I can’t seem to glean too much information about this Toy Story themed CD player/radio from the RUN’A website, but since the squishy green alien characters became an instant hit after the first film, I doubt anyone will be buying this thing because of its tech specs. The alien’s head opens up to reveal the CD tray, while his collar and neck feature all of the necessary playback and control buttons. His ears also double as speakers, and while it’s not mentioned anywhere, it looks like his three eyes might actually open and close, though when and why I’m not sure. The only dealbreaker here? The $98 (¥8,800) price tag for something that only plays CDs.

Soft drink manufacturers have tried everything from celebrity endorsements, to super models, to multi-million dollar commercials to outdo each other, but little did they know the real secret to moving their product was this amazing magnetic levitation display device from Chinavasion. You just attach a special ring to the top of the can, plug the base in and when placed inside the ring, the can will magically float, making everyone realize they should be buying your product instead of your competitor’s. The Chinavasion site claims it can be used with bottles too, though I’m not really sure how the logistics of that would work given a can appears to just barely fit inside the ring. ~$55.

For real? What the hell, CTA? What was once an incredibly entertaining enterprise — discovering, trying and ridiculing absurd console peripherals — has just become an exasperating chore. We laughed heartily at your Wii bowling ball, and eagerly anticipated the inevitable living room destruction. We chortled at the somewhat amusing Wiimote football and its possibilities for foolishness. Then, you forced a weary sigh when you gave us the monotonous Wii rower with its limited opportunities for hilarity.

Now, you give us the fanciful and infuriating Wii Wings. According to the CTA Digital website, the Wiings will help unfortunate recipients “soar to new heights” of nerd-dom, before they undoubtedly get pummeled mercilessly by cool-guys and bullies. Maybe, CTA, blasting some flying stuff with your once-cool Wii shotgun will help us to forget about un-caging our incredibly lame “inner bird.” Until then, thanks for ruining what was once a favorite video game pastime. We just hope you’ll apologize to, and reimburse, all the poor kids who will inevitably receive this winged-FAIL from well-intentioned grandparents. [From: Engadget]

It’s that time of year again. Time to stay in the know with this year’s 2008 CES. Technology analysts, reporters, and innovators will be in Las Vegas exploring the wealth of tech gadgetry coming out this year. GPS technology has really taken off. I recently purchased a GPS system for a family member, and I could not help but be fascinated with how far GPS technology has grown these past few years. Laptops

HDTVs

High definition televisions will be quite the interesting topic of discussion at CES. If I had money to burn, a 150-inch plasma television by Panasonic might fit the bill. Where I would put it is another article in itself. By the way, the picture is only of a 102?, can you imagine a 150?? Just wait until you hear the price for one of these things.

The show will ultimately result for two things: announcements about new products on the way, and prices being lowered for currently available technology. In the end, it really is a win-win situation for all.
