I don’t know why, but I think I prefer Sony digital cameras over Sony VAIO laptops. I always believed that the performance of a Sony VAIO never justified the price. And just to give you an example as to why I think Sony cameras are awesome, let us see what the Sony H20 digital camera can do.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

With a price of only $279.99, this camera has 4.3 x 2.8 x 1.9 inches in dimensions and 9.9 ounces in weight. The camera has 10 megapixels and a 3 inch LCD. The highest resolution at which the Sony H20 digital camera can take pictures is 3648 x 2736 pixels and the video resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels at 30 FPS. With a new and improved menu, this Sony digital camera is easy to use and maneuver even by those that haven’t got a clue.

With a 10x zoom lens and cools looks, this camera takes excellent photos. Due to the size of the camera we can’t exactly say that it is going to fit in just any pocket. All the buttons that are distributed along the surface of the camera are big enough to be easily pressed and in time if you get used to their position, you can even press them when you’re not looking at the camera. On the top you will notice the mode dial which was strategically placed there so you can easily handle it with your thumb.

The top side also hosts the power button, the zoom ring and the shutter release. The Smile shutter is quite a cool feature as it actually gives the camera a command to continuously take picture when the subject is smiling. The Sony H20 digital camera has a couple of general shooting options which may be of interest to you. The ISO Sensitivity can be set to Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 or 3200. The white balance can be adjusted to Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent 1, 2, and 3, Incandescent, Flash, and Manual. Intelligent Auto, Easy, Program, Manual, Scene Selection and Movie are the recording modes. Even if you have manual setting options, most of them are set to Auto so you can take pictures without having to worry about having made the right settings all the time. The Sony Intelligent Auto is the one responsible for turning on face detection and image stabilization. The SCN is awesome because it lets you choose between different scenery like Beach or Fireworks. The Advanced Sports option will keep any moving subjects in focus.

This camera is placed in the megazooms category and even if these types of cameras are considered to be the slowest, the Sony H20 digital camera did not seem to disappoint users so far. It takes 1.5 for the start time. Other numbers that may be of interest to the photography passionate are the 2.1 seconds time for shot-to-shot under bright light and 2.8 second when the camera is in flash use. Ok, it may not be the best digital camera in the world but you have to admit that for the price you pay, you get a camera above the category average.

I don’t know why, but I think I prefer Sony digital cameras over Sony VAIO laptops. I always believed that the performance of a Sony VAIO never justified the price. And just to give you an example as to why I think Sony cameras are awesome, let us see what the Sony H20 digital camera can do.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

Camera’s features are getting bigger and bigger while their dimensions get smaller and smaller. Akin to the Nikon S630 and Sony W290, Panasonic Lumix FS15 is another pocket digital camera. These cameras are also very simple, essential you can put them on auto modes, allowing the photographer to truly shoot and point not concerning themselves with any deeper modifications or settings. FS15 is truly excellent while W290 was good and S630 was disappointing. It manages to combine lightweight and stylish design, simple operation and great image quality perfectly. This camera would make an excellent choice for consumers interested in a pocket-friendly and compact camera and it is a pleasure to use.
<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->
The Panasonic Lumix FS15 is a 12-megapixel digital camera with 29mm wide-angle lens and 5x optical zoom. For storing photos uses Secure Digital memory cards and has a large, vivid 2.7-inch LCD display. Though it’s hard to imagine why you wouldn’t want to use the latter, the camera has two automatic modes the intelligent kind and the traditional kind. W290 and FS15 are very similar except the high-def video. FS15 sticks with a standard-definition mode while W290 has a video mode capable of taking 720p video clips. FS15 has a nicer look and does just fine without HD video.

When it comes to design FS15 is a real winner. Panasonic has made this camera very lightweight, very thin and incredibly compact. Fits comfortably in the palm of one’s hand and weighs only about four ounces. The camera is available in blue, black or silver. Where you might expect to find a mode dial you will find the Intelligent Auto (iA) button. A minor annoyance is that shutter and the iA button are very close.

