Considered once the frontrunners to dethrone the rampant netbook category, using their nimble yet energy-efficient processors, consumer ultra-low voltage (CULV) laptops are already losing steam lately; High are two reasons for this: Intel, for starters, took its a pointer announcing its latest CULV processors, and prices for him or her have yet to go down. One of several bright spots is a Toshiba Satellite T235-S1350. While its dual-core Pentium CULV processor obviously isn’t as powerful since the latest crop of Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs, it shines brightly on the streets.

Design
At 12.7 x 8.8 x 1 inches, the Satellite T235 can be thinner than last year’s 1.4-inch thick Satellite T135. With a weight of only 3.8 pounds, the notebook is really light that many of us hardly noticed it when we carried the two AMD and Intel versions and their AC adapters in this bag. The Toshiba Satellite T235 looks like a much more expensive notebook. Its shiny lid (accessible in charcoal, red, or white) incorporates a subtle wave pattern overlaid in addition to a more subtle grid imprint. Although the glossy surface found fingerprints, they weren’t too prominent. The thin profile, which tapers from under 0.8 inches thick about the front lip just to over an inch thick inside the back, makes the system look extra-svelte. The keyboard inclines slightly for a much more comfortable typing position. However, the true star with the show is the chrome-colored deck, keyboard, and touchpad. As you move the keyboard’s keys and base are matte chrome, the palm rest and area above the keyboard possess a gorgeous shiny surface with a slightly rough texture, which Toshiba calls a Fusion chrome finish. We’ll just think of it as one of the best-looking and many comfortable. The touchpad sports an even surface that continues the Fusion pattern (which some will find to become little loud), while the two mouse buttons and front lip are a glossy, pattern-free chrome.

Keyboard and Touchpad
The Satellite T235′s keyboard is probably the best we’ve officially used on any consumer notebook, much more comfortable than that for the Satellite T645. The keys are generously spaced, offer strong tactile feedback, and also have no flex in the least. By using keyboard, we were qualified to achieve a score of 92 words each and every minute within the Ten Thumbs Typing Test, which matches our all-time high score. The 3.3 x 1.5-inch touchpad offered the best level of resistance, allowing us to navigate across the desktop with no trouble. It also supports multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom.

Display and Audio
The 13.3-inch, 1366 x 768 screen provided bright colors, sharp images, and surprisingly good viewing angles for your glossy panel. Even at angles of 45 degrees, images didn’t wash out significantly.High-definition videos looked fantastic to the Satellite T235. Whether there we were playing a 1080p WMV file from Microsoft’s HD showcase, a 720p file of an Formula One race, or perhaps a high-def episode of Fringe from Fox.com, images were sharp and detailed, while colors were the perfect temperature. Unlike several notebooks, videos about the T235 showed almost no visual noise, even during dark areas.Unfortunately, this machine’s sound quality doesn’t quite match flick. The T235′s bottom-mounted speakers produced a fair quantity of volume when streaming Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” from Slacker, however the audio sounded tinny

Ports and Webcam
For just a notebook this small, the Satellite T235 doesn’t skimp on ports. On its right side really are a Kensington lock slot, an Ethernet port, a VGA-out connection, head phone/mic jacks, and a couple USB ports. Within the left side are an HDMI-out port, a 6-in-1 storage device reader, and an eSATA/USB combo port for your total of three USB connections. The USB ports all utilize Toshiba’s Sleep-and-Charge technology, that permits that you juice your phone or Ipod there, even though your notebook is due to suspend mode.As with the Toshiba Satellite T645 we reviewed latest research by, the VGA webcam for the T235 didn’t impress. Another Skype caller said we looked “decent,” but which our face was obviously a little dark and blurry.

Performance
Almost all of the cost-cutting hails from the processor side. The system’s 1.2GHz Intel Pentium U5400 processor was at the low-end in the CULV totem pole, but i am not saying the T235-S1350 not a productive laptop. It’s heightened compared to aging Intel Core 2 Duos based in the MSI X420 and UL80Vt-A1. Looking at its Cinebench R10 (3,188) and PCMark Vantage (3,098) scores, you will notice a faster system compared to Dell M101z. The T235-S1350 runs on 4GB of DDR3 memory, it’s the same a good candidate for novice Photoshop users. As for 3D games, you’ll receive better results while using the Asus UL80Vt-A1 and MSI X420, since they both have midrange graphics chips; the T235-S1350 runs using Intel’s integrated graphics only.

