<p>No self-respecting drive head <em>wants</em> to travel further than is strictly necessary to fetch that bloody MP3 you just clicked. That&#8217;s why Hitachi&#8217;s effort to cram 1TB onto a single platter with a cosy 569 gigabits per square inch makes a lot of sense: it reduces the distance between chunks of data, thereby improving the HDD&#8217;s sequential transfer rates while also lowering its calorie consumption. You&#8217;ll find these ultra-dense discs in the new 1TB Deskstar 7k1000.D and 5k1000.B models, which started shipping today, as well as in the CinemaStar range coming later this fall. Sure, Seagate got there first, but we&#8217;ll happily overlook that fact as soon as Hitachi decides to serve up a five-platter 5TB whopper to go with our lettuce. Full specs in the PR after the break.

With large storage capacity, iPod classic lets you carry everything in your collection &#8211; up to 40.000 songs or up to 200 hours of video &#8211; everywhere you go. In a completely new, even thinner, all-metal design, this iPod is a modern classic. The iPod classic gives your music and video room to move. It also has plenty of energy (up to 40 hours of audio playback), good looks (a sleek, all-metal design), and a great personality (a brand-new interface with Cover Flow). In other words, iPod classic makes an ideal companion. Why not get to know it better?</p>

<p>Toshiba Japan has <a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.toshiba.co.jp%2Fabout%2Fpress%2F2010_04%2Fpr_j1401.htm&sref=rss">announced</a> [JP] a total of 15 new LCD REGZA TVs for the Japanese market today (the company is selling REGZAs <a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tacp.toshiba.com%2Fregza%2F&sref=rss">outside Japan</a>, meaning chances are these new models will be rolled out internationally, too). And there&#8217;s a REGZA-branded HDD now. Here are the main specs for the entire lineup.</p>
<p><strong>REGZA Z1 Series</strong></p>
<p><strong><a rel="attachment wp-att-152171" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F04%2F14%2Fled-regza-toshiba-japan-to-roll-out-15-new-lcd-tvs%2F55z1%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-152171" title="55z1" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/55z1-620x465.jpg" alt="" width="620" height="465" /></a><br />
</strong></p>
<p>The flagship Z series consists of a total of four models, sized at 37 (37Z1, $2,700), 42 ($3,300), 47 ($4,200) and 55 inches ($5,200/pictured above). All Z1 TVs boast a full HD &#8220;Clear&#8221; LED panel (IPS), LED edge light, a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1, a recording function over USB or LAN (HDDs sold separately, see picture below), 10W×2 speakers, 4 HDMI interfaces, REGZA link, an SD/SDHC card slot, two USB ports, video-on-demand support, Ethernet, and Windows 7 support.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-152172" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F04%2F14%2Fled-regza-toshiba-japan-to-roll-out-15-new-lcd-tvs%2Ftoshiba_usb%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-152172" title="toshiba_usb" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/toshiba_usb-620x706.jpg" alt="" width="620" height="706" /></a></p>
<p>The Z series TVs will go on sale in Japan in June.</p>
<p><strong>REGZA RE1 Series</strong></p>
<p><strong><a rel="attachment wp-att-152173" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F04%2F14%2Fled-regza-toshiba-japan-to-roll-out-15-new-lcd-tvs%2F55re1_toshiba%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-152173" title="55RE1_toshiba" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/55RE1_toshiba-620x465.jpg" alt="" width="620" height="465" /></a><br />
</strong></p>
<p>The RE1 is Toshiba&#8217;s new &#8220;middle range&#8221; series and consists of eight TVs. While the four smaller models (19/22/26/32 inches) feature just 1,366×768 resolution, the four other RE1 TVs (37/42/47/55 inches) are full HD. The RE1 models are priced between $850 for the smallest model (19RE1) and $4,600 for the biggest (55RE1). All feature LED edge light, a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1, REGZA link, a recording function over USB or LAN (HDDs sold separately), Ethernet, video-on-demand support, a USB port, and four HDMI interfaces (two in the four smaller models). Only the the four big RE1 TVs have the &#8220;clear&#8221; LED panel the Z1 TVs have.</p>
<p>In Japan, Toshiba plans to roll out the TVs from this series between next month and August. The 55-inch model is pictured above.</p>
<p><strong>REGZA HE1 Series</strong></p>
<p><strong><a rel="attachment wp-att-152174" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F04%2F14%2Fled-regza-toshiba-japan-to-roll-out-15-new-lcd-tvs%2Ftoshiba_he1%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-152174" title="toshiba_he1" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/toshiba_he1-620x486.jpg" alt="" width="620" height="486" /></a><br />
</strong></p>
<p>Sized at 19, 22 and 26 inches, Toshiba&#8217;s new entry-level REGZA&#8217;s are the 19HE1 ($1,200), 22HE1 ($1,300/pictured) and the 26HE1 ($1,400). They all feature 1,366×768 resolution, LED edge light, REGZA link, two HDMI interfaces, a USB port, Ethernet, video-on-demand support, and a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. The biggest bullet point is the internal 500GB HDD that can be found in all HE1 TVs (just like the recording function over USB or LAN the RE1 and Z1 TVs also have).</p>
<p>Toshiba plans to start selling the three HE1 models in Japan from July.</p>

