The specification will {probably|most likely|possibly|almost certainly|perhaps} {remain|stay|continue to be|continue being} the {same|similar|identical|exact|exact same} albeit with {different|various|several|diverse|distinct} {Wii|Nintendo Wii|Nintendo|Nintendo Wii console} firmware and {Software|Software program|Computer software|Software package|Application} which {would be|will be|could be|can be|is} in their {System|Method|Program|Technique|Process} update for {general|common|basic|normal|standard} release anyway. Do we want it to be true? Is T-Mobile really in negotiations with Apple to break O2's exclusivity on the Jesus Phone? In truth, I don't know, but a report on the Register says that's what's agoin' on. Now, bear in mind that this would only be a deal to stock the iPhone 3G and not the 3GS which only arrived a few weeks back. That's still staying with O2 only but I have heard some time ago that the deal between them and Apple is to run out in the next couple of years; 2011, I believe it was. The story goes that T-Mobile is keen to climb the UK mobile provider ranks from its current fourth spot and prove to the Deutsche Telekom bosses that it's worth keeping. Stocking the iPhone would certainly be an interesting way of doing that, providing that the UK market isn't already saturated with them. The deal would be attractive to Apple who currently rely on network subsidies to keep the cost of the iPhone as low as possible. Naturally, all parties have refused to comment on the matter apart from T-Mobile who called the report "merely speculation". It may well be but I thought you'd better hear it just in case there's a kernel of truth within. Wouldn't want to surprise you all with an announcement like that out of the blue. So, let's say it does happen. Good thing? Would you go for a 3G over a 3GS? Would it make any difference if it was the same price as on O2? And do you think it could spark a mini price war if not? Oh, it was only minutes ago. Nevermind, you can never have too many Android smartphone rumours on a Monday morning - that's what I always say. The latest company to eye-up Android, give it a sly wink and cosy-up to it is Sony Ericsson. And a Danish website has the proof - or so they claim. They've released a potentially leaked picture showing an Xperia-branded handset that supposedly will be running the Android OS. Codenamed Rachael, the smartphone is said to be powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and has HSPA. There is also an 8.1-megapixel camera, like the Sony Ericsson W995. No sign of a slide-out keyboard though.
On Tuesday we brought you news of the leak of the Omnia 2. This time the leak concerns Samsung's possible N97 botherer, the Louvre B7610. Samsung just can't seem to keep their developments secret - anyone would think that they were leaking them on purpose... On first glance the Louvre has a similar demeanour as the N97 or the G1, with the flip down keyboard - although I actually think the Louvre's keyboard looks better. It's got a slight ZX Spectrum look to it, with the red bits on the keys, and I'm all for that. The reported specs are as follows: Quadband (850/900/1800/1900 Mhz), GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA (3G+) to 7.2 Mbps GPS receiver (A-GPS) AMOLED Touch Screen size 3.5 inches with 800 x 480 pixels (WVGA) and 16 million colours 5-megapixel digital camera FM radio 1 GB built in memory - expendable to 32GB using MicroSD. Bluetooth 2.0 Wi-Fi 802.11b/g MiniUSB 2.0 Accelerometer 500 mAh Lithium-Ion 1 battery Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional - Possibly upgradable to 6.5 Dimensions: 11.2 x 5.8 x 1.6 cm The phone should retail in Europe from between €250 and €500. Until we've got the phone in our hands, however, it's difficult to really judge whether or not this phone is really a threat to the N97. What is clear is that if it wants to compete, it has got its work cut out.
A video showing what could well be the new Omnia offering from Samsung, or the GT-I8000 to give it its technical title, has emerged in webland. The details are a bit patchy, nothing has been confirmed officially as of yet, but hey, it's different to the iPhone and varIety is the spice of life and all that. Murmurs suggest a launch date of 15th June. Probable spec is a 3.7-inch WVGA 800 x 480 touchscreen, possibly with an AMOLED panel, an 8.1-megapixel camera (take that, Apple) with dual LED flash and VGA video recording at 30fps. It should have 3G, UMTS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and miniUSB. It should also boast GPS and a microSD card slot. There's a bit of debate going on regarding the UI. The video suggests a new cubic style setup, still using Windows Mobile though. It looks pretty decent and, on paper, the spec looks like it could be considered as a possible iPhone rival. But we all know it won't really worry Jobs, Schiller and the gang. Rumours of an Android based Walkman and also a personal navigation device (PND) are true, according to an analyst speaking to Japan's Nikkan and should hit the market next year. The thought of two of the biggest tech institutions teaming up may seem terrifying for some but it could be great news for consumers. With Sony already attempting to connect the user experience between its existing products, the possibilities when you throw Android into that mix could be monumental.
Reports from Japan indicate that Sony are looking at more than just mobile phone handsets in terms of utilising Google’s open source operating system, Android. Rumours of an Android based Walkman and also a personal navigation device (PND) are true, according to an analyst speaking to Japan’s Nikkan and should hit the market next year. The thought of two of the biggest tech institutions teaming up may seem terrifying for some but it could be great news for consumers. With Sony already attempting to connect the user experience between its existing products, the possibilities when you throw Android into that mix could be monumental. Well that certainly is the rumour. It all seems to have started after Macquarie Research said: "We expect Nintendo to learn its lessons from last year and provide more gamer-centric announcements at E3 such as a new Zelda or Mario title for the Wii." Which certainly doesn't sound to us like good solid fact-based information - it sound suspiciously like speculation. But well founded and oddly business-like speculation. But that's the thing about speculation, it's awfully exciting, sometimes more exciting than when the product actually arrives. And you can't deny, it would make sence to release a new Mario and/or Zelda game. It's been two years since Mario Galaxy made its welcome appearance. Nintendo need to understand - people need more Mario. I need more Mario. We all, need, more, Mario. Come on guys - let's have a Mario Party! No? Just me? And Mario...Not you Luigi. Nobody needs more Luigi.
