I have to give the designers at MUJI credit since I don’t think I’d have ever thought about using LEGO in such a unique way as this. The two companies have created a small collection of new LEGO sets that not only come with a set of trendy colored LEGO blocks, but also a special LEGO-stud-sized hole punch allowing you to combine the blocks with paper in unique and totally original ways. The sets will be available in Japan on November 27th, but unfortunately there’s been no news regarding whether they’ll ever be available in Europe or the U.S.

More Bars, Less Security, in More Places: AT&T can’t keep out script kiddies UPDATE

Kevin’s new phone

There’s a guy named Kevin Mitnick who, once upon a time, was public enemy number one when it came to computer crime. Mitnick has turned over a new leaf and is now a computer crime consultant and, apparently, his disloyalty to the script-kiddie credo has made him a target for hackers.

These hackers are attacking Mitnick’s account with relative impunity and posting his account info almost daily. As a result, his webhost and AT&T have knocked him off their networks. As Kevin notes:

“They can’t seem to secure my account,” Mitnick told The Register. “And then instead of doing something about it, they try to kill the messenger and want to boot me off their network when all I want them to do is to secure my account so no one gets access to my phone records.”

One would assume that Mitnick has some fairly good protection put up around his private information and it’s clear that AT&T is the semi-truck-sized hole in his armor. If hackers can get Kevin Mitnick’s information while AT&T sits blithely by and eventually decides rather than fixing the problem they oust him, then I can only imagine that our information is probably in boxes in front of a AT&T store in Scranton with the words “PRIVATE CUSTOMER INFORMATION DO NOT DISPOSE” written on them.

UPDATE – AT&T responds:

We investigated Mr. Mitnick’s claims and determined they were without any foundation. We refused Mr. Mitnick’s demands for money, but did offer to let him out of his contractual obligations so that he could find a carrier that he would be comfortable with.

Elonex introduces the eBook in partnership with Borders

Elonex has teamed up with bookshop giant Borders to launch the eBook. Or the eBook 600EB to give it its full title. The partnership with Borders means that the eBook comes pre-loaded with 100 “all-time classics”. Presumably Napper Goes For Goal is one of the classics included – it is the greatest story ever told. The Borders’ e-book store has an additional 45,000 titles available to download. The eBook is only 9mm thick and weighs just 180g. It has a 6-inch e-ink screen which can display eight different font sizes. It also has an SD card slot which can support up to 4GB. Elonex sells an accessory pack for the eBook for £29 which has a 4GB card as well as a leather case. Alternatively just buy a 4GB SD card from Play.com for £6.49. Elonex states that, with a 4GB SD card in place, the eBook can hold 8,000 books. “With 8,000 books weighing the same as an elephant,” they say. “How else are you going to fit 8,000 books in your suitcase?” Quite why you’d need 8,000 books on you is open to debate though. Surely only Holly from Red Dwarf and, perhaps, Will Self have read 8,000 books. Sorry if this post came off a little unenthusiastic, it’s just that with every e-book release, the giant Kindle sized hole in the UK becomes even more apparent. The Elonex eBook will cost you £189.95 and will be available here very soon. (via T3)
