Any great fan of American rock music would definitely appreciate a good read of the Linkin Park biography. In 1996, the band was formed in Agoura Hills, California. They experienced their first break into the international music scene in 2005 when they released their first album, ‘Hybrid Theory’, which was taken from one of their previous band names. The album was certified diamond record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The group was originally made up of Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Rob Bourdon. They were three high school friends who shared the same musical ambitions. They soon decided to form a band which they then called Xero and then went out to recruit David Farrell, Joe Hahn, and Mark Wakefield.
They also went through some difficulties as they were looking for a record company to grant them a record deal. This is just typical of any other band. However, because of these difficulties, they experienced some misunderstandings among themselves which led to the departure of Wakefield and Farrell.
As a replacement for Wakefield, which was their vocalist at the time of his departure, they decided to get Chester Bennington and he became an official member on March of 1999. It was around this time that they changed their name from Xero to Hybrid Theory. And as part of any Linkin Park biography, they finally settled to that name as a homage to Santa Monica’s Lincoln Park.
Jeff Blue, a vice president of Warner Bros. Records, finally gave the group their first major break. It was after they have been trying for so many times to land a major record deal. The result of this was their debut album, ‘Hybrid Theory’ which was released in 2000.
‘Hybrid Theory’ is considered to be a very sweet success for the band simply because it had almost a decade worth of songs that they had written which finally got to be recorded. The album sold above 4.8 million copies The band won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance with their single, ‘Crawling’. But they were also nominated for two other awards, Best Rock Album and Best New Artist. That was considered a rare thing for a band to win a Grammy and be nominated thrice considering that they had just released their debut album. As a result, sales for their album and Linkin Park merch soared.
Other successful albums followed. On March 25, 2003 their second album, ‘Meteora’, was released. The name was taken from the rocky region of Meteora in Greece.By the end of that year, the album sold over 3 million copies and also immediately went to the number one spot.
Next was ‘Minutes to Midnight’ that was launched on March 15, 2007. The group spent about 14 months just to record and finish the album. It has since sold over 8 million copies.
‘A Thousand Suns’ was their more recent album and it was launched on September 2008. It was different from the other albums because it was a concept album. It had war and nuclear warfare for its main themes.
This is certainly a short Linkin Park biography because we can definitely expect more from the band. With their wide range of talent that covers rap, rock, nu metal and others, the band will surely come up with new songs and styles. For this reason we can expect higher demand for their albums and band merch for their fans to enjoy.
