Working out your poker profit – The Formulas
The most profitable poker is that which generates the most money in the shortest time and lowest cost. You can use some simple calculations to work out the profitability of your poker.

Profit is basically the difference between your start-up bankroll and your end bankroll over the period of time in question, be it a day, week, month, year etc. So End bankroll minus Initial bankroll = Basic profit.

It’s also important to know what your salary is. For this divide the profit by the hours dedicated to play poker. So salary = Profit/Hours.

How to play for your profit
You can play two types of poker game. There are tournaments and ring games.

In order to make ring game poker profitable right away and never lose cash you’ll need a sponsor for the initial bankroll. Most cash poker sites will match a deposit but of course this means you need to put your personal money down too.

If you have some cash you are willing to risk then it might be worth the small risk, but if not then check out free poker sites to find one offering an initial play money bankroll. The better free poker sites offer options to cash your free money in for actual cash bankrolls on partner cash poker sites once you have won enough. Make sure the free site you join has this sort of deal in place with cash win poker sites and that the partner sites accept players from your country.

Tournaments are similar. Start free and build from there losing only money that is already profit.

First you start out with free poker freerolls. Free poker tournament sites offer many and as with ring games you can earn play money credits you can convert to real cash on cash poker online sites. As you get better and win more you step up entry cost and risk-reward levels and build your online poker income.

Critical – Keep your risk in line with your bankroll and winning consistency

Only step-up levels when you are certain your poker skill is good enough to win at the next level up on a regular basis. A straightforward formula you can use is to say once you’ve played 30 tournaments at $0.10 and have won at least $10 then you can step up to say $0.20.

And if of course you get a losing streak then you are losing money that is profit not your own money. Not fun but you get to keep going. Back down to the level below if you need to and keep going – “2 steps forward, one step back” is the name of the game. Your profit will not be a linear straight line and if you can accept that you will be able to keep going and progress steadily and absorb those corrections.

If you are new to online poker then learn first and play poker for free at one of the best free online poker sites. Here you can learn how to play poker absolutely free with no risk to your own money and start building a bankroll to cash in for real money when you are ready to go bigtime and play poker online to win money.

1. As anxiety has maximised due to an overload of hope on the river, run to the fridge freezer grab an ice pack and wrap this round your head. This will dissolve the anxiety around your head, but may make you cold.

2. When playing Online Poker on a laptop. If you become worried that your unmentionables are beginning to cook, ask your partner if they would kneel in front of you and gently blow between your thighs. They will also make a handy footrest.

Alternately wrap yourself up in Tin Foil to reflect the heat. This will also stop any evil aliens sending you messages.

3. In the unfortunate even of finger pain, you may wish to give this little piggy a rest. To kill two birds with one stone it would be an idea to rest your finger in an ice cream, which you can then eat afterwards.

4. A late night game or after a good few hours you may start to drift off and hear the land of nod calling. The best method of staying awake is to smash a six inch heavy duty nail into the wall directly behind you. You then need to wedge a few stacks of cards below the front of your front two chair legs to make the chair unsteady. You can now rest assured that if you do nod off you will fall back straight into the nail and probably never wake up again- now there’s an incentive!

5. If after a couple of days playing non stop you begin to experience back pains, repeatedly pinch both your cheeks, this will take the focus off you back, as well as give you a rosy glow.

1. Once prefrontal lobe pressure has built up due too an excess of wishing on the river, nip to the kitchen and grab the nearest tea cosy and place it on your head. This will disperse the pressure around your skull, as well as keep you warm.

A Cautionary Free Poker Online Guide to How NOT to succeed

Posted by on Friday, 12 March, 2010

One of our regular players has written to us with this story of why they feel many people fail when it comes to playing poker online and free poker online.

I used to love playing poker online and would do it at every given opportunity. My time spent playing has suffered lately due to other aspects going on in my life, such as family commitments and trying to set up my own business online. The online business hasn’t been working out very well and I think this is due to my lack of enthusiasm.

I am the first to admit that I can be a bit idle at times and I could put a lot more effort into certain parts of my life. I am aware that the more poker I play, I put more effort into it, so I have started playing again.

I stopped playing so much for multiple reasons.

1. The last great payout month I had, I played a lot and felt exhausted after.

2. The next month I played bad and lost and or broke even way too much.

3. I got pre-occupied in other activities.

4. The regular free poker site I used to play at ceased trading.

5. Since the poker habit was broken I quite often forgot to play.

6. I withdrew a lot of my winning after that winning month and then lost the next month so I had to drop down a level. When you drop down it is less interesting because you are winning and losing less money and you incorrectly assume all the players are bad and you play different as a result, meaning you lose more money.

