Screen Grabs: Palm Pre-iPhone hybrid appears on Grimm, doesn’t look half bad

Posted by on Monday, 31 October, 2011

Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today’s movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dot com.

Anyone who caught the series premiere of Grimm, NBC’s new fairy-tale-and-crime-procedural would have seen another sort of unearthly fusion: a Palm Pre device ringing like an iPhone. The phone then switches to the typical webOS interface we’ve long admired, picking up reception on AT&T along the way. We’re torn over whether they’re using a Pre 2 or another Palm family member, though the screen looks too dinky for it to be the mythical Pre 3. But in a world of monster hunters and big bad wolves, we guess anything’s possible.

[Thanks, Ben]

Samsung Galaxy Nexus leaks on official site, flashes Verizon affiliation

Posted by on Tuesday, 18 October, 2011

Guess what just showed up in searches on Samsung.com? That’s right, the Galaxy Nexus. The official product page isn’t live so there’s not much to see beyond front, back, and side shots of the device. Wondering what happened to that Nexus Prime branding? Several readers have let us know searching for that also pulls up the same result on Samsung’s suddenly leaky homepage. We’ve gotten familiar with the soft keys and rainbow background after many leaks, so check your local Verizon coverage map and come back here ’round 10PM ET for a big bite of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

See that there? That’s a Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi, and after months on end of mystery, it seems as if the wait to procure one in the US of A is just about over. Shipments are arriving at Best Buy stores across the nation, and according to our sources, they’ll be stocked and ready for purchase starting September 22nd. We’re still waiting to hear back on a retail price, but those who’d like to hazard a guess can extrapolate from those UK figures. So, did your Tuesday plans just get made?

iMAME4All gains experimental support for iCade, iOS gamers gain infinite happiness

Posted by on Monday, 11 July, 2011

Guess what, emulation junkies? iMAME4All, a staple amongst retro iOS gamers, can now support iCade. Thanks to one Todd Laney, there’s now a 3.5MB download that’ll bring the joys of iCade to a relatively commonplace MAME application (and vice-versa). We’re told that the best way to use these two is in fullscreen portrait mode, and after tapping the option button (and selecting “Options), the onscreen controls will fade out and the iCade buttons will appear. Looks like that Benjamin you just saved up now has yet another reason to be spent.

[Thanks, Jim]
