App developers unite! Or at least organize yourselves a bit better

Posted by on Wednesday, 4 January, 2012

It’s only right that the creative individuals behind a multi-billion dollar industry should have access to their own professional body, but for some reason the idea has yet to take hold. That could change at CES, when Jon Potter — formerly of the Digital Media Association — will start selling membership to a new outfit called the Application Developers Alliance. His pitch will open with the concept that “there’s an interesting space in the application developer community that isn’t really organized” and then move on to offer services like an online collaborative network, shared product-testing facilities, discount training schemes and cloud services, and even government lobbying over issues like privacy and IP. Who knows? That sort of thinking could ultimately lead to a fully-fledged union movement to stand up to fat-cat platform owners and let them know who’s boss, but first things first eh?

Personal Audio sues Apple again, targets iPhone 4, iPad 2 and newer iPods

Posted by on Sunday, 24 July, 2011
Thought the Personal Audio / Apple brouhaha was over? Think again, because everyone’s favorite patent licensing company is back, hitting Cupertino with another suit. You’ll recall an earlier ruling by a federal jury in Eastern Texas found the CE maker guilty of infringing upon PA’s playlist-related IP with an assortment of older iPods. This new filing alleges that newer Apple devices, like the iPhone 4, iPad 2 and modern day iPods — which weren’t part of the original 2009 case — also violate that same IP, in a move we’d surmise serves to pad Personal Audio’s coffers. Not like Apple’s apt to feel the pinch should Personal Audio snag another victory, but hey….

Many Considerations Why One Must Reflect On Antivirus Firewall Software

Posted by on Saturday, 2 October, 2010

Reasons you need a Firewall

There is lots of information about antivirus firewall software on the web, however there are a few of the people who wonder if this is really necessary. They wonder if its really important to have antivirus firewall software, or whether it is only something that manufacturers simply put across to try to get you to spend your cash. The reality is that its critical to own software like this, and these are some of the advantages that having firewall software is going to guard you and your personal computer against.

This type of attack is really threatening because somebody tricks a PC into recognizing an interloper as a person that is trusted on the internet. It is doing it by using an address thats in the range of addresses in the network. In other words, regard it like someone that raps on your door and asserts they are your Aunt Connie. The IP is the identity of the PC. When a PC has antivirus firewall software on it, it helps to prevent these types of attacks and guards everything in the PC, including IP.

Between Attacks

This type of attack occurs when a person cracks the info that has occurred between 2 folk without the 2 parties noticing it. If the people are transmitting info with a thing known as public-key, the person in the middle is able to hijack the public-key, decipher those messages with it, make a copy, and then completely recode the info so that it is sent back on its way.

Attacks on Passwords

Finally, the most hazardous reason to have antivirus firewall software is that there are going to be attacks on passwords. Imagine that you’ve got a password for your banking and somebody hacks into it as you dont have a firewall. They can get all of your banking information and drain your bank account in virtually no time flat. These are some of the tactics that this is done :

Guessing: even though this is a customarily ineffectual method, if somebody is obstinate they might usually discover it eventually . This can be achieved either online or by hand.

Cracking: This is the most effective way that someone gets another folks password. The trojan gets the file for the password in Windows by utilizing an access level that is raised, and then the person uses something similar to PWDUMP so they can look at the info thats saved in one of your files.

The reasons that are mentioned previously are some very good reasons that explain why its necessary to protect your PC through the employment of antivirus firewall software. Even though you may feel just like you are safe and your personal computer is safe, the least risky way that you can be with your personal computer is by defending it and your info with the right software. Although it may appear costly, not having the right antivirus firewall software can end up being much dearer if you lose your entire bank account or you’ve got your identity robbed. So dont take a gamble.

Don’t worry: The Halo movie is still gonna happen

Posted by on Friday, 9 April, 2010

Whew, I was worried there for a minute. Microsoft has confirmed that the Halo movie is still in development, putting at ease dozens of people around the world.

The Halo movie has been in development since practically forever, only to be delayed, stalled, re-booted, etc. That’s usually not a good sign…

Microsoft says that it’ll make the movie when “the time is right. We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic.”

That last part speaks to me, I think. I was 15 when the first Halo game came out, and I’m pretty sure I would have been OK with the idea of a movie based on the game. Now? Ha! No chance, dogsie. I’d rather play the game (well…) if only because I know the movie will be pretty rank.

You young kids can let me know how it turns out.
