Greenpeace Hates Big Tech, But Wants To Kill Google Least

Greenpeace looks down on the tech giants of the world. But it looks down on Google the least. On Tuesday, the big-name environmental-rights outfit unveiled its annual ranking of the tech giants working hardest to combat climate change and shift their operations to renewable energy sources. It’s called the “Cool IT Leaderboard,” and this year’s leader is Google, which scores a mere 53 points out of 100. Cisco, last year’s leader, dropped to second, with 49 points.

Kobo has long been happy to position itself as the underdog in the e-reader race, a spin that’s based on more than a few grains of truth. After all, what else should this small Canadian company call itself after years of going head to head with giants like Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Sony? In spite of its perceived disadvantages, though, it’s remained competitive with products like the eReader Touch Edition, a device that matched the Nook and Kindle feature-for-feature.

Now, the company is attempting to pull off a similar feat with the Vox, its first entry in the tablet space — and a clear shot across the bow at a couple low-cost slates from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Can the e-reader David pull off an upset against a couple of Goliaths this go ’round, or have the company’s limited resources finally gotten the better of it? Facebook Seeks Free Love Among Data Center Giants

Facebook is dead serious about building common standards for efficient hardware in the data center. On Thursday, the social networking giant launched the Open Compute Foundation, an industry association that aims to reduce the cost and environmental impact of the computers that run great swaths of the Internet.

Report: Sprint Makes Multibillion Dollar Bet on the iPhone

If there’s one device that could save Sprint from a losing battle for customers with wireless giants Verizon and AT&T, it’s the iPhone. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse told the company’s board that the carrier agreed to purchase 30.5 million iPhones over the next four years. Today, a purchase of that size amounts to billion USD.
