Nowadays are very famous mini notes. To that group of the devices belong notebooks and laptops that are of half size. However, they are extremely powerful and at the same time very portable. There are a couple markets that offer a particular type of the laptops. To them belong the rural areas all over the world that are cut off from the new sources of information such as the most modern textbooks and the recent news. These problems can be easily solved with the help of those devices. In some areas where people are not able to afford purchasing the laptop. What is more, usually users have less computing needs in comparison with those that are offered by large computer manufacturers. In most of the reach countries people think that it is vividly important to provide every member with the computer usually two desktops and purchase smaller models the other members.

What is interesting, nowadays manufacturers of the laptops know how to combine high functionality and portability in small models. These models are small in size and at the same time are affordable for the representatives of all social groups. These ultra thin laptops are very attractive for the users because they can function on the same level as the powerful notebooks and laptops. Mini notes have larger screens in comparison with the mobile phones and PDAs but they are smaller than the laptops. If to talk about the price of the mini notes it can be below 100$. Besides, the manufacturers want to produce the laptop that will weigh less than a pound. Mini laptops are revolutionary and can provide the user with the permanent access to the internet, listening to the music, taking pictures and video. Mini laptops are perfect since they are extremely portable and at the same time are affordable.

Modern technologies made it possible today to cope with a lot of tasks at the same time thanks to the all set of functions offered by the laptop. Mini notebooks are presented by different models and every user can find what is the most suitable for him. Small laptops can be taken to the different types of meetings and to the classes since they allow taking notes very quickly. Small laptops allow the user running a lot of programs at the same moment. The memory capacity can also greatly vary but mostly it is enough to store different files. However, the most important advantage of the laptops is that they are cheaper in comparison with the fully powerful laptop. Besides, mini laptops are very light in weight and can be easily transported especially when you travel a lot and all the time need to take the computer with you.

Netbooks continue to soar in sales at the expense of the venerable notebook, according to a new report from DisplaySearch.

Revenues for Netbooks, or mini-notebooks, rose to $3 billion in the second quarter of the year, a leap of 264 percent over the second quarter of 2008, according to the new "Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report" released Thursday. With those gains, Netbooks now enjoy an 11.7 percent share of the portable PC market.

Though traditional notebooks still command an 89 percent slice of the market, their second quarter sales fell to $23.2 billion, a 14 percent decline from the second quarter of 2008.

Measuring 2009's second quarter against the prior year's quarter, sales fell in all subcategories of the portable PC market, including ultraportables and desktop replacements, the report noted. PCs in the 13-inch to 16-inch range managed to eke out a gain, but only measured against the first quarter of 2009.

The low prices of Netbooks appeal to consumers looking for a second PC and to those in emerging markets who don't need the rich and costly features of a large laptop. The market has also been buoyed by cable and telecommunications providers who have doled out Netbooks to customers who sign up for lengthy contracts.

Mini notebooks or subnotebooks are often reffered to as netbooks, and they are facing a fast evolution on the portable computing devices market. These netbooks are small, light and inexpensive laptop computers which have as main usages general computing and accessing web-based application. These devices are often sold as companion devices, and they are cheaper than laptops or common notebooks.Netbooks come in solid state flash, but also with traditional hard drives, which can range in size to fit every user. They come with USB ports for peripherals, and they usually integrate speakers, webcams, Wi-Fi and many other features. Life battery for netbooks can go up to 5.5 hours, and this is a real advantage for portable devices’ fans. Manufacturers include ASUS, Samsung, HP, Acer, and MSI to name a few.

Nowadays we all want fast and portable devices to help us with our daily tasks, and the netbooks are great for people who need this kind of assistant for their work. Buying a laptop is a pretty tough process, and maybe you will need some advice in choosing the best product for you.

We can now own a tiny laptop to carry around with us at a fraction of the price of a full size laptop and have access to the net wherever and whenever we wanted. Netbooks made a revolution, and if you are after one head out to GeekWithLaptop and check their tips for buying a Netbook.

Cheaper or faster?

That's going to be the burning question for computer shoppers perusing the aisles of electronics retail stores this fall. That's when the new line of notebooks powered by consumer ultra-low voltage (CULV) chips will start appearing in force. They'll be sitting right next to the trendiest offering in portable computing, Netbooks. Netbooks have come to be viewed as the best way to get cheap, portable computing, but CULV notebooks could change that.

CULV-based notebooks are poised to give Netbooks a run for their money.
(Credit: Macles)

Netbooks are mini-notebooks with screens between 9 and 11 inches, that have lower-power processors, and fewer features, but very attractive price points. CULV-based notebooks are ultrathin notebooks. They come with a more traditional 12- or 13-inch screen, but are also very low-power, so they have great battery life. Starting at $600 to $1,000, they'll occupy the price range just a step above Netbooks, which run between $200 and $500.

