Asus has the first Nvidia Optimus laptops~!

Posted by on Tuesday, 9 February, 2010

Kudos, I guess, to Asus, being the first manufacturer to incorporate Nvidia’s Optimus technology into actual products. The Taiwan-based company has announced five laptops (note: I refuse to use the term “notebook” when referring to laptops; I think the name “netbook” is dumb, too, so at least I’m consistent) that range in size from 13.3 inches to 17.3 inches, all of which use Optimus. “What is Optimus?” I’m glad you asked! It switches between the Nvidia GPU and the Intel integrated GPU as the situation warrants. So, using Firefox? Let the Intel handle it. Playing World of Warcraft? Nvidia takes over. It’s not too hard to understand.

The five models are: UL50Vf, U30Jc, N61Jv,N71Jv, and N82Jv. The photo up there is of the N61Jv. It looks the best out of all of them, trust me.

The N series is the multimedia series, and as such benefit from having beefier processors and GPUs. Like, all the way up to Intel Core i5 and Nvidia GT325M

Moving on: where does Asus get off listing the P7P55D motherboard as being “Crossfire compatible” when the second GPU slot runs at fully half of the bandwidth of the first? Granted, that’s 100 percent my fault for buying the motherboard, but it seems to me like it’s blant false advertising. “Hey, this has a cool feature, only it’s 50 percent what you think it is!”

Thanks, Asus. Now if I wanted to Crossfire this PC I’d have to buy a new motherboard! What a pain in the neck. Again, my fault, but Asus doesn’t help matters!

Nokia 5800 Website

Smartphone Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, earlier known as Nokia Tube, has attracted the attention for a long time and it deserved it. It intensified after the announcement that was made in the whole world by the company for this phone at the early October 2008. Public interest was fed regularly: the company presented this phone as a “Black Night”, they announced that sales will begin only in some selected regions. Perhaps Nokia 5800 can claim the title of the most expected phone of the year 2008.

First of all I have to say that this phone has a sensory screen. Even if there were some phones made by Nokia that had a sensory screen, for example 7700 or 7710, none of these devices were for the general public, these phones were some of the niche models. Therefore, Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is the first Nokia with sensory screen for a high number of people and a large sales volume. We may also recall that this phone was the first Symbian device with a matrix that was sensible to touch, and that meant a new era in the history of the platform.

Nokia has chosen to put this smartphone in the Xpress Music series, highlighting in this way its multimedia character and also leaving some place in the N series for a model with touch screen. The main (and only) material used in this phone body is plastic. The front side is made of shiny black plastic the contour and the sides are made of semi transparent plastic in a dark shade and the rear is the same as the plum color like the N73. At the junction of the rear side surface with the lateral sides is inserted a strip of flashy color (the standard set for the Xpress Music – red and blue). A certain passing between the color is missing, and also any combination between them, fact that you can observe in the day light.

Nokia 5800 Xpress Music proportions correspond entirely to the accepted widely standard, but the phone is not excessively wide. This is a good part, the device sits comfortable in your hand and you can manage it with one hand also (no need to worry if the phone will fit in a narrower pocket).

At the top part of the phone were placed the main connection of the phone (charger, standard headphones, USB) and the power button. In the left side of the phone you will find the slots for memory and SIM card ( SIM card removal is possible only by pushing it with the stylus trough a particular hole located under the battery). In the right side is situated a double key of the volume control, the lock slide button and digital camera button. Renouncing at any functional or contextual keys, Nokia has focused the essence of the management on the sensuous desktop. The image quality is high, the resolution of 640 x 320 pixels at a diagonal of 3.2 inches is noticed. Book light is sufficient to combat the direct sunrays, the view angles are large, colors are natural.

Its display uses a 16:9 ratio of the parties, which is reflected positively on viewing the media files. When viewing video, there are no black stripes at the screen edges, to view pictures also covers most of the screen, the free left space can dealt with virtual keys.

For a comfortable use, the manufacturer has provided a stylus, which lies in a part of the phone. It has rounded angles and is quite thin, so people with thicker fingers may face some difficulties. As an alternative to the traditional stylus, they propose a “mediator”. If it is attach to the phone with a braid, then it becomes like a manufacturer’s label.

For the energy economy and to prevent unwanted presses, near to the phone speaker was located a particular approach sensor : when you put your phone to your ear, the screen automatically switches off and gets locked. This lock is automatically canceled, is enough to remove the phone from the ear, that’s why the control problems do not occur during conversations.

As already noted, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is based on the new Symbian version – 9.4. Those accustomed to the platform of the earlier editions will notice that there are some changes in the interface. And indeed, icons and virtual buttons increased, and there can not be wrong presses. Only one theme is installed. It is combined with the colors of the phone, a standard thing for the Xpress Music series.