Battery life and Wi-Fi
What it lacks in raw horsepower, the T235-S1350 accocunts for for in battery life?a hallmark of CULV laptops. It assists to that Toshiba threw in a big 61WH (6-cell) battery. The laptop’s 8 hour 16 minute battery score on MobileMark 2007 edged the MSI X420 (7:43), and Acer 1830T (8:13), and outperform the Dell M101z (4:30) by the landslide. It couldn’t maintain your Asus UL80Vt-A1′s bigger 84WH battery (10:10), though. Find more Notebook Review.

HP has launched a range of new economic laptop called the HP Mini 210. It is the successor to the Mini 110 was released in the previous year. There are not many significant differences between these two netbook. The newest Intel Atom N450 processor is used by HP 210 laptop. It also offers color lid options. Mouse buttons are pushed down the touch pad, fix one of the weaknesses of the Mini 110. It also uses optional Broad Crystal Accelerator, which enables video playback.

This aesthetic design includes gently curving edge HP lid, slightly rounded corners, a long narrow body and medium screen hinge. It comes with a default color crystal silver lid, which looked a bit plain. Red, Black or Blue color cover additional costs $ 20. HP Mini 210 outer casing looks similar to previous HP laptop such as the Mini 110.

Mouse buttons mounted on the bottom right and left corner of the touchpad, and entire pad pressing with every click that is same with MacBook. The touchpad design is also very good, which was similar with HP’s Envy laptop series. Touch panel has a better response. You can disable it if you do not use it.

HP 1030 is designed with a good laptop. Its keyboard and touchpad are very comfortable. Ergonomics of both a keyboard and a touch of the best. Laptop looks stunning design perfect complement. Laptop base price of $ 299 will include the same features as $ 299 laptops from Acer, Dell or Asus.

The keyboard has a good size Tab, Shift and other important buttons are very important for laptop small size .Keyboard chicklet style has been adopted from HP’s business line laptops like the HP Mini 5101 and 5102 models in the Mini 210. This keyboard offers a large, flat keys that facilitate broad spaces easier and faster typing. You can adjust the volume and brightness using the F1-F12. They serve an alternative purpose here. It weighs about 3.5 pounds including the AC adapter.

Since cool gadgets have always been our “thing”, we shall bring you the cool new gadgets that have recently appeared on the market and which would be fun and useful to have around the house. The first exactly may not exactly be fun, but it is surely useful for people that have a hand handicap. When you look at the Toe Mouse, it will seem like an odd and rather stupid invention. But it is actually a gadget that comes to meet the computing needs of people that cannot use their arms and hands to operate the mouse just like everyone else. Since people with this kind of handicap surely have a much better capacity of using their feet for different things, it will be easy for them to get used to this mouse.

This mouse will move around just like a normal mouse and it has the left and right mouse buttons. The thing is that this one is especially designed with curves to make it comfortable for your feet. This could be the first revolutionary computer gadgets from a great line of other to come that will help people with a handicap use the computer as well. I wonder how long it will be until they launch the keyboard which can be used with your feet.
Speaking of cool new gadgets, have you noticed how the bio and eco friendly products are more and more common on the market these days? I think it’s good thing, since it’s about time someone did something to protect whatever nature we have left. Another cool invention that follows the same direction towards being friends with the environment is the Bio Lite Camp Stove that can do two very different activities: the first one is, obviously, cooking and the second is… generating electricity. This stove has only 10 ounces in weight so taking it with you on every single camping trip may not be such a bad idea. In fact, you can take it with you even if you are going by bike or foot, not necessarily by car.