7. I tried getting back into it on Full Tilt but I really feel the players are much better there and even after dropping down I was still only breaking even.

Add up all that and it resulted in me never playing poker. But I have started up playing again on free poker sites and have begun to enjoy it again. I have a goal for this month. I want to play 10000 hands by the end of the month and show a profit. I think I can do it, we will see.

Top Tips for Playing Free Poker.

Posted by on Friday, 19 February, 2010

I very much hope that these free poker tips help you in your poker. The tips do include some poker terms/lingo so if you are new to poker and are unsure then please look up a good poker glossary.

1. Single Table Poker Tournaments (STT’s) are a quicker game than Multi Table Tournaments (MTT’s) and you want to give yourself enough chips to bet properly during the middle stages.

2. You should reduce your starting hand requirements slightly from late position in case of no raises: in no limit poker the expected value of say, a small pocket pair, can be very high.

3. Hands that you can play (in case of no raises and lots of limpers in the pot) in late position include two suited face cards, and suited aces down to an eight. In this phase you are looking for a nuts or near nuts hand (nut flush, full house or straight) that you can afford to slow play and make a huge gain for a small initial stake.

4. Bluffing in the early stages of a STT is pretty useless, because blinds aren’t worth it, and if there are multiple callers, one of them will pay to see you.

5. Post flop you should be mega-tight and never jeopardize either your chips or your table image chasing the river|One big difference between a STT and an MTT is where one player amasses a huge chip lead in the early stages. In an MTT, you hate having them on your table. They steal the pots while people on other tables are playing hands. But in a STT a clear chip leader can be a positive factor. The bluffers are in big trouble, because whatever they throw in, big stack can afford to call. It is possible to play nice and tight and still keep up.

Summary
Play tight, do not bluff and remember your position at all times. Let the fish die off, without losing too many chips, but look for simple opportunities to gain. Create the impression you are a rock and you’ll do great over the long term. If you’re new to it all practice on the free poker sites first before moving up in line with your growing confidence and bankroll.

Free Online Poker Strategy to Aggressive Hugger Play

Posted by on Monday, 28 December, 2009

I’ve been playing no limit Texas Hold’em for roughly six years now and have gained a lot of knowledge of the game. I have managed to win quite a lot of money from playing both free online poker and also pay poker games. And, I have lost it all plenty of times by playing very aggressive poker. I am a pretty aggressive player most of the time so I have had some major upswings and some major downswings over the years..

Lately I have changed my poker play which have started to up my winnings. My new style of play is all about ‘aggressive hugger’, a style of play that I have named. Hopefully this article will explain my new ‘aggressive hugger’ strategy.

To win a poker tournament or game is to be conservative when playing. I believe this is the best way to play in most situations because there are a lot of players that don’t understand the game very well or aren’t very good players that you can easily win money from if you only play good cards.

When I talk about playing conservative I mean only calling a raise pre-flop with the top 10-15 starting hands. A better time to play a hand with the top 15-20 hands would be if there was no raise pre-flop at the time, otherwise you should mostly be playing the top 10-15 starting hands.

Winning consistently you shouldn’t really chase straight draws very often especially for medium to large bets. When you are playing low stakes or free online poker tournament games you shouldn’t be trying to steal the blinds even if you are the button, also known as the dealer position.

The reasoning for this is when you are playing a low stakes or play money game most of the time the players just call with anything decent or even very bad hands a lot of times. When you are playing for lows stakes or on free poker sites then winning a lot of times isn’t as important to the players as if they were playing for high stakes.

Poker is all about position. The position in poker is the place you are playing from. So, there is the dealer position, the big blind position and the first position after dealt cards. The position you are playing determines how you should play the hands you have. Conservative players tend to watch closely to positions and their poker play and what style of play they should adapt to their position.

Following the traditional, conservative strategies mentioned above explains the “hugger” part of my newly coined phrase. In the poker world, a “hugger” is referred to someone who plays very tight conservative poker. In order to bring in second word “aggressive”, I will explain how that is incorporated into my new found strategy.

Aggressive style of play usually entails large pre-flop raises with good cards and aggressive continuation bets. If an aggressive player has a rubbish hand, they will not let on that they are not in a strong position. An aggressive player usually believes and portrays that he/she has the best hand.

So the combined elements of a conservative or “hugger” and the aggressive style of play are combined to form the “hugger/ aggressive’ strategy. Observing a conservative style by playing premium hands in an aggressive manner is my new adopted strategy. While holding premium hole cards, I will then play them in an aggressive manner by raising large pre-flop bets in accordance with position techniques while utilizing aggressive betting strategies.

Give it a go, try being an aggressive hugger on free online poker sites and low stakes and as long as you’re an OK player I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well it works.