That's where the choice comes in. Will consumers go for a Netbook, which is less expensive, sometimes harder to use, but very portable? Or a sleek-looking notebook with great battery life and a slightly higher price? Just a bit more money could mean a far more fully featured computer. Who would still go for a Netbook?

Some analysts suggest many won't.

For its part, the provider of these ultra-low voltage chips, Intel, would prefer to steer people toward CULVs. Sure, Intel is also responsible for the Netbook phenomenon, but those devices carry much lower profit margins. Intel CEO Paul Otellini on Tuesday talked up CULV notebooks and their advantages over Netbooks, saying, "Now, if you want a thin and light notebook, you don't have to just pick a Netbook. You can pick an affordable notebook that has more functionality."

It's a gamble, but Sony is attempting to do what many Netbook makers wish they could do--introduce a higher-priced "premium" version of a Netbook.
An honest netbook, too, with an Atom CPU, Windows XP, and a maxed-out 160GB hard drive. Curiously, Sony appears to have been able to sidestep the “no screen resolution over 1024×600 when using an N-series Atom CPU” rule by offering a nice 1366×768 widescreen display.

And while the $500 price tag may appear a bit high compared to your standard netbook, I’d contend that the higher resolution screen, the island keyboard, and the nice-looking trackpad may be worth it for more than a few people. Though that tiny right shift key is going to rub some people the wrong way.

Sony DEBUTS HOT NEW Mini Notebook IN COOL NEW COLORS

VAIO W Series Ideal for Casual Computing and Staying Connected

SAN DIEGO, July 7, 2009 – Sony today took the wraps off its chic new line of mini notebooks- the VAIO® W Series.

Featuring an ultra-portable design, the W Series is perfect for using as a secondary PC, in any room of the house, for surfing the web, checking e-mail, and social networking.

The W model comes in three vibrant colors- berry pink, sugar white and cocoa brown. A more subtle shade of the exterior hue finishes the inside of the PC while the touchpad is lined with a splash of brightness.

“The W Series lets you quickly look something up online whether searching for a recipe in the kitchen or relaxing on your recliner- there’s no need to trudge upstairs to your office,” said Mike Abary, senior vice president of the VAIO business group at Sony. “And it’s sturdy enough for the kids to use, making it perfect for every member of the family.”

The W Series incorporates a high-resolution, 1366 x 768, LED backlit 10.1-inch (measured diagonally) ultra-wide display, making it easy to view two full web pages- no side-to-side scrolling necessary.

The model features an isolated keyboard with springy and responsive keys making it comfortable and easy to use. Its carefully designed touchpad and mouse keys make the PC functional and mouse movements easy to control.

The W Series unit is ENERGY STAR® 5.0 compliant, EPEAT Gold registered and incorporates eco-conscious features such as a mercury-free LED backlit LCD. Its corrugated cardboard packaging is comprised of 95 percent recycled content. Sony will also help recycle your old PC (www.sony.com/green; recycling fees may apply).

The model comes with VAIO Media plus Multimedia Streaming software, a media sharing application that lets you wirelessly stream content across DLNA®-enabled devices throughout your home network. Stream video, music and pictures from your W Series to your compatible primary PC or PLAYSTATION®3 and vice-versa and enjoy your content anywhere in the home including on your big-screen TV.

Easily transfer data, such as photos from your digital camera or music from an MP3 player, to and from the PC with the unit’s two convenient USB ports. Incorporated Bluetooth® technology enables peripherals such as a wireless mouse to be utilized without tying up the unit’s ports.

A built-in webcam and microphone let you video chat with family, friends and colleagues. A third-party internet service provider is required.

A roomy 160GB hard drive has been included providing ample storage for all your photos, files and videos. It comes pre-installed with Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition operating system.

The VAIO W Series mini notebook will retail for about $500. It is available for pre-orders today online at www.sonystyle.com/pr/w. It will also be sold at Sony Style® stores and at other major retailers around the country starting next month.

Digitimes is reporting that “Microsoft plans to redefine mini-notebooks that Intel has categorized as netbooks with a new term — low cost small notebook PC.” Oh that’s much simpler, thank you.

Microsoft general manager of the Application Platform & Development Marketing Division, Steven Guggenheimer said at Computex yesterday that “netbook” shouldn’t be used any more since netbooks can do more than just get on the internet.

Hey Guggenheimer, on behalf of technology bloggers everywhere, give it up. We’re not going to type out “low cost small notebook PC” when “netbook” has done just fine, thank you. Just because your abnormally long name is eclipsed only by your ridiculously long title doesn’t mean you need to drag us all down with you.

Some see this asinine strategy as a way for Microsoft to differentiate netbooks from mini-notebooks so it won’t have to ship as many cheap versions of Windows 7 Starter Edition. So only the crappiest of the crappy netbooks will get Windows 7 Starter, while slightly more-capable low cost small notebook PCs (or LCSNPCs) will be required to ship with a more expensive version of Windows 7.

More details are expected today as Guggenheimer delivers Microsoft’s keynote speech at Computex.
