Acer Iconia Tab A510 to hit European retailers this April?

Posted by on Wednesday, 25 January, 2012

Amidst the madness that was CES, Acer quietly snuck its Iconia Tab A510 onto the showroom floor, tucking the tablet into the folds of NVIDIA’s booth. While the company was more than willing to fess up to the slate’s specs — quad-core Tegra 3 processor, skinned Ice Cream Sandwich UX, 1280 x 800 display — little in the way of pricing and availability were revealed. If a report out of Germany is to be believed, however, Europeans (sorry, statesiders) might very well see the 10.1-incher hit retail as early as this April, with a €500 price tag in tow. That’s all the rumor mill’s wrought for now, folks, but we’ll keep you posted should the news go official at CeBIT 2012.

Achtung: German satellite to crash down tonight, won’t land in Germany

Achtung: German satellite to crash down tonight, won't land in Germany

As if it weren’t hard enough keeping your house safe from debt collectors these days, now you have something else to worry about: a falling German satellite called ROSAT. The German Aerospace Center has estimated that the hunk of decommissioned, extra-orbital metal will enter the atmosphere sometime between 7:30pm ET tonight and 1:30am ET tomorrow. It’s unknown whether any of the thing will survive re-entry, but the 1.7 ton telescope mirror onboard very well may, striking the surface at a hasty 17,398MPH. The agency doesn’t know where it will fall, but did reassuringly say that it won’t hit Europe — German scientists basically telling the rest of the world to spend all night worrying while they doze away, peacefully. At least it won’t be taking any of its orbital brethren with it…

Nokia N9 begins shipping at not inexpensive prices

Posted by on Tuesday, 27 September, 2011
After months of rumors and pre-orders, the Nokia N9 has finally begun shipping. Today, the Finnish manufacturer announced that its Meego-drenched handsets are now available for consumption, in both 16GB and 64GB variants. Of course, those of us in the US are out of luck, as are those in Germany and the UK (barring any back-door wizardry), but everyone else can grab a 16GB model for the not-so-small price of €480 (about 0), or the 64GB version for the similarly steep price of €560 (roughly 7). Pricing and availability, of course, will vary by region, but you can find more details in the full press release after the break, or at the source link, below.

Nokia N9 coming to Australia in October on three carriers

Posted by on Thursday, 1 September, 2011
The Nokia N9 will be considered a rarity in the US, UK and Germany when it’s released, but at least fans Down Under won’t have to look very far to get their hands on one. Espoo’s officially announced its intention of selling the MeeGo device on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone, in addition to distributing it through several major retailers. Look for the one-of-a-kind handset to make its way to Australia in October for roughly 0; those who opt for the 16GB model will be able to choose from black, blue and pink, whereas the 64GB version will only be made available in black. Full presser can be found below.

Working Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 spotted, handled in Germany (video)

Posted by on Monday, 2 May, 2011

We had a chance to peek at a glass-protected dummy version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 8.9 at CTIA, but the real thing popped up at an event in Germany over the weekend, in all its svelte gadget glory. Our friend Johannes went hands-on with the tablet in Frankfurt, and liked what he saw. The version he saw was noticeably thinner than the prototype 8.9-incher that we got to smudge up in March (it’s even slimmer than the iPad 2), and if this Europe appearance is any indication, Sammy may be on track to launch these sometime this summer, as promised. The launch date has yet to be announced, so if you can’t wait any longer to get your hands on the Android Honeycomb device, you can try the 10.1-inch version on for size beginning this month.
