The Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4000t Printer – Powerhouse Printer

Posted by on Monday, 8 March, 2010

Not all printers are created equal. Some are created to be expensive, powerhouse commercial print engines. Others are meant for affordable home use. The HP LaserJet 4000t printer was designed with the homeowner, and their budget, in mind, allowing great print quality from the 4000t bulk toner at a manageable price. This article will detail the product specifications for this home printer to assist you in deciding which printer is right for you and your family.

The 4000t comes with a 100 MHz processor and a small 4 MB cache of internal memory. The production rate tops out at seventeen printed sheets per minute. This allows for a workload of 65,000 pages per month which is more than most homes need. Even though these numbers seem quite low, it allows for this machine to have low energy consumption and has earned the Energy Star rating.

While designed for home use, the 4000t is by no means lacking in media versatility. In addition to supporting letter, legal, and executive paper styles, support for envelopes, transparencies, labels, and business cards is preset. Three separate trays combine for 600 sheets of printing capacity across multiple types of media without reloading HP LaserJet replacement toner. In addition, an optional attachment can allow for duplex printing, maximizing the use and efficiency of materials and time.

With the 4000t measuring at 15.1″ tall, 16.9″ deep, and 15.4″ wide, it is small enough to fit on top of most desks. If there is not room there, you have the option of using a small printer stand. This machine weighs in at 45.6 pounds which allows most people to easily move it from place to place while being heavy enough to not move while printing.

The 4000t does not come capable of wireless networking right as you unpack it. But, it does offer connectivity options as it contains both an IEEE 1284 parallel port with serial connections. If you do have a network though, you can hardwire this printer. While hardwired with the host PC turned on and operational, it is able to act as a networking printer for your home or small office needs.

All of HP’s 4000 series printers, including the 4000t, are region- and language-specific. If your home country is not the United States or your native tongue is not English, the printer itself comes with different accessories, such as a language-appropriate console overlay and User’s Guide, to ease installation and operation. In addition, all necessary cables, a free 10,000-page print cartridge, and a CD-ROM containing useful print networking software are included with retail purchase.

This printer was designed with a low cost in mind, and it has succeeded. The retail sticker price is around $150, while refurbished ones can be found for under $100. The 4000t is both affordable in purchasing price and in operating costs.

While the HP LaserJet 4000t is by no means the most powerful or advanced printer on the market, that is not its purpose. It provides affordable and accessible printing to home offices. If this is what you seek, then the 4000t could provide the answer you need.

‘Inexpensive to operate’ can also be said when it comes to the HP LaserJet 4000t toner cartridges used. Obtaining HP LaserJet replacement toner online from many of the reliable vendors there will show substantial savings on every toner refills purchase.

Gateway One ZX series gets Windows 7 and touchscreen features

gateway

My gut reaction to seeing these all-in-one computers is that they might make a nice addition to a dorm room or an aging couple’s den. But then Gateway goes and says something like this:

“The powerful One ZC6800 Series is a no-compromise, high-performance configuration entirely suitable for serious gaming.” I roll my eyes and then look for the actual specs, to find…

  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 23-inch touchscreen LCD at 1920×1080 resolution
  • Intel Core 2 Quad CPU at 2.33GHz
  • Intel GM45 Express Chipset (ah ha! – that’s not for gaming!)
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 with 1GB DDR3 memory (whoa, curve ball – that’s for gaming)
  • 8GB of DDR3 RAM – eight!
  • 1TB SATA hard drive for data storage
  • 64GB solid state drive for OS and programs
  • DVD burner, card reader, 6 USB ports, eSATA port, HD webcam, Wi-Fi, Ethernet
  • Hybrid TV tuner with remote control, wireless mouse and keyboard
  • MSRP of $1400

That’s actually a pretty impressive list of features for $1400. Sure, it’s not exactly “no-compromise” and those of you interested in “serious gaming” would probably never be caught dead with an all-in-one computer but for anyone who likes the idea of an all-in-one but has to this point been underwhelmed, this configuration may be worth a closer look.

There will also be a more budget-friendly option in the One ZX4800, priced at $749. That one includes Windows 7 Home Premium, a 20-inch 1600×900 touchscreen, 2.1GHz dual-core Pentium CPU, Intel GMA X4500HD graphics, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 750GB SATA hard drive. So no SSD, TV tuner, or ATI graphics, but a much more manageable price tag.

Various configurations will be available in late October/early November, with the loaded-up configuration referenced in the beginning of this post due out “later in Q4.”
