So far, the extent of Sony’s 2012 smartphone portfolio for the US extends only to the AT&T-bound Xperia Ion, with no word just yet whether the see-through banded Xperia S will arrive on American shores. What happens if it was called the Xperia Sola? That very name’s showed up at the US Patent and Trademark Office, although that’s largely it. So it could be a phone we’ve already seen, or perhaps one of those many road-mapped pseudonyms. Well, with a certain big mobile event just around the corner, we’re sure to get a few more answers on Sony’s other plans for the New World later this month.

Despite occupying a questionable space on the scale of must-have audio goods, Jawbone’s little Bluetooth speaker that could managed to win us over with its ample range. Now, that stylish peripheral is about to get shunted out of the spotlight, making way for a plus-sized sibling. As recent FCC documents have revealed, the company has a Big Jambox in the works which is, presumably, bigger than its diminutive kin. Aside from ports for micro-USB, audio-in and power, not much else could be gleaned from the filing. Given its larger-than-life moniker, however, we’d expect this new offering to be more of a standard dock than kitschy accessory.

There may be a number of options for budding iPad Scorseses, now you can add Avid’s “Studio” to that list. Conveniently launching at the same price as iMovie, Avid’s intention to woo Apple’s users is clear. Those five bucks get you a tidy storyboard solution, “precision” editing, the usual array of transitions and effects, plus multi-channel audio support (including access to your iTunes library). Video can be shot from the device itself, of course, and camera kit owners can import footage from your archives. The final results can then be rendered in either 480p, 540p and 720p or shared via the usual social options. Most importantly, projects can also be finished off in the desktop version — handy, if they start getting into Titanic territory. It’s available today, just focus your iPad at the app store (or the source link below).

Forrester has announced the results of its latest survey, which encompassed 10,000 enterprise computer users, across 17 countries. It looked at the degree of Apple product adoption in businesses and support for them within IT services. There’s plenty to chew on, but here’s the big one; over a fifth of those surveyed uses an Apple product for work. This, however, includes workers using their personal devices for work tasks, with 11 percent using their iPhone, 9 percent their iPad and 8 percent working on their Macs. Half of the enterprises included in Forrester’s survey plan to increase the number of Macs used by 52 percent, while nearly half of the firms are already issuing Apple PCs to employees, gaining even more traction within IT departments in the US and Western Europe. Unsurprisingly, given its premium pricing, those using Apple gear are more likely to be higher paid, while also (paradoxically) younger and in a senior rank. More specifically, 43 percent of those making over 0,000 a year use an iPhone, iPad or Mac. No cause or effect here, ladies and gents, but we’ll be putting in our expense claim for a new set of business iPads very soon.

Amidst the madness that was CES, Acer quietly snuck its Iconia Tab A510 onto the showroom floor, tucking the tablet into the folds of NVIDIA’s booth. While the company was more than willing to fess up to the slate’s specs — quad-core Tegra 3 processor, skinned Ice Cream Sandwich UX, 1280 x 800 display — little in the way of pricing and availability were revealed. If a report out of Germany is to be believed, however, Europeans (sorry, statesiders) might very well see the 10.1-incher hit retail as early as this April, with a €500 price tag in tow. That’s all the rumor mill’s wrought for now, folks, but we’ll keep you posted should the news go official at CeBIT 2012.
