English Court: Top Gear didn’t libel Tesla

Posted by on Friday, 21 October, 2011
BBC’s Top Gear (it’s like The Engadget Show, but for cars) did not libel Tesla Motors when it reviewed the Tesla Roadster way back in 2008. Jeremy Clarkson’s review showed the super-EV conking out after 55 miles of driving (a quarter of its expected range), suffering brake failures and an engine overheat that Elon Musk’s company flatly denies ever happening. In the High Court, however, Mr Justice Tugendhat said that people could tell the difference between Clarkson’s torturous, heavy-footed “powerrrrrrrrr” driving that goes on at Dunsfold Aerodrome, and the staid manner in which people drive on motorways. Tesla still maintains that the review has damaged its image, which is why it’s also pursuing a claim for malicious falsehood, yet to be decided — and on that bombshell, here’s the original, legally non-libelous review for your enjoyment… goodnight!

Sports Utility Vehicles And Gas Mileage – Reaching The Best Compromise Between Power And Economy

Posted by on Tuesday, 28 December, 2010

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about current technology, it’s that cell phones continue to get smaller, but Sports Utility Vehicles get bigger. Why do you think this is? Now, I can understand the handiness of a compact mobile telephone, but why do suvs need to be so big? Are American families really that big? Not from what I’ve seen. In point of fact, statistics demonstrate that the average American family is getting smaller. Folks are not having as many kids as they used to. Heck, who can pay for it?

Now, this brings me to gas mileage. Clearly some modern autos get horrible gas mileage. Most of them fit in the Sports utility vehicle category. Particularly since no one can pay for those German and Italian sports automobiles. So how do normal middle class individuals and families pay for such awful gas bills? I am not so sure many of them can at this juncture. If that were the case, vehicle companies would not be coming out with more affordable models such as the Rav-4 and Honda Element.

I think people are now on the look-out for the very best gas mileage Sports Utility Vehicle. By now you’ve seen some of the hybrid cars out there. These are the autos that run on gas and battery-cell power. It sounds a little bit funny, but you just may like it. As your vehicle burns gas, it charges the battery-cell, and then the battery-cell takes over for a while. Pretty nifty if you are looking to save on gas.

As well as this nuance, automotive companies are striving to produce the very best gas mileage Sports utility vehicle. Naturally they all want to compete for the uppermost spot and gain the customers’ devotion. Currently the Honda CR-V, Lexus RX 330, Mitsubishi Outlander, Ford Escape, as well as the Toyota Highlander are all in the game. These autos a little domestic to wind up on a show like Top Gear, but then, Top Gear does not feature autos you could use in the actual real world. If you are looking for autos you can use for the family, not to be featured on Top Gear, then you could do worse than these SUVs. These SUVs are lacking nothing as far as a modern sport utility vehicle is concerned, but won’t break your purse or wallet.

You might as well keep away from those gorgeous H2s if you are searching for the very best gas mileage Sports Utility Vehicle. You may have to take a step downward to the H3 for better gas mileage. Generally the larger scale vehicle you go to, the more it costs to fill that tank. Not to mention the gigantic V8s they stick in them. These engines are gas hogs! So when you are out doing a little bit of window shopping, remember that bigger isn’t always better when it comes to Sports Utility Vehicles.

Let Us Discuss The Latest Selection Of Boss Chrome Wheels

Posted by on Thursday, 8 April, 2010

Owning a car is of course incredibly useful, but also it is a way in which we portray our tastes as well as status. When we look to buy a new vehicle we may often spend many weeks checking out the latest options to be certain of investing our money in a model that suits our personality. However, no matter how much time you spend checking out all the new options, the car you buy is likely to be sold in large numbers. For this reason, many people now choose to modify their vehicles with various accessories. If this were of interest to you, then the best place to start would be the wheels, why not think about adding a set of Boss rim to create a new and unique style.

We should feel proud to drive our vehicles. We may spend a lot of money modifying the interior, for example with special seats and a music system, but it is the exterior that will get you noticed. Rims are a great way to create a new look, as they are very noticeable.

You should look at the car’s rims in the same way that you view your shoes. Ask yourself if you’d go to your office in a pair of dirty old pumps, most of us would not. Then why would you drive a car with boring old stock parts? Modifications help to show others that we care about every aspect of our appearance, be it on our person or in our possessions.

