t you when you realise you can make hundreds of dollars from just getting an email address? There are stories of people making hundreds of millions without a single member of staff – only a server, a database of email addresses, and a computer in their bedroom. It was like a dream come true.

But then the landscape changed. Before people didn’t have to give you anything for an email address. Now consumers realise their value – in the time they spend wading through their SPAM. Now people can get as many free email addresses as they like, people are sending out thousands of emails per day, and the value per email address has shrunk to pathetic lows. Now people sell lists of 10,000 email addresses for under $30. This is proof they are worth next to nothing, People would rather make quick bucks off a list rather than retire to the Bahamas with a recurring income stream.

Now, the new wave of email marketing is here – and its called Elert Marketing. You can access someone’s Google Desktop within minutes, and be benefiting from the other income sources that will come as people access your pages which will then be published online. This may turn out to be like email marketing, but for now elert gadget marketing is going to be making a lot of people millionaires – and a lot of millionaires richer. Don’t be left behind when it comes to Google Elert Gadget – get your foot in the door and benefit from being one of the early players. Then once you have made your first million, you can then start to worry about its future.
