CrunchDeals: Left 4 Dead 2 for $28 on PC, $35 on Xbox 360

Posted by on Thursday, 21 January, 2010

l4d2 Zombies. Scary as hell, my main man. But unlike aggressive aliens with advanced technology, a war against zombies is a war that can ultimately be won. Sure, they have strength in numbers but their overall intelligence and mobility is greatly diminished due to their undead state.

In preparation for a real-life zombie attack, you can get the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 for $28 or the Xbox 360 version for $35 – today only.

If you’re a stickler for plotlines, here’s what’s happening:

Left 4 Dead 2 is set at roughly the same time as the original – just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants. Players assume the role of four new “Survivors,” each with their own personality and new dialog. The game leads these “Survivors” through the southeastern region of the US – from Savannah, Georgia through the bayou country, and climaxing in New Orleans’ French Quarter.

So there you have it.

VIDEO: Vioguard self-sanitizing keyboard uses UV light to kill germs

Posted by on Monday, 12 October, 2009

Short of just building a keyboard entirely of Purell, this is probably the next best thing. Priced at $899, you’ll probably never see the Vioguard self-sanitizing keyboard in your own home (unless you’re really a stickler for cleanliness) but it may find a home in various laboratories or other locations where proper disinfection is a top priority.

The keyboard automatically emerges and retracts from a housing containing a cleaning system that uses ultraviolet light to kill germs. When a user approaches the keyboard, a sensor similar to those found on touchless faucets makes the keyboard slide out for use and when the user walks away, the keyboard retracts into the housing to be cleaned.

Currently available only in Canada, although for the US “it is currently designated as an investigational device… pending U.S. Food & Drug Administration clearance.”

CrunchDeals: Roomba 535 for $150

If you’re a stickler for clean floors (note: I am not) but you can’t afford a live-in maid to clean them every day (note: I can not) and you’re not afraid of robots (note: I am, deathly) then perhaps you need a Roomba.

Woot.com has the iRobot Roomba 535 for $149.99 with $5 shipping. That, my friends, is an excellent deal as this unit goes for $250 and up just about everywhere else. This is a new unit that Woot’s selling, too, not a refurb.

The 535 comes with a recharging station so it’ll clean the floor and then find its way back to said station when it’s all done. It also comes with a “Virtual Wall Lighthouse” which is a little base unit you put on the floor next to a doorway to keep the Roomba in a certain room while blocking off other areas of your house.