Maybe you are wondering why Boss rims are such a good buy as opposed to other brands. Well, the quality of the finish is second to none. There has been extensive craftsmanship and research that has gone into every single design. Of course you would want any rims to be structurally solid, this is as important as their appearance as if there was any cracks or weaknesses then they can easily come flying off when you are in top gear; the consequences of this should not need to be explained.

If you prefer to buy American goods and more so in the times of economic turmoil, you’ll be happy to find out that Boss are a wholly owned American business with factories only within the States. Your cash will not end up lining the pockets of foreign shareholders.

The amount of testing that has gone into each Boss product will give you peace of mind that they have been built satisfactorily. It’s no surprise that Boss rims are so popular. It would not be possible for any company to remain profitable these days if they did not produce top quality goods.

One issue with cheap rims is that they soon become tarnished and look unsightly. By choosing Boss rims you will have a set of rims that have a unique coating which help to prevent damage and therefore provide a much longer life. No matter what vehicle you own, be it an SUV, sports model, or a new hybrid car, then a set of funky looking rims will give you a great satisfaction and pride.

To check out the widest selection of car car rims you should look online. There are literally hundreds of websites you could browse and pick up the latest black Boss wheels items. Also, the costs associated with online shopping will be far less than in your local auto specialty store.

Want to buy that car from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?

Posted by on Thursday, 1 April, 2010

Beat City, baby. The famous Ferrari from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is being auctioned off. It’s not a real Ferrari, mind you, since the movie’s producer’s couldn’t actually afford to pay for only to have it crash in Cameron’s back yard.

The car—remember, it’s a replica—is expected to fetch between £30,000 and £60,000, or around $45,000 to $91,000.

This is the proper reaction to seeing said car:

Those fancy Pound Sterling symbols should signal the fact that the auction is going down in the UK—at Bonhams, to be exact. (As if I’ve ever heard of Bonhams before!)

And here’s a bit of random trivia: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off holds the record for being the film that I’ve seen the most times. Not that I’m in love with it or anything, but it was always on TV, and I always watched it.

I’d actually like to see the Top Gear guys but the car, so we can see James Richardson Jeremy Clarkson drive around Europe in it. “Yes, ladies, this is the Ferris Bueller car. Ta-ta!”

McLaren MP4-12C: We live in a world where $225,000 cars are considered ‘affordable’

Posted by on Sunday, 21 March, 2010

Watch out, Nicholas writing about cars, there’s bound to be errors! (No different from anything else, really.) It’s the McLaren MP4-12C, a £150,000 ($225,000) supercar that McLaren is actually positioning as “affordable.” I mean, an Xbox 360 Arcade SKU is “affordable,” maybe even a fancy gaming mouse when you consider what they do… Oh, I know who would consider this supercar affordable: people who play for Manchester City.

The British supercar made its fancy debut yesterday, surrounded by Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Supposedly it’s the UK’s answer to the Ferrari 458—Italian, of course.

It can go 0 to 60mph in 3.4 seconds. I believe that’s an impressive number.

The exterior is one single piece of carbon fiber. That’s the new “cool” material, right, carbon fiber? You hear about it all the time on Top Gear.

There’s no video of it in action, unfortunately. Someone call The Stig, or Matt. Whoever’s available.

And now Redbox will have to wait 28 days for new Warner Bros. DVDs

Posted by on Wednesday, 17 February, 2010

Warner Bros. has agreed a new deal with Redbox that will give Redbox access to its DVDs, but only 28 days after the retail release. The move is designed to encourage people to actually buy the shiny, new DVDs when they come out. Why is that a problem?

The idea makes sense from Warner’s perspective. It’s no secret that DVD sales aren’t what they used to be, so Warner wants to squeeze every last penny out of them as possible. Think: what was the last DVD you purchased? I bought a couple of Dragon Gate USA DVDs the other day, but that hardly counts. I bought a Top Gear DVD collection in London in the fall, but that was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: when will I ever go to an HMV again? Before that? I couldn’t even tell you, probably like a Simpsons season in 2005 or something. The point is, who buys new DVDs anymore? Exactly.

That’s what Warner’s afraid of: people will just rent all movies from now from places like Netflix and Redbox and iTunes. (I imagine Redbox is pretty damn huge, what with it being right there in Wal-Mart. As we all know, Wal-Mart runs this country.) So, in order to prevent Redbox from eating into its sales for a bit, we now have the 28-day wait. Big deal, it’s 28 days.
