How OSS/BSS Is Vital To Remaining In The Telecommunication Market

It is imperative for business to stay in touch with their customer base and with the developments in the industry in which they compete. The methodology used to do this is referred to as telecom OSS, a two pronged approach to the business of telecommunications. Business support systems deal with the way the industry works with its customers, the operations support systems deal with the physical infrastructure and controlling tools.

The coverage of this industry is truly global, between the ubiquitous towers from which the name cellular derives and the satellites above orbiting the globe. It is why with the right handheld device, a phone call can be made from even the most austere isolated place on earth. The complexity of the process of providing this kind of any time any place technology is lost on the consumers who depend on it. They take it for granted that it will work.

It is a constant challenge to determine the right balance of focus between the two necessary parts of the industry. With the incredible cost of upgrading infrastructure, there is an overwhelming tendency to focus on the people and service part. This is, of course, an unsustainable process for any provider who wants to keep up with the competition.

One method of using the technical side of the industry to bolster the people side is to guide the discourse into how the technical provides service to the customer. Successful campaigns have employed the Herculean task of providing coverage to the entire nation as a foil to demonstrate the care taken to provide service to customers. The complex customer base that the telecommunication industry courts demands they filter their data for trends and stay ahead of the curve.

Perhaps even more than manufacturing corporations, service industries need to find or develop systems which control systems. That is not to imply that the telecommunication industry is not using information systems, far from it. The industry converted from manual data input way back in 1970, and have actually been at the forefront of computer systems ever since.

What is needed to remain capable and efficient is an overarching system that can control the others. The future of telecommunications and the determining factor of who will succeed and who will become footnotes in the evolution of communication depend on data mining and accurate decisions. Consumer data alone is an overwhelming cache of information to accurately parse, and adding the relentless innovation and information system updates to the database makes it nearly impossible for human control. The enlightened players are focusing on BSS/OSS to keep their seat at the table.

Also for any ‘gadget freaks’ these are ‘must have’ items and they are willing to go to extreme measures to attain them.

Will These Devices Improve in the Next Year? With the speed technology is now moving forward there is a very good chance that these new products will be improved on very soon. A lot of people buy a new product only to find that a newer more improved model is released the very next year. This is because there are often teething problems with devices upon their first release, so you might be better off waiting a while before buying one of these devices to see if there are any major glitches.
