There’s now free Wi-Fi at Barnes and Noble. The big bad book store chain just flipped the switch on the free service today, which is provided by AT&T.

In his book I Hate Your Guts, Jim Norton said he wished Starbucks would charge $300 per hour for Wi-Fi access, presumably to clear out the freeloaders who ruin his ability to order his beverage of choice.

I guess that’s it. Sorry to bother you.

You know what I mean by all of this. Sit and think about it for a moment: you sat on the cast up late one night, finding E! or a similar transmit, and speculative how it was that bands with such huge cult pursual have all appeared to vanish. (You were watching that objective on the Pleasurable Dead-weren’t you?)

Or maybe you’re in the boat with those who still do come some stripe or other-but we’ll talk approximately you in a minute. See, free mp3 downloads have converted the cult approaching to circles and how much souls succeed them.

Think about how expensive it is for bands to tour without a leading label and the entire weight of the music occupation auto free music downloads legging it the bill. Let’s think about how that ponders in everything else: how overpriced have concert slates become for consumers? It’s kind of ridiculous, all winning so by free mp3 downloads. It’s particularly ridiculous in the concert scene when you realize you can get most of the highlighting on YouTube for next to nothing. Got are the days of arriving to the show days early to park your VW bus, camp out, hook up and tune out. Arrived are the days of downloading everything fast and furiously, free mp3 downloads staining out every otherwise option.

Let’s talk specifics. For sets like Phish, Enjoyable Dead, Blues Traveler, and others, the Internet doesn’t make personal attendance a demand to be part of the scene. Blogs and RSS feeds let people climb right on the bandwagon without anybody standing on top to toss of the freeloaders. As a result, there is less of a common vibe in wide because of these contrived and virtual biotic communities. Earlier music fans aren’t as concerned about practiced music performances-they don’t care if musicians straight really PLAY instrumentate at all-and, in fact, travesty is fine, too.

Free mp3 downloads and gone new technology have imparted a lot of this about. Let’s take, for example, the fact that anybody with a webcam and a Casio can be an Nets rock star-I’m reckoning of that band (maybe called GO! . . . ?) who made that video that had all of the band members singing the song on tread-wheel doing a hilarious fair (all extremely well-executed), choreographed by the lead singer’s sister. The lead singer’s sister! Not even a band member-but she was like senior pilot of her high cultivate drill team or something. Next matter you knew, they were on the Annual Show and the Colbert Report. Now, conceded, it was actually a really cute birdcall and the video did basically rock-but it was the visuals that literally sold the band.
