Siri hasn’t been caught cooking dinner yet, but hackers worldwide have boldly taken Apple’s personal assistant to a whole new level by incorporating its functionality with a plethora of different devices. We’ve seen Siri use custom commands, change the temperature in your house, and even allow select car owners to utilize their automobile’s Bluetooth integration. Nifty, no doubt, but this assistant’s evolution towards greater heights isn’t over yet. Vimeo user toddtreece has whipped up a slick demo of the iPhone 4S’ right hand gal (or guy) taking command of his television set. From changing channels to turning off devices, with the help of a proxy and a few parts, you can get your own home setup running on voice activation. Feeling a bit guilty for your sudden interest in slothfulness? Fret not — Siri’s apparently quite good at calling you out. Have a look just after the break.

	[Thanks, Jesse]

Far from sneaking in to the living room, Vestel had a BitTorrent Certified television on display at IFA 2011 this past week. That official stamp means it packs the usual suite of connected TV features including playing local media across the network, and it’s guaranteed to work with BitTorrent approved files from the internet. There’s no word on any official release for this prototype — and we haven’t been able to locate anyone who got a hands-on demo, let us know if you saw it — but it definitely shows how BitTorrent is trying to expand its platform in a manner similar to DivX and XBMC / Boxee. Check out the press release after the break, we’ll be sitting back and watching some totally legal content we just torrented.

193,000 people quit their paid television plans last quarter. Sounds like a lot, and it is! But as any horse-breeder will tell you (I would guess?): it’s about quality, not quantity. And the people leaving cable behind, GigaOm reports, aren’t the ones the cable companies care about. While high-value consumers—the folks who’ll shell out for multiple DVR boxes and fire up the VOD services—are staying and paying, it’s the basic cable grunts who are saying goodbye.

Appliances are considered an investment at home especially that they come with a price. These precious appliances of the homes are computers, kitchen electronics, and the most well-liked of the media set – television.

In buying your television, it is not enough that you merely pick based on its size or on how awesome its exterior is. There are more technical factors you should realize in order to acquire the best acquisition on TV. Let me present you those five things you ought to understand in advance about them.

Response or Reaction Time
The standard response or reaction time for liquid crystal display or LCD TV, as we know it, is about 8 milliseconds or equal to 60 hertz refresh rate. Response time determines how immediate a pixel on the screen changes its color, as from black to white. A quick reaction time produces clear image displays even on fast-moving films on your monitor.

The explanation why some TVs get fuzzy or crop judder or sudden jerk is because they have slower refresh rate. They fail to produce a superior coverage of a show like a sports tournament like the Grand Prix. What they somewhat show are “motion lags” being not capable to maintain with the swift of motion of event.

Previous televisions has 16 milliseconds reaction time as a standard. But with the expanding technology, present manufacturers are skilled to make LCD TVs with a quicker reaction rate of 8 milliseconds or 120 hertz. But of course, these new models cost a little above the normal ones.

Television Resolution and Picture Quality
Together with response time, you should also find out your televisions’ capacity to display quality pictures or resolution. The resolution will determine how the details of the images are being displayed compared with other images in the screen. This is the cause why most people turn now to High Definition TV or HDTV as it produces excellent images than the Standard Definition TV.

Television Flexibility
Other manufacturers on the other hand add more functions on TV like more video and audio input and output for more fun at viewing. You get to enjoy more at watching films in digital versatile discs or DVDs and Blu-ray discs which are high-end technologies for film storage. With these added features, you can fix your camcorders or game consoles on your TV so that you can view and play with more visual amusement and convenience.

Manufacturer Warranty
Aside from learning what it takes to be a good television, we should also understand what it takes to look after them as an asset.

Most TV manufacturers offer a TV warranty service for customers to provide a maximum user satisfaction. TV warranties cover damages resulting from the potential technical problems of TV itself but not on damages resulting from misuse of the owner or accidents. Warranty covers apply for 12 months for most LCD TVs and will be longer for newer TV models. So if your TV is one of the state-of-the-art models where only experts has the intelligence to handle it, it would be better if you ensure a warranty for your TV.

Personal Maintenance
Televisions will live longer if it’s being taken cared off well by its users. You can do simple maintenance by never allowing your TV to be placed under heat and moisture, or else, proper display will be ruined. Also, put your TVs away from filthy places or in locations where it is prone to being poured of liquid substances to avoid electronic malfunction inside the product. The insides of your LCD TV is composed of sensitive electronic parts. Exposing them to accidents may lead to the demise of your new acquired TV.

To get the best buy for your television requires a great deal of circumspection and a considerable amount of technical knowledge. Think well starting from the pre-purchase up until the post-buying issues like maintenance and repairs. Being one of the valuable things at home, owning it surely requires careful use.

I have heard that running the air conditioner in the car burns a lot more fuel than otherwise. It is there for your convenience, but you might want to save that for only times when it is necessary. Otherwise, just keep things really simple.

Under inflated tires are never a good idea. When you drive, they cause extra friction between your vehicle and the road and you burn more gas. How about you see to better gas pressures in your tires all the time. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Every time you have to drive out of town, you need to make sure that you car is in top notch condition. Nothing burns gas worse than a car that is not properly serviced. You can have the spark plugs changed, the distributor wires cleaned out, the tires well inflated, and the oil changed every so often.

You need to also consider a strong battery when trying to be economical with your car, one of the best and reliable battery chargers on the market is the leisure battery charger makers. They make incredible chargers for RV’s in particular.

In your bid to save gas, you don’t want to mix the substance with some other one. That will damage your engine for sure, and cause it only to burn more gas still. So what you thought was a help in the beginning could actually cause you more pain in the end. You want to keep your fuel pure and free from all of those additives they make a bid deal of on television.

On longer trips, you can’t have anything wrong with your car. If there is, you will spend more on that journey than you need to, and the least of it will not be on gas. Save gas by checking to see that your car is in perfect working order.
