Last year, a group of disgruntled gamers filed a class-action lawsuit against Sony over its decision to remove the “Install Other OS” feature from its PS3 firmware. Last week, though, their case was dismissed by US District Judge Richard Seeborg, on the grounds that the plaintiffs failed to actually state a claim. In a ruling issued Thursday, Seeborg said he sympathized with the gamers’ gripes, but ultimately determined that they had failed to demonstrate any legal entitlement to the feature, thereby neutering their arguments. “The dismay and frustration at least some PS3 owners likely experienced when Sony made the decision to limit access to the PSN service to those who were [un]willing to disable the Other OS feature on their machines was no doubt genuine and understandable,” Seeborg wrote. “As a matter of providing customer satisfaction and building loyalty, it may have been questionable.” He went on, however, to point out that the users “have failed to allege facts or articulate a theory on which Sony may be held liable” post-PS3 purchase, effectively ending the litigation.

Is that regular ol’ Xbox 360 controller leaving you unfulfilled after a marathon session of Forza Motorsport 4? Don’t fret, Thrustmaster has announced the launch of its Ferrari 458 (F458) Italia Racing Wheel for Microsoft’s gaming console. The 11-inch wheel features a rubberized grip to stay comfy, built-in metal paddle shifters, a Manettino dial for mid-lap adjustments and progressive resistance to keep you on the straight and narrow. Not wanting to leave PS3 and PC racers in its dust, the company also revealed the TH8 RS gear shifter — which connects to the T500 RS or the outfit’s other PC wheel controllers via USB. This bad boy lets you release your inner Michael Schumacher with either H-pattern or sequential configurations plus 360-degree rotation adjustment to tailor the gearbox to your liking. Both the TH8 RS and the aforementioned F458 will be hitting your garage… er, game room in October for 0 and , respectively. Check out the full PR for the pair after the break, and make sure you fasten your seatbelt.

Last year DirecTV started offering NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go access even to those who couldn’t / wouldn’t get their satellite packages, and it’s upping the ante this year by bringing its slate of football games to the PlayStation 3. NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go is still a add-on that adds HD streaming access on PCs and mobile devices, however this year there’s also an app for the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Android tablets. PS3 owners can get in on the action either by adding the To-Go option or paying a flat 9.95 without DirecTV service. Of course, it’s still interested in enticing people to switch to the dish by offering Sunday Ticket at no additional charge for new subscribers — just ask fairy Deion Sanders after the break. No word on any apps for Boxee, Roku and the rest, but other new additions for the 2011 season (now that the lockout is resolved and it’s actually happening) include a new four channel mix with larger cells for those late afternoon games, and integration with NFL.com Fantasy Football that lets viewers keep up with their scores and players right on the TV.

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! Seriously, even a few Engadget editors are chortling in joy. PSN and Qriocity service has been restored in the Americas, Europe, and Asia and to celebrate (and soothe the seething frustration of its customers) Sony has launched its “welcome back” program. To be eligible you’ll have to have been a member before April 20th but, otherwise, it’s relatively qualifier free. Fire up the PlayStation Store and head to the “Welcome Back” tab to claim your pair of free games (you’ve got five different options on the PS3 and four on the PSP). In addition everyone gets a month of PlayStation Plus gratis and there’s a selection of “On Us” movie rentals available over the weekend. There are a few other freebies to placate the masses too, like 100 free items in PlayStation Home, while Current Plus and Music Unlimited Premium subscribers get a 60 and 30 day handout respectively. If you’ve got any burning questions yet to be answered, check out the rather lengthy FAQ at source link and enjoy! It’s not everyday that a company just throws open the flood gates on free stuff.

When I had the problem of running into my first PS3 glitch , I’d completely not the faintest idea that there were so many different errors and discrete codes for all these errors that plagues the PS3 console. The list is so lengthy that it’s almost scary as any of these glitches can crop up at any time.

But if you consider for a moment , the Playstation has come such a long way since the initial launch of the first Playstation video game console in 1994.

Today’s consoles have so much functionality – you can:

Play games

Listen to music

Watch movies

Have the capacity to operate a full-featured Linux operating system that changes your Playstation into a home computer

Go online

Play interactive games over the web

View photos

It’s not surprising that being the case that with the PS3 being such an advanced invention , so many possibilities can appear for things to go awry .

Nevertheless , if you are reading this cuz you have an error predicament, I know that it’s going to be of small comfort to know that scores of people just like you are encountering similar challenges . Not at all. It’s a bit like basking in the sun and having those infuriating pesky black flies continually disturbing you – it makes you despairingly want to squish the rascals.

When you encounter an error code, frequently it means that you can’t use your PS3 and hot damn is that irritating. And the peculiar thing is that with scores of people faced with the same PS3 Error Code on their Playstation console, you would think that there would be better online advice on how to fix the damn things. So it falls on folks like me to do our bit to lend a hand others by sharing what we learn and dig up.

