Amidst the madness that was CES, Acer quietly snuck its Iconia Tab A510 onto the showroom floor, tucking the tablet into the folds of NVIDIA’s booth. While the company was more than willing to fess up to the slate’s specs — quad-core Tegra 3 processor, skinned Ice Cream Sandwich UX, 1280 x 800 display — little in the way of pricing and availability were revealed. If a report out of Germany is to be believed, however, Europeans (sorry, statesiders) might very well see the 10.1-incher hit retail as early as this April, with a €500 price tag in tow. That’s all the rumor mill’s wrought for now, folks, but we’ll keep you posted should the news go official at CeBIT 2012.

To advanced aliens and Europeans, ViaSat-1 is no big deal. To Americans and Canadians, however, it’s their ticket to more affordable satellite broadband coverage at speeds of up to 10Mbps, as well better in-flight connectivity. The satellite’s plasma thrusters have moved it into geosynchronous orbit and its payload has been switched on, so the initial service is on track to begin by Christmas time, with further services in 2012. Want to know more about the tech involved in such extraterrestrial feats? Then look for the detailed PR after the break.

Europeans have all the fun: lower drinking ages, funner beaches, easier lifestyles and… dinosaur skeletons having sex in their museums. This exhibit, which clearly shows two T-Rexes “mating”, is located in the Jurassic Museum of Asturias in Spain. More »

Is ViewSonic about to surprise the UK and Netherlands with a new ViewPad? We haven’t heard a single peep about the new tablet until the advert you can see above mysteriously leaked, at which point Viewsonic confirmed to Tablet Test that the device not only exists, but will be coming out “soon.” The ViewPad 10e gets a 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768 IPS display (that’s the same size and resolution as the TouchPad and iPad 2′s display), a 1.3 megapixel camera and it’s only 9mm (0.35 inches) thick. We don’t know much about what’s on the inside, except to say it’ll be running Gingerbread solo, rather than the “dual OS” setup of the ViewPad 10pro. There’s nary a release date to be found, but we do know that when it arrives, it’ll set Europeans back to the tune of €250 (about 0).

[Thanks, Andreas]

We’re a land of vehicle enthusiasts. It’s definitely indicated by the sheer number of vehicles on the streets nowadays. We like to drive and we appear to do so in ever-increasing numbers in spite of the awful expenses related to purchasing a litre of petrol currently. Whilst we might not use our vehicle for many “simple” excursions and journeys as some of our American pals, for example, most of us would not know what to do without our wheels.

At times, on the other hand, driving our vehicle to a specific destination may not be feasible or realistic. A case in point might be a long-distance move, if you’ve been instructed to relocate for work reasons, or if you simply want to relocate to another destination. As Europeans, we can reside and work in a range of distinct locations in the Union and so many people are opting to “head for the sun.” More and more people seem to be joining the ranks of the small business owner and when you have a home-based business may be awakening to the fact that you could really run your business from anywhere, as long as you have a digital connection. All of a sudden, transferring and even emigrating might seem worthwhile. Give some thought to auto shipping.

It is a great example of a period when we make use of our head rather than our hearts. We might really like driving and being an automobile enthusiast, yet understand that we should let other folks take the strain in this case and that’s what vehicle shipping businesses are for, after all.

Keep in mind that whenever you ship anything specific similar to this, delays may occur and the well known Murphy’s Law can come into effect. Give yourself a lot of flexibility with regards to the collection day and the delivery day, since it is simply very hard to supply the cast-iron warranty of certain times and dates, due to outside elements.

Shipping your own vehicle could be a part of the adventure, if you are prepared and ready for each scenario. The industry is quite well-founded, prepared and very competent and as long as you go for the appropriate insurance policy against stuff that can occur you may reach your destination with little to stress about.

It's too easy to pat Google on the back for taking such a firm stance against China. The two behemoths' fingers are twitching by their sides, ready to whip their pistols out. But what of the repercussions on the spectators?

