A quick update to yesterday’s story about new Seagate hard drives. We now have capacities! Seagate’s Momentus Thin series of 2.5-inch drives will stand at only 7mm in height (9.5mm is the standard) and come in sizes of 250GB and 160GB.
The drives, both of which purr along at a S-ATA-approved 3.0Gb/s, spin a 5400RPM. No, that’s not exactly super fast, but do keep in mind that they’re designed for use in laptops. If you need super fast hard drive speed, you’d better off moving up to a solid state drive.
This is but one new hard drive, and we expect to be be greeted by more once CES rolls around in a few weeks.
Infinity Ward has spoiled the hopes of Modern Warfare fanbois everywhere by doing their own pre-release unboxing of the special editions of Modern Warfare 2. A little weird having an unboxing for a game not coming out for another three months, but it’s worth it to see what’s in there. Sure, you got your special metal game case, your fun art book that you’ll read so many times, but the kicker is the functioning night vision goggles and sculpted head included in every “Prestige” edition of the game.
Considering a monocular night vision system costs at least $200 by itself (far more for a head-mounted binocular one like they have there), I’m guessing this edition is going to cost you slightly over MSRP for the game.
It’s cool, to be sure, but it’s like including a car with Need For Speed and then pricing the game at $29,000. These things are sold separately for a reason! And I play games with night vision in them because I can’t actually afford real night vision goggles, special edition ones or not!

The brutal yearly schedule for Need For Speed games has produced some excellent ones (Wanted) and some dogs (ProStreet). Need For Speed: Shift looks like a good one, although it’s far more sim-ish than the ones in the series I’ve enjoyed the most. I failed real hard at playing this thing, believe me, despite the promise of a BMW M3 if I played well enough. Greg did a little better, and if you watch the video, you’ll understand just how bad I must have done.
By the way, for the record that’s the game getting all blurry, not my camera.