Due to the size, you probably won’t be able to roast chicken or make lasagna but this little gizmo can boil one liter of water in about 4 minutes so even if you are out in the woods, you don’t have to miss out on the delicious morning coffee. Just by gathering different small sticks, this stove can light up and get ready for used. When you no longer have need of its cooking skills, the left over heat can be used to power up your gadgets which is a pretty amazing function for a cooking stove. Thanks to the integrated thermoelectric generator, the stove can spin an electric fan and run off of the extra heat. The wood gas is separated from the regular wood and it is mixed with oxygen. I think this gizmo is excellent for people that love to go camping as it is one gadget which can be useful in so many ways.

Over the last year or so we’ve seen a lot of new HTPC controllers pop up from various manufacturers. It’s been interesting to see how each one decides to integrate both keyboard and mouse into a single device. There have been some that went the way of a touchpad, while others resorted to one of those tiny nubs that I hate so much. Well MSI thinks that you shouldn’t sacrifice any of the surface space for either such device. Instead, they installed an accelerometer.

The new HTPC keyboard features a full QWERTY layout, along with some essential media hotkeys to make your life easier. Youll hold the device with both hands, and move it around to control the mouse pointer. Your left and right mouse buttons are controlled via a pair of triggers, much like you’ll find on most game controllers. Look for it later this year for around $110.

Good for HP. But when you’re shopping for your next system, it helps to know how Brand A compares to Brand X. Our friends at Laptop Magazine have done just that, and put together a series showcasing the strengths and weaknesses of this brand versus that brand. Best part: regular users—like you!—are invited to give your thoughts, which will be compiled into a sort of go-to glossary. Good idea.

Being a Laptop Magazine production, the first round of ratings cover netbooks and notebooks. Let’s quickly look at Toshiba to get an idea of what’s going on. Also, I’ve never owned a Toshiba, um, anything, so it’ll be helpful for me, too. Yay.

• Only one out of the 14 machines reviewed by Laptop, one received a 5-Star rating (the Mini NB205)

• 43 percent of Toshibas received a 4-Star rating; 21 percent received a 3.5-Star rating; 29 percent received a 3-Star rating

• Picking a needle out of a stack of needles, it looks like Toshibas excel when it comes to multimedia playback, what with dedicated buttons and whatnot

• On the bad side, Toshibas apparently have rubbish trackpads and mouse buttons

And so on. There’s several of these ratings already online, including Apple notebooks, so if you’re either looking to kill a few minutes, or, gasp, actually learn a thing or two before whipping out your credit card, well, there you go.
By Chris Scott Barr

There was a time not all that long ago where Mad Catz was a brand associated with cheap gaming accessories that no one really cared all that much about. After the acquisition of Saitek, the company really turned things around. I had the pleasure of checking out their latest line of products, each one a quality piece of hardware. In fact, the first one I’m going to show you isn’t even related to gaming.

We’ve seen a number of solutions for controlling your living room PC and Mad Catz has their own. Under the Eclipse brand, the new litetouch keyboard is a sleek peripheral that wouldn’t look bad at all sitting on your coffee table. It’s a little smaller than your average desktop keyboard, thanks to the F-keys being dropped down and the arrow keys (and a few others) being brought in to the left of where they’d normally sit. If it’s going to be sitting out, smaller is generally better.

Where you’d normally find the number pad is instead a small LCD screen. When turned on, you’ll see one of three different sets of virtual buttons displayed on the screen. You have ‘number pad mode,’ ‘media mode’ and ‘MyEclipse mode.’ The number pad is pretty self-explanatory, as is the media mode. The MyEclipse mode has 12 keys with pre-defined icons which can be programmed to open an application, or up to three individual websites. There are also an extra 5 keys that can be programmed to do virtually anything else.

Also found on the litetouch keyboard is a trackball and left/right mouse buttons. After all, what good would a living room keyboard be without the ability to control your mouse pointer? The litetouch keyboard will be available this Spring in both wired and wireless varieties. Look for them at $99 and $129 respectively.

[ Eclipse ]

Remember that excruciatingly painful feeling of accidentally stepping on a LEGO brick in bare feet as a kid? Well I imagine you’ll be feeling the same thing in your hand after using this LEGO brick-shaped mouse after 7 or 8 minutes. But what it’s lacking in ergonomics and comfort it makes up for with minimal features including left and right mouse buttons, a scroll wheel and an optical sensor. ~$32 from Curiosite.
