Here’s a coupon you can use to slash up to $550 your total when buying laptops from HP’s online store. Great news if you found the updated and more affordable HP Envy still a bit too expensive. Here’s how to use it:

1. Visit the HP Home & Home Office Store, by clicking here.
2. You’ll see HP’s line laptops. Click on “ENVY”.
3. Select the Envy laptop of your choice, customize as needed, then click add to cart.
4. When checking out, enter the coupon code “NBK11659″ into the box beside “Coupon Code” under “Order Summary” on the right side, then click on Apply.
5. You should now see an updated total. When I tried the coupon code while checking out an HP Envy 13, $350 was slashed off my total.

It’s that easy! For laptops with an instant rebate already applied, the coupon stacks up. That’s where I got the “up to $550″ mentioned above, as the highest rebate available through this promo is $200.

On the market for a thin laptop? HP recently dropped the prices of the HP Envy 13 and the HP Envy 15, two inch-thin laptops that nevertheless pack quite a punch under the hood.

The Envy 13 enjoys a $300 drop, so it now costs buyers at least $1,500 from the HP online store. It’s bigger brother—the Envy 15—represents even more value, thanks to a $500 slash. Acer recently outpaced Dell as the second largest PC seller in the world. Is No. 1 Hewlett-Packard next on the list?

Acer Chairman J.T. Wang reportedly intends to ship 40 million notebooks in 2010, a number that could help the Taiwanese company challenge and even overtake current champ Hewlett-Packard for the top spot in portable PC sales.

To achieve this goal, Acer is looking to kick up revenue by more than 70 percent over the next three years, said Wang in an interview with Reuters.

Much of that revenue growth is likely to come from an anticipated 50 percent gain in sales for low-cost Netbook PCs. As the economy improves, Wang expects to sell an ever greater number of low-priced, portable PCs, a segment that has been very kind to the company.

As chairman since 2008, Wang has led Acer as its sales and market share have shot up over the past year. And with revenue expected to hit $18 billion this year, he’s already targeting the next milestone.

We’ll have more on this little gem this week but I present to you the HP Envy 13, the first netbook notebook (HP is citing the heavy-duty Core 2 Duo processor in there) I’d actually consider buying. It hit 2813 on Geekbench, lasted about three hours on one charge, and is smaller and lighter than a MacBook. Best of all it runs Windows 7 Professional like a champ and has HP’s instant-on technology for quick media and communications applications. Hot, hot stuff.