Granted, the seven new LCD (non-3D) TVs Sony <a href="http://www.sony.jp/CorporateCruise/Press/201003/10-0309/">announced</a> [JP] in Japan today are not <a href="http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/03/09/sony-3d-tvs-go-on-sale-in-japan-and-probably-the-us-in-june-video/">as sexy as their 3D counterparts</a>, but they are worth mentioning, too. The new BRAVIAs break down into three series, the NX800, the HX700 and the HDD-equipped BX-30H. In contrast to the 3D TVs presented today, Sony didn't go into details regarding international sales plans for their 2D models.

The new BRAVIAs break down into three series, the NX800, the HX700 and the HDD-equipped BX-30H. In contrast to the 3D TVs presented today, Sony didn&#8217;t go into details regarding international sales plans for their 2D models.</p>
<p><strong>NX800</strong></p>
<p>The NX800 series consists of a 40- and a 46-inch model, the KDL-46NX800 (pictured above). Both are full HD and come with LED backlight, four HDMI ports, a USB port, wireless LAN, and the so-called On/Off Conscious function, which makes sure the TVs get turned off automatically when they detect no people in the vicinity.</p>
<p>Prices: $2,200 for the small model, $2,900 for the 46-incher (release date for both: April 30).</p>
<p><strong>HX700</strong></p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-144606" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F03%2F09%2Fnot-3d-but-pretty-too-sonys-seven-new-lcd-tvs%2F46hx700_sony%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-144606" title="46HX700_sony" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/46HX700_sony.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" /></a><a rel="attachment wp-att-144607" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F03%2F09%2Fnot-3d-but-pretty-too-sonys-seven-new-lcd-tvs%2F46hx700_sony_2%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-144607" title="46HX700_sony_2" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/46HX700_sony_2.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" /></a></p>
<p>The HX700 series consists of two models with the same sizes as the NX800 TVs. The 46-inch model, the KDL-46HX700, is pictured above. Spec-wise, these two displays lack the wireless LAN function and the LED backlight (they have CCFL backlights instead). Prices: $2,100 for the 40-incher, and $2,800 for the 46-inch model (release date: April 30).</p>
<p><strong>BX-30H</strong></p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-144622" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F03%2F09%2Fnot-3d-but-pretty-too-sonys-seven-new-lcd-tvs%2Fkdl-32bx30h_sony%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-144622" title="KDL-32BX30H_sony" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/KDL-32BX30H_sony.jpg" alt="" width="682" height="512" /></a></p>
<p>The main selling point of the BX-30H series is the 500GB HDD the 22-, 26- and 32-inch models come with (the 32-incher, the KDL-32BX-30H is pictured above). All three models have CCFL backlights, feature just 1,366×768 resolution, don&#8217;t have a USB port and only three HDMI interfaces. Prices: $900 for the smallest version, $1,050 for the 26-inch model and $1,120 for the 32-incher.</p>
<p>All BX-30H TVs will hit Japanese stores on June 10.</p>

Computer equipment maker Buffalo is pretty <a href="http://search.techcrunch.com/query.php?s=buffalo+3.0">bullish about USB 3.0</a>. The company today announced a total of five new USB 3.0 HDDs for the Japanese market, namely <a href="http://buffalo.jp/products/new/2010/001091.html">two "compact models"</a> [JP] (81×130×16mm) and <a href="http://buffalo.jp/products/new/2010/001090.html">three bigger (45×175×156mm) devices</a> [JP]. The HD-PEU3-BK (pictured above), the compact type, will be available in a version that holds 500 GB (price: $200) and another one with 640GB ($250).</p>
<p>Buffalo also presented three more conventional HDDs with 1TB ($230), 1.5TB ($300) and 2GB ($420), respectively (pictured below). Just like the compact models, these drives from the HD-HXU3 series are compatible with Windows XP/7/Vista and Mac OSX 10.4. All of these devices are backwards compatible to USB 2.0.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-141757" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=21261X792902&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchgear.com%2F2010%2F02%2F24%2Fjapan-gets-slew-of-new-usb-3-0-external-hdds%2Fbuffalo_hd-hxu3%2F&sref=rss"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-141757" title="buffalo_HD-HXU3" src="http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/buffalo_HD-HXU3-620x465.jpg" alt="" width="620" height="465" /></a></p>
<p>Buffalo says they will start selling all five new HDDs in Japan at the beginning of next month. The company does sell hardware outside Japan, too, so you can expect the devies to go on sale outside this country some day as well.</p>