Nokia has used again components that were used in the previous smartphone – ARM processor frequency of 369 MHz. The decision to leave these technical components is somehow daring: sometimes the phone is blocked, these moments are observed while you play a game or watch a video (2-3 breaks per minute). The systematic restarts doesn’t always help. This was a problem of this phone – at the 10.0.4. software there were no such problems. The Bluetooth 2.0 module that is installed, allows receiving and sending data at a speed of around 110 – 140 kbps. Wi-Fi module sets available networks quite workable, after establishing the connection there are no disconnections. Starting and stopping the module occurs automatically: WLAN it’s included only when searching a new network, which saves phone battery.

We must understand that the 5800 Xpress Music is aimed at listening to music and watching movies not only by the owner if the phone. That’s why it has included in the phones box a special support which makes more comfortable watching a movie by more the one person at the same time. An important aspect of media functions became the synchronization with the Internet. This is manifested through podcasts and video channels in the phone, and by adding links to online stores, and by the opportunity to upload their own videos on Ovi.

The battery has the capacity of 1320 mAh and guarantees about two days of work. It is a worthy outcome, if we think about the large display.

Nokia 5800 website was wanted for a long period of time by the interested people.

Eventually, nokia 5800 website was released and you can find it at this address :

N95 And iPhone

Posted by on Wednesday, 13 January, 2010

If I had to describe nokia n95 and iPhone in some few words I could say that these are the most performance smart phones on the market.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

Nokia N95 is equipped with GPS, 5 megapixels camera with autofocus, 3G video calling plus almost all the gadgets available. But it is quite big and this is a disadvantage. But if you’re used to Nokia N Series phones the you definitely going to love it! Available in two colors (silver and black) for which you can choose the memory that satisfies your needs (4 GB or 8 GB). And what distinguishes it from other smart phones is that it performs the pest in terms of technical.

It is the most powerful phone on the market because of the built-in GPS, 5 mega pixels camera with Carl Zeiss and Tessar optics, Wi-Fi wireless connection to the Internet, 2.5 inch display with 16 millions colors and ultra fast data transfer HSDPA. Let’s start with the essential things. Nokia N95 is a 3G phone designed after the Symbian 60 series interface. Such phones tend to lock or switch off very quickly. These phones are large and heavy. The weight of 120 grams fits in the average of all smart phones models, N 95 is quite bulky despite its slide design. But because of its form and weight you will not forget in which pocket you put it! Nokia N 95 is equipped with key specially designed for the media functions. This is an asset is you like to have more keys to press but most of the times is quite confusing.
If you open the slide, you have access to the entire keyboard, but like the Nokia N 73, the keys are to small to be used easily. The first thing you remark at this phone is the display of 2.6 inches, 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colors. A light detector is incorporated to automatically adjust the screen functions. Nokia N95 has the best screen on the market and that you can notice by watching some pictures on it. The 5 megapixels camera, equipped with a flash and an autofocus is the most powerful on the market. The number of pixels that this phone contains, can  successfully replace a digital camera. Nokia N 95 has improved camera capabilities by using Carl Zeiss optics and Tessar lens, but they forgot to implement a digital zoom.

The video camera is also amazing, with VGA (640 x 480 pixels) and up to 30 frames per second. It also comes with a specially designed front camera for video calling. GPS is another interesting feature of the Nokia N95. In fact, the N95 has a built-in GPS system that communicates directly with the satellite. This allows you to orient in space. But to use the mapping service from Nokia, you have to buy a license. These are the surprising features of the Nokia N95. But, like any phone today, it has incorporated almost all the gadgets you can think of: music player that supports all formats, FM radio, integrated handsfree, speaker, polyphonic ringtones, HSDPA (the fastest data transfer) and much more.

When it comes to connectivity, Nokia N 95 surpasses any other phone on the market with its Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, Infrared, Wireless LAN, TV-Out and 3.5 mm headphone jack. 160 MB of memory is also more than acceptable but this phone is equipped with a micro SD memory card slot of 8 GB. The battery life is reasonable considering the multitude of the features that this phone has to offer you.

Apple iPhone 3G is a next generation phone that allows users to enjoy a very fast connection speed, image quality, features, media and an interesting design. iPhone 3G is a compact and perfect dimensioned phone and that’s what makes it very easy to handle. This phone is available in two variants in terms of internal memory and color (8GB – black and shiny or 16 GB – white or shiny black). Apple iPhone 3G has a built-in good sized screen with 3.5 inches diagonally and 16 million colors. It is equipped with 3G HSDPA technology whish allows users to surf the Internet with pretty high speed. This new model from Apple has built-in the EDGE and  GPRS technologies and this allows the transfer of any information. But another way of transferring information is represented by the Bluetooth and USB options. It also supports Wi-Fi technology.