For such a small camera it is able to produce truly excellent photos. With little evidence of image noise and blurring , the photos are colourful, vivid and clear. Whenever the environment required it Intelligent Auto moved seamlessly and swiftly through landscape, portrait and macro.

The Panasonic Lumix FS15 is an excellent camera for those who are not focusing on what they are shooting with but for them it is more important what they shooting.

Sony Cybershot W290 is an interesting pocket digital camera although not so revolutionary. The W290 features above-average 28mm wide-angle lens with 5x optical zoom and 12.1-megapixel sensor. Sony cameras don’t use Standard Digital Memory, they use a different technology – proprietary Memory Stick media cards .

In terms of design , with a shiny reflective faceplate is a boxy slim gadget. Vivid 3.0-inch LCD display is featured by the back of the camera. Menus are easy to read and navigate and subtle details are visible when framing photographs. Slightly problematic are the buttons on the back of the camera. For example, the buttons for deleting images, video playback, accessing image or accessing the menu are incredibly small.

For novice and casual photographers this automatic camera will be a dream. Considering the affordable price tag, the value is definitely there .

The Samsung PL series is all about making digital photography fun, easy and fairly cheap, and what the Korean tech overlord has done today is to add on a little functionality to that list. PL70 The PL70 comes with a 12.2-megapixel sensor, capturing stills and 720p HD video through a wide-angle 28mm lens with 5x optical zoom and displaying them for your pleasure on the 3-inch, 230K colour, LCD screen on the back. It measures 95.8mm × 59.5mm × 23.9mm, comes in black, silver, red or pink and gives you 11 scene modes to play with as well as an intelligent auto mode that will make the choice for you. Naturally, there's image stabilisation, whether you're in optical or digital zoom modes, and it comes with all the usual beauty shot, smile shot, face detection, blink detection and self portrait modes that most good compacts have these days to help you get the results you're after. A very reasonable £199 from August. PL55 Essentially the same beast as its bigger brother here but no HD video shooting mode. You can still capture moving footage but only in 640 x 480 MPEGS rather than the H.264 encoding on the PL70. That brings the price down to £149 but you also switch to a standard, non-wide, 35mm lens and a smaller 2.7-inch LCD and I'm not sure that's worth the saving. However, if you are on a budget, you can pick up this 97mm x 59mm x 24.5mm model in either black, silver, red or blue from next month. ES17 The baby of today's three is the £89 Samsung ES17. Just face detection and beauty shot to play with but a reasonable enough 12.2-megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom. There's still image stabilisation, not that you'll really need it at that magnification, and although you'll get more functionality on a cameraphone these days, they ES17 will probably still give you a better picture. You get what you pay for. Samsung

The HDC-SD10 and HDC-TM10 are a pocket sized 227g, shoot at 1080p resolution and give you a very nice 16x optical zoom to play with. The only difference between the two is that the SD10 allows you to record to SD/SDHC cards only whereas the TM10 gives you an 8GB HDD on top of that. No word on the stills ability of these palm-sized pieces with just a 1/6" MOS sensor and a measly sounding 1.17-megapixel resolution but they do have scene modes plus an intelligent auto function (iA), so expect the same kind of usability you'd find in the Lumix compacts. AF/AE tracking will keep your subjects well lit and in focus and there's also the kind of face detection and face tracking modes you'd look for in all good camcorders these days. Perhaps one of the nicest treats, though, is the pre-record feature which will give you the three seconds of footage that happened prior to you getting your finger on the shoot button. It's all done through the use of the camcorders' buffer memory. It's not a lot but then, three seconds should be enough for pretty much even the slowest of wit. Shame it doesn't help if you've got the lens pointed in the wrong direction. Both models are out in June with the SD10 at £499.99 and the HDC-TM10 for £529. Panasonic
