Nokia N9 user previews PR1.2 update, full of camera and imaging refinements

Posted by on Tuesday, 29 November, 2011

Many N9 users are still waiting to receive the PR1.1 update from Nokia, which officially began rolling out last week, but one lucky individual is already dabbling with what’s next from Espoo. After viewing the handful of screenshots, it’s obvious that PR1.2 will provide a number of enhancements for photo enthusiasts. For instance, the camera application sports a refined interface with all flash options visible at once. There’s also facial recognition in the gallery, along with support for color profiles in the display options. Additionally, users can now manage apps from the application menu, and keen-eyed observers will likely notice the re-styled buttons. We’ve also been told to expect changes to the N9′s default font, Nokia Pure Text, which we can only assume will make its arrival with PR1.2. Take a peek after the break to satiate your typeface urges.

Ice Cream Sandwich leak outs Music 4.0.1 for download, previews Google+ 2.0

Posted by on Friday, 7 October, 2011

A funny thing happened to the folks at Android Police, the same group responsible for leaking some of the first screenshots of Ice Cream Sandwich. They’ve since come across a few apps from Google’s upcoming release — purportedly straight from a Nexus Prime. The first is Google Music 4.0.1 — a marked upgrade from the current 3.0.1 found in the Market today — which sports refined tabs, a contextual dialog and new player controls. For reference, the latest version is shown on the right, which is most likely installed onto a Gingerbread device. Best yet, the APK is currently up for download (which you’re able to grab for yourself from the source). There’s also a sneak peek of the upcoming Google+ 2.0, which suggests Messenger (formerly Huddle) and Conversations will be renamed to… get this… Chords. Feel free to take a peek after the break, or check out the full gallery at the second source link below.

SHINY PREVIEW: Sony Handycam CX520VE

Posted by on Thursday, 16 July, 2009

I’m going to break this to you straight away. The Sony Handycam CX520 starts at around £1000. That’s for the 32GB SSD model. If you want the 64GB version, you’d better be prepared to part with another £200 or so. When I saw this thing on paper, I couldn’t quite see what all the fuss was about but as soon as I got the thing in my hand it was obvious I was playing with a top quality HD camcorder. What impressed me most about this machine is that the 3-way image stabilisation actually works staggeringly well. You can shake the thing pretty vigorously and the picture barely wobbles. The quality of the optics also sound pretty spectacular and it’s got all the touches you’d want like GPS and touchscreen too. A little surprised that it only records interlaced images before upgrading them though. One wonders how much more you’d have to pay for professional video cameras, if any at all, but ignore that thought and you’ll be really pleased with this one. Looking forward to a full review. SHINY PREVIEW: Emtec GBox nettop PC

Posted by on Thursday, 2 July, 2009

I very nearly walked out of a two hour press briefing from Emtec this afternoon. Sorry Emtec, I nearly did. You’re good people but it was too long for a man in shorts and flip flops when the air-con’s jacked up to Siberia. Thankfully, those that stuck around were rewarded for their patience with unveiling of a nettop PC to hit the market some time in the distant future. It’s a very similar proposition to the likes of the Acer Revo and the Asus eBox but it’s going to be around £20 cheaper and quite considerably thinner. Take a look…
