Das Keyboard Model S mechanical keyboard heads to the Mac this April

Posted by on Tuesday, 17 January, 2012

We just got a look at one new mechanical keyboard designed for Macs at CES last week (Matias’ Tactile One), and now we have word of another option for those who take their typing seriously. Das Keyboard confirmed today that a Mac version of its Model S Professional keyboard will be available on April 15th, and that you can pre-order it now for 3 (a 15% discount off its list price). It brings with it the same gold-plated mechanical key switches found on the existing Model S, but with the additional of all the keys you’d expect on a Mac-specific keyboard — plus some other bonuses like a two-port USB hub and an instant sleep function. Unfortunately, Mac users looking to go truly minimalist with an Ultimate edition will either have to wait and hope that one’s coming or break out some black paint.

$100 Kobo Touch with Offers ships in ’2-3 weeks,’ serves you ads between reads for a one-time discount

Posted by on Saturday, 12 November, 2011
Well, would ya look at this? Apparently, Kobo’s unceremoniously launched a new variant of the Touch eReader on its webstore — this time “with offers,” priced at .99 (down from the regular’s 0). According the company, this six-incher is identical to its original Kobo Touch, but will display advertisements when you’re not reading — namely, while it’s off, in sleep mode and across other “discreet” areas when it’s on. Notably, the device is only available in black and currently unavailable for pre-order, although Kobo’s listed it as “shipping within two to three weeks.” There’s no word on what sorts of “sponsored content” you can expect to see, but we’d bet that Amazon-related items won’t be on the table. Ad-tolerating eBook aficionados will find all the details at the source link below.

Acer Aspire Ultrabook S3 officially announced, starts at 799 euros

Posted by on Friday, 2 September, 2011
And the march of the Ultrabooks continues. Following on the heels of Toshiba and Lenovo, Acer just announced the Aspire S3 at its IFA press conference — confirming that unequivocal leak we spotted earlier a few days ago. The machine, made of magnesium-alloy, measures an anorexic 13mm thin and weights just 140kg. We’re told it promises not just instant on access, but near-instant connectivity — Acer says it will wake from sleep in 1.5 seconds and register and connect to hotspots in about two. Other specs include a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) display, ultra low voltage Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs, a choice of solid-state storage or HDDs, Bluetooth 4.0 and a vent-free bottom so that you’re not left with first-degree burns. Depending on the configuration, the battery life is rated for up to seven hours or up to 50 days in sleep mode. So far we’re just hearing European pricing (€799 to €1,199), though Acer confirms it’ll arrive stateside by the end of September.

Toshiba acknowledges Thrive’s sleep addiction, fix apparently in the works

Posted by on Tuesday, 19 July, 2011

Has your Thrive been acting more like sleeping beauty, and less like the tablet you paid for? Before embarking on a mythical tale, whereupon you eventually find its more charming compatriot, know help from Toshiba is forthcoming: “We’re aware of the issue and are working on a fix.” No further details on when it’ll land, or what exactly it’ll fix, but if you’re anything like us, you’re just happy it won’t end up where another Tosh tablet did — in eternal slumber.
