ICANN’s .XXX domain names have arrived, Frankie says relax

Posted by on Friday, 9 September, 2011
Let’s try to be sensible about this. When one or more persons love each other very much — no, erm, let’s start again. The controversial move to segregate websites of an adult nature to the .XXX domain has begun. The process is staggered across three months to ensure nothing untoward can happen. On September 7th, the 50-day “Sunrise A & B” programs began, Sunrise A is where adult website and trademark holders can claim their domains as the legitimate owner; At the same time, Sunrise B lets non-adult websites like The Weather Channel claim their domain names to prevent it being used for a very different sort of forecast. There will then be an 18-day Land Rush period, where non-trademarked sites can register and conflicts are resolved with auctions. By December 6th, registration opens to everyone — just in time for XXXMas.

Viera Connect Developer Portal

Panasonic has already lured some big names to its Viera Connect platform, like MLB and Hulu, now the company is opening up to smaller devs who want to see their creations blown up for the big screen without the aid of additional hardware. The SDK went live back in January, but now the company is providing an easy path from creation to release for its smart TV ecosystem. Of course, Panasonic still maintains final control over what apps make it to the Viera market, but expect new games and streaming video sources to start popping up soon. Check out the PR after the break.

Samsung Galaxy S II US carrier names revealed: AT&T Attain, Verizon Function, and Sprint Within

Posted by on Monday, 16 May, 2011

Anticipation, thy name is Galaxy S II. Or is it Galaxy S 2 Attain? Perhaps it’s Galaxy S 2 Function or Within, it all depends on what carrier you prefer, really. You see, the sleuths at Pocketnow have unearthed a silicone case for sale that lists those three names as the particular branding Samsung’s new flagship smartphone will enjoy with AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, respectively. That, combined with earlier trademark filings by Sammy asking for Galaxy Attain, Function and Within registrations would lead us to believe that we are indeed looking at the final product monikers. T-Mobile is notably missing from the list, but we suspect that may be because its variant of the Galaxy S II is materially different in design to the original GSII. The good news for everyone else is that the same silicone case will be interchangeable among AT&T, Verizon and Sprint devices, leaving very little room for those guys to screw things up.
