Oscar Nominated Logorama Short Film Takes Product Placement To The Next Level

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a little product placement in films or TV shows, as long as it doesn’t distract from what’s happening on screen. But Logorama, an Oscar-nominated short film by the French design collective H5, takes things to a whole new level. If you haven’t seen it yet I recommend taking a few minutes at work to check it out, and you’ll definitely want to watch it a few times if you’re the type who enjoys logo-spotting, since it’s chock full of them. In fact it makes me wonder why the trademark lawyers aren’t breaking down their front door…

You can watch a clip from the short on the Logorama – The Movie website, or check out the whole thing on Facebook. Just keep in mind there’s some NSFW language, and images that some might find offensive. (ie Ronald McDonald holding a machine gun.)

Uzi Flash Drive Is Just A Terrible Idea These Days

Machine Gun USB Drive (Images courtesy USB Geek)

Well you know the drill by now. Even though it’s obviously not even close to being as big as the real thing, you throw one of these Uzi-shaped USB flash drives in your suitcase before hitting the airport and you can pretty much guarantee your vacation or business trip is over before it even begins. So I’ll let you decide if the $22 price tag for 4GB of novelty storage is worth getting your name thrown on every watch list around the world.

Weaponized strollers aren’t for sale… yet?

Do you have a baby? If so, do you also happen to live in a post-apocalyptic neighborhood? I bet it’s tough to wield a machine gun with one hand while pushing a stroller with the other, huh? You may be the perfect candidate for a weaponized stroller.

It’s just too bad that they’re not actually for sale but, as with most products, if there’s enough of a demand then they’ll probably make it to market.

For now, though, these Rugrats-meets-Mad-Max strollers can be seen as part of an art exhibition in Milan, Italy. They were designed by Chinese artist Shi Jinsong, a man who probably doesn’t realize what a potential hit he has on his hands.

Ten Really Dumb Old Inventions and Their Really Dumb Modern Counterparts

Posted by on Thursday, 22 October, 2009

Hookay. So, you think that this M3 sub-machine gun—with a shoot-first-and-ask-later curved barrel—is a really stupid, really dumb invention, right? I don’t blame you. But, trust me, you don’t know what really stupid, really dumb inventions are. Yet.

I just saw a selection of 30 dumb inventions in Life, and I couldn’t resist picking my favorite ten. These things are so damn stupid they became obsolete before even becoming real products. It was hard to choose. After all, how could I leave out scientology nutcase L. Ron Hubbard and his Hubbard Electrometer, which in 1968 made him reach the conclusion that tomatoes “scream when sliced”?

See? Really hard.

Then I thought that these all looked weirdly familiar. I searched in Gizmodo, and instantly found their modern counterparts. Some of them make sense now, with current technology. Others, as you will see in the gallery, seem equally goofy. All of them, however, we can live without. Enjoy:

Clearly, humans are the only animals that trip twice over the same stone.

Life-size MP5 submachine gun Wii controller

gun

See that right there? That’s a Wii peripheral. If not for the blaze orange tip, one might mistake it for an MP5 submachine gun. Spotted at a Hong Kong trade show by Pocket-lint, it’s “a 1:1 scale Heckler & Koch MP5 sub-machine gun for the Wii.”

The plan is to eventually sell this in the U.S., although a price hasn’t been set. You can bet it’s going to be a pretty penny, though, as the gun features a built-in Wiimote, Nunchuck, MotionPlus sensor, rechargeable battery (via USB), speaker, and rumble support.

Part of me thinks that this newest crop of Wii peripherals (like the bike from yesterday) is just a test to see how much consumers are willing to spend on elaborate game controllers. I can’t wait for the first peripheral to come out that costs more than that Wii itself. That’ll be a sad and wonderful day. Probably mostly sad.

Wii Full-Scale Heckler & Koch MP5 Machine Gun Controller

Yep, another one to add to the ridiculous Wii accessories list. This time it’s a 1:1 scale Heckler & Kock MP5 that Pocket-lint spotted at a trade show in Hong Kong. The controller was made by a Chinese company, and instead of having to find a place to stick your Wiimote and Nunchuck, the machine gun contains all of that functionality, as well as MotionPlus and a rechargeable battery, built-in. There’s no word on pricing or availability just yet, but the version pictured above with the orange tip was supposedly created for the US market so it wouldn’t look real or anything.
