What would Johannes Gutenberg think of the digitization of information? Maybe he’d be happy that more people than ever have access to essential texts and documents. But I like to think that if he were alive today, his printing press pride would turn him into a jealous, seething egomaniac who couldn’t come to grips with being upstaged by the computer. Once he came to his senses, he would embark on a journey to invent the greatest printer man has ever seen, only to fail miserably upon realizing that society is totally over paper.

‘Ok, hold that pose! Ah perfect, I can’t wait to see how that picture turns out’… This was how conversations about photographs were held until a few years back. Now however you stand wherever you want while the photographer zooms in or out to make sure everyone is in the picture, and when the shot is taken you can analyze it to see if it is appropriate or not. So what brought about the change in the conversations as mentioned above?. All because someone was smart enough to invent digital cameras.

Digital cameras have been a boon to all those interested in photography, and even for those who aren’t. As long as you have a memory card big enough to hold as many pictures as you want, and a cable to put the pictures up onto your computer, you can go places with digital cameras. There are some memory cards which hold more than a thousand pictures, and they can be used and reused, which means soon enough you will have a library of all the most interesting, or even every day, things that happen in your life. Today someone pulling a digital camera out of their bag is not even given a second look, whether it is in the local mall, at a friend’s wedding or around colleges.

The presence of digital cameras has unfortunately meant that professional photographer’s services are not needed as much as they were before. In the early days of photography, a professional would be hired for any major event – a wedding, christening, engagement, or even a party. Now however, friends and family are called upon to make sure every aspect of the important day is recorded. This has its benefits because for one, it is much cheaper, and also people do not feel awkward smiling into a camera held by someone they know, unlike in the case of a professional they may never have met before. Also because photographs taken in digital cameras need not be printed out, small time businesses that do printing have been hit hard. Photographs from a digital camera can be directly stored in the computer, and unless proper photographs are needed they can be printed directly from the computer itself, so the need to visit a shop for printing out photographs is pretty rare.

Newer and more modern versions of digital cameras come with additional features to them. Many can be used as video cameras, and some have the option of adding things like backgrounds or frames to them on the camera itself. These little things add to the variety of things that can be done on digital cameras. All in all, digital cameras are the way of the future, so go ahead… experiment with one!

Such a gadget will instantly emit a signal upon ejection from plane or ship when an emergency occurs.

Best answer:

Answer by aviophage
It’s called an Emergency Locater Transmitter, or ELT, and all aircraft have been required by law to carry one for about 30 years, now. So you’re a little late with the idea. Try an internet search on “emergency locater transmitter.”

I am thinking of designing one such circuit only that I have no clue where to start. If anybody has any idea please share it with me evn if it was only an attempt. It might just guide into doing something really important.Am a university student and I need that for my project work.

Unfortunately, these TVs aren’t any cheaper than the 3D TVs already available. I had expected China to invent some super hi-tech, low cost method to produce the TVs. Sad face.

The companies are Skyworth, Changhon, and Hisense. Sizes are about what you’d expect, in the 40-to-60-inch range, and prices are about what you’d expect, too: 55-inchers coming in at around $3,000.

Essentially a non-story, yes.

Look, if it were up to me, I’d sit here and talk about UFC and soccer all day long, all in an effort to bring some balance to iPadMania. By Evan Ackerman

It may not look like much, but physicists from the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany have invented the “perfect” coffee cup. Why “perfect?” It’s all about the temperature: this coffee cup is capable of maintaining your coffee (or any other beverage) at an ideal temperature for a full 20 – 30 minutes. The ideal temperature for coffee, incidentally, is 58 degrees Celsius, but personally I prefer to drink tea (not coffee, tea, thank you) at something closer to 59… Yeah, I like living dangerously.

The cup is constructed of a swirly looking aluminum frame covered with a ceramic material. The spaces around the frame are filled with a PCM, or phase changing material. PCM is super neat stuff that is only happy at a very specific temperature. When you add heat to a PCM, it absorbs it and turns into a liquid, kinda like wax. If things start to cool down, the PCM turns back into a solid, releasing the heat as it does so, doing its best to keep itself (and its surroundings) as close to that happy temperature as possible. So when it comes to coffee, the PCM will first cool the liquid down to the ideal temperature by absorbing heat, and then keep it at that temperature as it releases that heat. Best part is, it’s totally free, in that it’s “powered” by absorbing heat from something that’s too hot. And hey, did I mention that it also works in reverse? A different type of PCM can be used to stabilize cold liquids, too.

The only catch to this technology is that PCMs are temperature specific. So, you’d need a hot PCM cup for hot beverages and a cold PCM cup for cold beverages. And they’re not likely to be cheap:

In the meantime, it won’t be long before the IBP’s new table products arrive in stores. Their steep price tags should easily give them away. “We don’t know how expensive they’ll be yet,” Sedlbauer says. “We are already talking with different companies. If we can find a partner to work together with, the first mugs could already be on sale by the end of the year.”

I’d imagine that a steep price tag wouldn’t dissuade that many people from a coffee cup that keeps your coffee at the perfect temperature… I mean, you only really need one, right? And if you drink coffee (or tea, which is way better) every day, it’ll easily pay for itself in convenience. As long as they dress it up a little bit first, of course.
