Beware the fake WoW beta invite emails

Posted by on Monday, 7 September, 2009

logo_1024x0768Despite the fact that Blizzard has warned us, there have been some fake beta invite emails starting to go out for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. In fact, they tried to catch the CrunchGear crew this morning with their little fake email and site.

It started out looking legitimate enough; having received emails from Blizzard before, the format and tone looked legitimate. The first clue that something was wrong was when the URL that was shown in the email was different from the one that showed up on the webpage. Not to mention that to the best of my knowledge, “betasignup.com” is not a domain owned by Blizz, or somewhere they would ever send us.

After seeing the wrong URL come up, it was apparent it was a phishing expedition. The design of the page looked good, but when you refresh it, the captcha didn’t change.. Interesting eh? After bypassing the captcha screen, we get to the point: they ask for your account name, email address, and password. The fake site always warns to always check to make sure you are going to the “official” URL – a third different URL from the one included in the original email.

It gets better. After I entered in a fake user ID, password, and email address, the site told me that, “In order to ensure all accepted beta applicants have enough play time on their accounts, a 60 day pre-paid Game card is required.”

Yeah, right.

So not only are these scumbags trying to scam you for your account information, they are also trying to screw you over for a 60 day pre-paid card. Nice eh? This is why I use (and recommend you do too) the Blizzard authenticator. It’s easy to set up, and makes your account completely safe from any and all hacking attempts. There are two versions of the key, a dongle, and a mobile phone software version. The iPhone/iPod touch version is free, and definitely worth your time to set up.

So I hope you didn’t fall for that email. If you did, I suggest you contact Blizzard directly, unless your account is already gone.

Valkor’s Gold Guide Review

Posted by on Monday, 24 August, 2009

One of the Original Gold Guides

Playing WoW isn’t much fun if you don’t have any gold. That is one of the reasons Gold guides exist and Valkor’s gold guide is no exception. It was the first of it’s kind created by a player who began leveling in the good old days of 2004. And it will show you some of the best ways to grab lots of gold.

Valkor’s Gold Making Guide is always being updated with new strategies and tips. Recently information was added on the Burning Crusade and Wrath of Lich King, for example. It especially excels on information about how to make gold whatever your profession.

It has comprehensive coverage for items others are looking so you can profit easily at the auction house. Looking for hard to find items, including designs, formulas, and recipes, will be a whole lot easier with Valkor’s Gold Making Guide. All the Motes and Primals you can use can be found with this guide.

Generally the guide is designed for players with characters at higher levels. However, characters at lower levels can still gain alot from the many tips specially designed for them. Click here for more information on WoW Guides: Best World of Warcraft Leveling Guides.

When you buy Valkor’s Gold Making Guide you also get access to the newsletter, as well as some Profession Leveling Guides to help you get your character to a higher level. Updates are included plus a 60 day WoW game card. These alone make the guide a great buy at the price. If there is a criticism with Valkors guide it is with the flow of the contents. One thing that definitely would have made it better is if the guide was separated into “Chapters” or there was some sort of system to separate the different sections. The way it is set up right now the sections run together a bit.

To Sum Up

Valkors Gold Guide is very detailed and it is this level of detail that makes it stand out from many if the rest. The methods are explained so thoroughly that I would call this guide fool-proof. Every situation is covered, whether you are a veteran or newbie, whether you want to grind or use the Auction House, even if you want to learn how to make some money using your profession. The support was also very prompt on replying and quite helpful. The bottom line is that this guide will have you making massive amounts of gold fast.

Gaming Card Counting Tricks

Posted by on Sunday, 12 July, 2009

Does card counting work? Yes. In the 9 years that I worked as a blackjack dealer, I saw a lot of hopeful schemes and ideas, and while many failed, some of them really did work. Card counting, while uncommon, has a proven track-record of making money for those who are willing to do it right.

Card counting is a little too involved to teach in a short article, but that’s not what this article is about. Before you learn the specific skills, you need to know what it will involve to really do it right, before you decide if it is worth the venture. That is what this article is about.

Card Counting 101. In the game of blackjack, card counting is a technique for ″beating the house.″ Using this technique you make more money than you lose in the long run, but not necessarily on any given day. You beat the house by playing in such a way that the odds are in your favor. How do you determine when the odds in your favor? You watch and track the deck. When the deck is has a high number ″rich″ of high-value cards (10,J,Q,K,A), the odds are slightly in favor of the player. while statistically true, how much in favor of the players the odds shift is dependant on the “house rules” (number of decks, shuffle position to name just a few) of that particular online casino.

The basic idea is to monitor the cards as they come out, and when the deck has more high-value cards than low-value cards in it, you would bet more. When he deck contains more Low-Value cards than High value cards you would wager less. In other words, you should make money in the long run. The above is a simple explanation, and you will need to study a good counting book to make this work. First you need to know ″basic strategy,″ meaning you need to know when to take a ″hit″ and when to stand. Your play has to be precise to really have the edge. You also need to practice at home for hours.

It can be tough at first to track of all those cards flying out of that shoe, while the other players talk and waitresses interrupt you. The ″counting″ is essentially assigning a value to the cards and tracking that value. This is done most easily at tables where the cards are dealt face up (except the dealer’s ″hole card″). Aces and face cards are assigned a value of -1, two through six are valued at +1, and seven, eight and nine are considered neutral. Watching the cards, you add and subtract their values, wagering the table minimum all the while. When you arrive at a predetermined value, let’s say +7, you increase your wager. The higher count means that there is a higher percentage of high-value cards in the deck than normal. Which means that the odds are in your favor.

One counter used to sit and wager the table minimum and count by shifting chips between two stacks. When the stacks indicated that the count was in his favor he would place a large wager. Now this isn’t recommended as you are clearly indicating to the security personnel, who are always watching for card counters, that you are counting. Not only are you are even telling them, but you are letting them know what the count is. Even when you count well you are only getting a 1.5% edge over the house. Card counting is not a get rich scheme, you can expect to make about $9 an hour if your hands average $8. Certainly not enough to pay for your trip but knowing you beat the casino is, well like that commercial says… priceless.   Find out more at 21 card game, 44 Bar or All Stars Strip Poker.