It wasn't until January 2006 that Google.cn launched, with their Vice President of Global Communications and Public Affairs, Elliot Schrage, admitting that "figuring out how to deal with China has been a difficult exercise."

What was described as a "challenging, complex, promising market" was obvious to Google however. Expanding there was never something they could ignore. What company, dating back to when the Chinese and Europeans traded goods on the Silk Road, has not wanted to import or export from China? Google couldn't say no. They promised to "make a meaningful - though imperfect - contribution to the overall expansion of access to information in China."

Google now employs 700 or so people in China. That's a lot of job losses if they were to exit completely—though presumably not all of them work on just Google.cn. A lot of companies are reliant on Google, if you consider those who—like many companies in the western world—buy keywords for their products.

Reuters has reported today that 27 Chinese companies which have bought ads on the search engine have banded together and sent Google a letter asking for answers. They want their issues to be addressed, with the letter saying "we see business sliding, but there is nothing we can do...we are waiting now in incomparable pain and disquiet." These companies have invested in Google, put down pre-payments on keywords and if Google were to shut down its Chinese arm, potentially have drastic knock-on effects for a lot of people. Demands for job loss compensation, company compensation and even just a refund of their money is expected.

Not to mention how this could affect other partners, such as Samsung and Motorola, whose Android phone launches were delayed in China thanks to their association with Google.

Supposedly only one per cent of Google's revenues come from China, so while they won't be missing out on much, it's the users, businesses and partners that rely on Google which will be losing here. So much investment has gone into Google China; a lot of users placed their hopes in Google's hands that they could one day help them climb out of this tank of censorship—but threatening to pull out of the country altogether unless they bow down to the American giant isn't the way to do it.

I think it's time to take a step back and consider the fact that Google pulling out of China might not be the answer. Oh, their exit would be a great step forward in tackling censorship, giving Google's 35 per cent marketshare-worth of users another reason to be upset at China's constant internet lockdown. We've also already heard that Twitter wants to open the micro-blogging site up to the Chinese, with activist/artist Ai Weiwei being the main advocate for a launch in the country bound by strict freedom of speech issues.

The thing is, Google sacrificed any moral stance they could possibly adopt, when they entered China and set up business in 2005. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in favor of censorship and just can't imagine living with such heavy restrictions. But how are you going to enter a country, comply with their censorship, then turn around and complain about it five years later? I wish there was an easy way for both sides. Yet barracking Google on isn't the way to go about it. It's not for us, for Google, or for anyone to really tell China how to manage itself, how to govern its people and tell them they should be able to access all the information they want. I mean, we can tell China to quit its censorship practices, and we can do it online, because it's our right to do so in whatever country we live in, but how much use is it going to be, really?

Google knew what they were getting into when they made agreements with the Chinese government, they knew they couldn't take the country's censorship lightly, and just like how you and I respect countries' customs when we visit—by handing a Korean a business card with two hands, or standing on the right-side of the escalators in England—they knew they couldn't just waltz in and try and change the situation. True, when governments can see ill-goings in other countries they try and intervene, wars break out this way, but was it up to Google to break the Chinese people from their firewall manacles?

Eric Schmidt, Google's grown-up Chairman and CEO, has been quoted as saying Google is "99.9 per cent" sure they'll cease working with China. When their corporate mantra is "don't be evil," you've really got to wonder whether them compromising on their ideas of censorship and values are really as important as the problems which will arise in China for the Chinese and the companies that do business there Google does back out four years after traveling the Silk Road information superhighway.

Those wacky Europeans will be getting a God of War III PS3 bundle. It doesn't look any different than a standard-issue PS3.

Those wacky Europeans will be getting a God of War III PS3 bundle. It doesn’t look any different than a standard-issue PS3.

The bundle, which Amazon France lists as coming out on March 17, will run you €350, or around $493.

Not familiar with God of War? You play as Kratos, a big, hulking Greek gentlemen. You beat people and monsters up. The end.

In other bundle news, there will be a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker bundle. It will be much more “bundle-y” than the God of War III, with a camouflage shell and super-cool dog tags. The game comes out on March 18 in Japan.
