If simply playing the hotly anticipated shooter Modern Warfare 2 isn’t enough, you might be tempted to shell out extra for the $149 Prestige Edition of the game (over the typical $59 standalone game disc).

Remember last week when we showed you that awesome Modern Warfare 2 bundle? Well we finally got a little more info on it. It seems that the “Prestige Edition” which includes the night vision goggles will retail for $150. That’s $80 more than the Standard, and $60 more than the Hardened bundle. What’s really interesting is that this particular edition will only be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Apparently PC gamers are too cool to get night vision goggles. It’s alright though, after countless hours of gaming in the dark, we can see just fine.

I always thought it would be cool to own a pair of night vision goggles. I mean, you could do all sorts of spy stuff, like sneaking around outside in the dark, or in dark rooms. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll be called upon to save the world by seeing things in a really dark place. Well if this has always been your dream, and you’re looking forward to Modern Warfare 2, then I’ve got some awesome news for you. You’ll be able to get both of these awesome things in one package.
The “Prestige Edition” of the game has been confirmed to contain a fully-functioning pair of night vision goggles. Yeah, these things really work. We don’t know anything about price, but with the “Hardend Edition” running $80, you can bet that it’s going to be a good bit more than that when it drops November 10th.

Infinity Ward has spoiled the hopes of Modern Warfare fanbois everywhere by doing their own pre-release unboxing of the special editions of Modern Warfare 2. A little weird having an unboxing for a game not coming out for another three months, but it’s worth it to see what’s in there. Sure, you got your special metal game case, your fun art book that you’ll read so many times, but the kicker is the functioning night vision goggles and sculpted head included in every “Prestige” edition of the game.
Considering a monocular night vision system costs at least $200 by itself (far more for a head-mounted binocular one like they have there), I’m guessing this edition is going to cost you slightly over MSRP for the game.
It’s cool, to be sure, but it’s like including a car with Need For Speed and then pricing the game at $29,000. These things are sold separately for a reason! And I play games with night vision in them because I can’t actually afford real night vision goggles, special edition ones or not!
