Lexmark Optra T644 Printer, A Brief Summary

Posted by on Wednesday, 7 April, 2010

This review will be looking at the Lexmark Optra T644 printer using Lexmark Optra T644 toner. This is a great monochrome laser printer that will fit the requirements of small businesses and workgroups. It is not easy to choose a printer that fits your requirements. Not because there are not enough printers, but because there are too many. The variety of features, specifications and sheer number of companies that provide them makes finding the right printer like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack. Only in this case, it is a stack of many other needles that all look alike.

Lexmark has done a great job of providing a great basic printer with excellent performance on the important features and the possibility of buying all the nice extras if the client really wants them. The box standard model is selling for around $695. We will look in more detail at the basic model and provide some information on the extra features available.

This printer is a dedicated monochrome laser printer. It is fast and designed for networking. If you have a small office that needs a printer server this might be the unit you are looking for. It has a 514 MHz processor that will be able to handle the printing requirements of the busiest of offices.

This printer is a dedicated monochrome laser printer. It is fast and comes with high resolution printing. This means it is an ideal printer for a small to medium office that prints mainly documents and does not need a color laser printer. The processing speed of its chip is 514 MHz, which is great for helping with complex images and dealing with heavy printing queues.

This printer can be used on a variety of sizes and media types. It can handle vinyl labels, transparencies, envelopes and even polyester labels. It can also print on any size up to Folio which is 8.5 inches x 13 inches.

The media feeders are composed of a large auto load tray of 500 sheets and a smaller 100 sheet multipurpose tray. This might be a little small for a workgroup or office, but it is not an issue because you can easily order an extra tray to handle your specific requirements.

The networking capabilities that come with this printer are acceptable, but some offices might want to think about investing in extra features if a good workgroup network is a priority. This is actually a good idea in order to make the most of the excellent processor and RAM memory features that come with this model.

The Lexmark Optra T644 printer is a great option for a busy small to medium office. It offers fast, high quality results at a very affordable price when compared to other models. The other great plus is that it comes with a very fast processor and a large RAM capacity. This will allow for multiple jobs to be sent to the printing queue, always an issue with some workgroup printers.

Never an issue is how your prints will look with Lexmark Optra T644 toner cartridge.  Precise graphics and clear text are provided with Lexmark cartridges.  Internet merchants offer great deals on toner and are worth looking into.

The red TomTom EASE is probably meant to be a Valentine’s Day gift because it’s red

It’s probably a safe bet that nearly every retailer and consumer electronic manufacturer forms a committee with the sole purpose of exploiting Valentine’s Day. We’ve  already seen the Nook Valentine’s Day edition today and now it’s TomTom’s turn with the red EASE GPS unit. Because nothing says love like a cheap personal navigator. I kid, I kid.

Really the only difference between this special edition EASE and the standard model is the colored bezel. That’s it. It’s still a very basic, but still functional, GPS until with a MSRP or $149 but available online exclusively at Amazon for $119.

Gamers who’ve always wanted to own a PSP in pink, here’s your chance: Sony Computer Entertainment Japan today announced [JP] exactly that, a limited edition of their handheld system in so-called blossom pink. Needless to say that technically, this pink PSP 3000 isn’t different from a standard model.

And Japan’s Jacko fans can soon lay their hands on a special PS3 bundle [JP] that includes a Blu-ray of said documentary.

Priced at $350, the “Michael Jackson – This Is It Special Pack” will be available in Japan starting January 27.

Rolls-Royce joins Volvo in exclusive club

The 2010 Rolls-Royce model line has something very distinctly in common with all new Volvos. It has nothing to do with the engines, safety ratings, comfort, or design. Nope, none of that. Any guesses?

Rolls-Royce joins Volvo as the only manufacturers to offer HD radio as a standard feature in every model. Of course that’s only the new Ghost and three different variants of the Phantom. Previously HD radio was only an option, but someone high-up in Rolls-Royce probably enjoys listening to AM HD radio and wanted to make sure everyone had access to it.

Mercedes-Benz also is slowly rolling out the radio option and it’s a standard option in many model’s premium feature packages and Audi previously stated that that by 2011 all models will have it as well.

The HP Envy 15 Beats Edition blazes its own path

The HP Envy 15 Beats Edition is noice. Look at that beast. You have to respect the matte black on black styling. Apple fanboys can’t say anything about this edition of the HP Envy looking like their MBPs. The Beats Edition looks better. Too bad it suffers from all the downfalls found in the Envy series and carries a $500 premium. At least it comes with the Beats headphones.

Exact specifications aren’t listed just yet, but it’s likely that HP will pack this special edition with the same Core i7, Mobility Radeon HD 4830 system found in the standard Envy 15. This model has the same October 22nd shipping date, but will carry a $2,299 price tag. Worth the extra coin? Hip-hop wannabes probably think so.

This guy is building Top Gear’s James May a Lego house

legohouse

We’re normally not too keen on Lego stuff, but we’ll make an exception in the interest of camaraderie. Plus, it involves James May from Top Gear, a show we can all get behind (even if I don’t know a darn thing about cars!). Right, so architect Barnaby Gunning designed a real house out of Lego. No, not a “Lego house,” that is, a Lego house for Lego people, but a real, human-livable house made out of Lego. Indeed.

The story goes that James May, the shaggy haired Top Gear presenter, put the word out the he wanted a Lego house built; he’d then live in it. That’s where Mr. Gunning comes in, bringing his University College London knowhow to the project.

A highlight from a recent Oobject interview:

Oobject: One of the problems with giant Lego structures we’ve seen before is that they look nasty because the designs are literal and figurative, like something from a model village. How did you manage to get the Lego house to actually look interesting architecturally?

BG: Largely that was a result of James May being on the same page as us. James realized the kitsch potential from the get go and specifically asked that we didn’t just build an overgrown standard model.

That’s the key, I guess. Not to build a merely shoddy Lego house, but to live up to James May’s infatuation with kitsch (and driving slowly and prudently).