Apple iPhone 3G has coverage on all GSM networks: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 and 3G HSDPA UMTS. Battery life is acceptable and provides up to 300 hours of stand by and 5 hours of talk time in conditions of 3 G and 10 hours in condition of a 2 G. It has an integrated GPS navigation system allowing you to guide efficient and fast. Apple iPhone 3G has a Microsoft support and has also a build-in function called Mobile Me that allows synchronization of the phone with other compatible devices. With a build-in iPod, iPhone 3 G can easily replace an iPod Nano. Therefore, the music function is outstanding with very clear specifications. The camera has only 2 megapixels but the quality of the captured images compensates for any deficiency.

The iPhone has some amazing applications. And you can choose from several thousands at the App Store what application you want and just download it with one touch. Another good element is the integrated GPS receiver, with support A-GPS which brings increased speed to detect points of interest. Thanks to a generous 3.5 inch screen with multi touch interface, the iPhone is likely to surpass even dedicated GPS systems. All these new features could not be placed in the same slim housing of the old iPhone. The company from Cupertino had to enlarge a bit the magic box. iPhone 3 G is measuring 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm unlike 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm of the first phone made by Apple

So which one do you chose between n95 and iPhone?

Spotify’s Symbian client goes on sale

Posted by on Monday, 23 November, 2009

Although Symbian doesn’t grab as much attention as its rivals these days it remains the most used smartphone operating system in the world with a huge installed base. Most of those phones are Nokia handsets like its N series phones, though Samsung and Sony Ericsson both have Symbian handsets in their range. The deal is similar to the Google/Apple ones in that Symbian phone owners can download the software and use it for free if they take out a premium subscription to the popular music streaming service.

Computers Just Got Shrunk And Smart

Posted by on Sunday, 6 September, 2009

The first hand held computer to be launched was by Casio with its Casio PF-3000 in 1983. It was a simple digital diary. The first pocket computer to be developed was by Psion in United Kingdom in 1984. Psion Organiser I had a flat-file data base, clock and calculator. It had no operating system. This marked the beginning of the emergence of an altogether new and exciting range of hand held computers called as Personal Digital Assistants, palm tops or palm pilots. Companies such as Apple and Palm Computing were amongst the first one to join in with their own versions of handheld computers. The most well know PDA was the Palm Pilot which was launched towards the end of 1990s. In 1996, Nokia introduced the first mobile phone with PDA functionality. This was called 9000 Communicator and became a top selling PDA in the world. A new category of phones emerged, the smartphones, such as the RIM Blackberry, Nokia N-Series and Apple iPhone.

The electronic devices have been rapidly displaced by a wide range of sleek and smarter portable gadgets. What had earlier occupied an envious place on the table has all been miniaturized into something that easily fits your palm. Earlier, the table was cluttered with a variety of devices for a variety of functions including audio, video telephony, Internet and many more. Most of these were too bulky to carry around. Technological advancement and technological convergence have rapidly cleared up the table combining the functionality of these devices into one so small that they can be held in your hand. These diverse portable devices, portable audio player, Ultra Mobile PC, portable media player, netbooks, smartphone and portable digital assistant combined a variety of different functions.

PDAs in the market come in different models and features. These include Pharos 535e Traveler, Palm Z22, HP iPAQ 111 Classic Handheld, PalmOne M515 Color Handheld, Palm Tungsten E2 Handheld, Palm TX Handheld, Nokia N810 Portable Internet Tablet and many more. You can know more by looking into PalmOne M515 review in the Internet for instance to get details of PalmOne M515.

The PDAs perform numerous functions and its functionality expanded with wireless Internet access or WiFi. Now you can conveniently download check E-mail, music and video, carry out web based transactions such as online purchase and mobile banking and many more. These portable devices can equally be used for entertainment, learning, work and play.

The portable gadgets have not only replaced electronic devices of yesterday rapidly, but actually made them look pretty clumsy. These electronic devices had occupied a pride of place on the table. But these have simply shrunk them so much that these bulky devices on the table are now palm held. Each of these electronic devices carried out different functions such as audio, video, telephony, Internet and many more. Many of these were too big to be carried around. Technological progress and technological convergence have not only shrunk each of these devices, but have put them all into one hand held device. With wireless Internet access or WiFi, it has become even more convenient to not only download music and video, check E-mail, carry out web transactions including mobile banking and online purchases but many more. These portable devices combine entertainment, learning, work and play.