Below I’ve presented the top five most repeatedly searched error codes with suggested troubleshoots for each. If you don’t find what you are searching for , swing over to www.ps3-help.com for more information.

PS3 Error 8001050F

Starting with the itchiest itch that so intensely needs to be scratched, it’s the PS3 error 8001050F:

Back in March 2010, there was a serious firmware fault that rendered fat playstation consoles around the world out of commission. The fault was determined as a glitch with the internal clock that induced it to think that 2010 was a leap year. When the network tried to advise the console that it was really 1st March and not 29 February, a leap year, fat PS3s shut down worldwide.

Luckily, this glitch was fixed and today, if you come across error 8001050F, it’s a Sony network issue and no more than that. It only means that the PS Network is briefly down.

The only fix is simply to endeavour to link to the network at a later time .

PS3 error 80010514

Next up is the PS3 error 80010514. This happens when your console is faced with difficulties with recognizing discs. That is to say you get no response when you load the disc apart from the error message 80010514.

The first thing that you should do is check for the obvious – is the disc that you are endeavoring to use clean or does it have any scratches or any other kind of damage?

The easiest method to verify whether the error is with the disc is to try another disc. If you are facing the same the error with all your discs then head over to ps3-help.com to investigate the speed of your Internet service . Many Internet Providers provide a free web tool that you can use to carry out a speed test on your connection.

Otherwise you could attempt to fix your own network. For instructions you can go to “System Settings and Software Download” page on ps3-help.com, and follow the step by step instructions for either wired or wireless connection.

PS3 error 80710102

Error 80710102 occurs when the PS3 system cannot connect to the Internet.

Some of the causes for this may be attributable to inaccurate data in the course of setting up your network connection. Or it may be because of a temporary glitch with the internet connection. If you are utilizing wireless equipment, this may be on account of a weak signal or, if using wired equipment, the problem could occur due to congestion on the ISP network. Try checking your network settings.

PS3 Error 80710092

Error 80710092 is also an online connection error. You won’t be in a position to link to the Net or the PlayStation Network, irrespective of whether it’s to sign-in, gain access to your account settings, link to a game online, or enter or buy from the PlayStation Store.

This might be due to a pre-arranged update or problems with your Internet connection. Visit Sony PlayStation’s Blog or the PlayStation Forums to investigate the status of the PlayStation Network.

If the problem is due to a planned maintenance, you’ll have to sit tight . If there’s no server maintenance, then try this – go to “Network” on your XMB, then select “Internet Browser”. Try accessing any website. If you’re unable to link to any websites using your PlayStation’s Internet browser , the issue might be your ISP. You will have to get in touch with your ISP for assistance with your Internet connection.

The troubleshooting guidance for the remaining top 10 most searched for PS3 error codes and many more, go to www.ps3-help.com.

You may have always wanted to learn a foreign language and if so then you could be very interested to learn about how a smartphone could help you. The number of language applications available on these devices is increasing all the time and the possibilities are truly impressive. Some of the applications which are available include phrase books and electronic dictionaries, but as well as those, there are also applications which can help you to practice speaking and which can help you to gather vocabulary.

The quality of the language learning applications that you can download for smartphones is increasing all the time. Foreign language flash cards on this device have been around for awhile, but they have evolved into multimedia programmes that can even test your pronunciation. You can also listen to video and audio recordings in the language that you are learning which can be very helpful. You can even read eBooks in the language that you want to learn on the iPhone.

There has never been a better time to learn a foreign language and these devices mean that we can pick up a few new words each day even if we don’t have much time. If you were to just have a look at them when you were on a toilet break from work, you would soon start to pick up the language. It is also great to play around with these apps during your commute; some of them are really fun and it won’t even feel like learning.

If you have ever wanted to learn another language then you should definitely consider it now. Check out which apps are available to you now and just use them for a few minutes each day. Even if it takes you longer to learn the language than you would like, you will still pick up enough of the vocabulary to be able to communicate with the locals.

Those people who love their Playstations will certainly know of the delights that may be offered by PS3 Jailbreak. The capability to load and play lots of software is the principle forte of this solution. Nevertheless PS3 Break is not the only magic a game player could use in his Playstation playing collection . One other product that may be regarded as indispensible is the R4 card.

PDP, known in the gaming biz for everything from PlayStation Move accessories to heart-shaped guitar-ish (and garish) controllers, has really pulled out all the stops with its latest. The Marvel Versus Fighting Pad is a wired joypad that sports micro-switches for the thumb stick and six front-facing buttons, which is what you get on most arcade consoles (and what you don’t get on cheaper controllers, so theoretically this should be rather nice). Available February 14, this bad boy will set you back . Right now only an Xbox 360 model is planned, but if it sells well they will also be bringing it to the PS3. And yes, that is a panel from an actual Marvel comic slathered all over the thing. PR, Video after the break.

Just as the original model of the PlayStation 3 was made available in a fancy shade of silver, so too is the newer “Slim” model. Let’s hope unlike last time this isn’t a Japan-only kind of deal! More »
