By Andrew Liszewski

Clearly designed for strictly playing homebrew SNES titles, and definitely not ROMS you’ve acquired from the internet, the new NEO SNES/SFC Myth Cart plugs into your Super Famicom or Super Nintendo console like any standard game cartridge, but does just a bit more. It connects to your PC via USB allowing you to copy ROMS directly to the cart, or copy/backup save game files to your computer, and according to the NEOTEAM it supports up to 99.5% of all Super Famicom/Super Nintendo games. At $169 it will probably only appeal to those who’ve turned their nose up at the Wii’s Virtual Console, or those who still have an SNES hooked up at home… like me.

Review: DS Lite Transformers kit from PDP

Short Version: Friends, this is the nerdiest and coolest Nintendo DS Lite case that a Transformers fan could ask for. What kid (12-year-old or 35-year-old) wouldn’t want their DS to look like Bumblebee or Megatron? Do you see the stylus that each set comes with? Pick one up for your kid or yourself. They’re only $20.

Long Version: I’m not entirely sure what to tell you in the long version of this review, but I’ll give it a shot.

The case is made of a rubber material ensuring any bumps on the top case are absorbed by Bumblebee’s armor. The bottom case includes a slide-out game cartridge drawer made of a heavier plastic so you’re covered where it matters most. But the hinge can be vulnerable to scratches or a drop.

My particular review unit was the Bumblebee kit that includes the portly stylus. The DS Lite recognizes it as if it was any other stylus, but it’s a little too big for my tastes. If I could hook it onto the case itself for transport than I might feel differently.

Again, for only $20 (the stylus or case alone retails for $13) the Transformers themed case from PDP is a welcome addition to my Transformers collection. The stylus is big, sure, but it looks cool and I never really just carry my DS Lite anywhere.

aaSNES1 – Acer Aspire One/SNES PC/console mod

“Take one of the greatest games consoles ever made, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Then gut it to place a fully working PC inside of it.” Words spoken from the brains of a true modder. This is the Acer Aspire SNES 1. It’s an 8.9-inch Acer Aspire One A150 / Super Nintendo Entertainment System (UK) remix built from the genius of two British super-hacks by the names of quangDX and DuPPs.

Their masterpiece isn’t quite finished – they’re waiting for a few bits and pieces from Hong Kong – but you can already appreciate what a great job they’ve done. Some clever use of LEGO blocks to get the components to sit at the correct levels and a USB to joypad converter for your mouse, or what have you, but the best touches have got to be the 4-LED SNES logo on top and the way that the Super Mario World game cartridge is used to house both a webcam and a slot-loading DVDRW. Nice touch. Go and take a closer look of how it’s all done on their website but, before you go, do show your appreciation of a rather splendid piece of work. Hip, hip… Asobitech
