iBooks Author gets new EULA, aims to clear writer’s block

Posted by on Monday, 6 February, 2012

We’ve waxed lyrical about iBooks Author at the technological level, but a good self-publishing platform counts for nothing if authors are put off by its terms and conditions. A particular source of antagonism so far has been the notion that, if an author decides to charge a fee for their iBook, then Apple will claim exclusive distribution rights and prevent them from publishing their work anywhere else. Check out the More Coverage links below and you’ll see that a number of writers tore up Apple’s licensing agreement and flung it into the proverbial overflowing trash can. Now though, Cupertino has done some re-writing of its own and come up with a new EULA. It clarifies that Apple will only demand exclusive distribution rights over .ibooks files that are created with iBooks Author, rather than the book’s content itself. It states that “this restriction will not apply to the content of the work when distributed in [another] form.” So, there it is — writers everywhere can happily go back to tearing up their own work again.

BinCam

We’re not sure how comfortable we are with everyone online being able to examine our, as the Brits would say, “rubbish.” But our friends across the pond are apparently ok with it, seeing as it’s the home of BinCam — a research project out of Newcastle University that posts pictures of people’s trash on Facebook. At the heart of the experiment is an Xperia X10 Mini strapped under the lid of a garbage can that automatically snaps a photo every time it’s opened and closed. That image is then uploaded to the BinCam Facebook app, where you’re showered with public shame for failing to sort your recyclables or celebrated for not wasting food. And, just in case you think this is all an elaborate joke, check out the BBC report after the break the the study of how it affected student behavior at the source.

Portable brain tumor treatment system kills cancer while you take out the trash

Posted by on Sunday, 17 April, 2011

We’ve seen robots that perform brain surgery and lasers that cook tumors, and now a team of researchers are well on their way to bringing mobility to the battle against brain cancer. The NovoTTF-100A, which just received FDA approval, is basically a set of insulated electrodes, attached to an electronic box, that pumps low intensity electrical fields to the site of a freshly diagnosed GBM (glioblastoma multiforme) tumor. The fields, known as Tumor Treatment Fields (TTF), play off the electrically charged elements of cancer cells to stunt the tumor’s growth, and may in some cases actually reverse it. A recent test of the system showed comparable results to chemotherapy, without the usual lineup of side effects, including nausea, anemia, fatigue, and infection. Given, patients using the system are expected to wear the thing continuously, but we’d say walking around with a cap full of electrodes is a small price to pay for giving cancer the boot. Full PR after the break.

Earn Gold in WOW With Ease

Posted by on Saturday, 9 April, 2011

A saying that definitely applies here is to recollect that one player’s trash is another’s treasure. Your job is to get the rubbish from those players and then get that treasure to another player who is willing to pay Tons of money for that item. Because this is such an important part of your gold making, I’m going to spend the next couple of pages going over the sale House and the way to best use it. Rather than buy gold in WOW, It will save your real cash if you us the following easy tips.

My first advice to you is to install a good third party MOD who will help you at the sale House. The one that I like the most is one called Auctioneer. This is a free mod who is priceless to you as someone that is making an attempt to maximize your revenue. To download Auctioneer, go to tohttp://auctioneeraddon.com / and go to the Downloads section. When you’ve the add-on installed, the very first thing you’ll notice with this new MOD is that there is now a Scan button on the browses through tab of the sale screen. You are going to want to run this scan at least one time a day for roughly week so it can build a database file of all items that are selling in the sale House. Ideally, if you can do this once in the morning and again in the evening for roughly a week, it will cover almost every item that gets sold. Dependent on the quantity of auctions running at the time, the scan can infrequently take upwards of ten minutes. I know this sounds rather like a long time but trust me. This is time very well spent. After a week of doing these scans, the database file should have all of the information you want to make good choices when buying and selling items. It probably would not hurt to run this occasionally down the road to keep your database file recent. Now you have your database file created and recent with all of the latest auction information, you’re now prepared to buy items inexpensive and then turn around and sell them right back for an Impossible to believe profit! We will get into that more in a little.

Another feature added with this add-on is the Enhanced Tool Tip. When you hover over an item, it will provide you with another smaller window that has additional information. As you can see, this is a Rare Pattern ( Blue item ) that is now being sold at the sale House for eight wow gold 50 silver with a Buyout of 10g. Towards the base of the window, it permits you to know that this item is sold by a Vendor for a mere thirty Silver. The vendor that sells this particular item is Rikqiz in StranglethornVale at Booty Bay. This is highly important information as it basically is letting you know that you can get a pattern for thirty Silver and in turn, sell the crafted item it makes at the sale House for roughly 8-10 Gold. After the cost of materials, this is around a 2000% profit!!
.Because it is saying that this item is sold by a seller, doesn’t necessarily mean that is the one place you can get it. If you remember from earlier, another person’s trash is just waiting for you to get it. When you see items like this, you can search the sale House for them to work out if you’ll be able to find them inexpensive. One of the things you most likely have just noticed is that when you go to sell a pattern or formula, the sale defaults the starting bid to a miniscule amount. You’d be surprised at what quantity of people don’t trouble to change these values or if they do, they’ve still got it far below market value. In turn, you may constantly find all sorts of formulas, plans, and patterns which are being sold for Silver by players who don’t get the things they are selling. What you should do is buy these things, run over to the closest mailbox to collect the things, and then run right back to the sale House to put them back on the marketplace for a massive profit. You can use the Auctioneer add-on to get the Suggested Beginning Bid and Buyout that it endorses. You may take a fast look at some of the other auctions for that same item. If you find other auctions for that very same item, make sure that you have a Buyout Price that may be a little less than everyone else’s auction. If you’re the only one selling that item, then you essentially have a monopoly of that item in the sale House permitting you to set your own price .

How does the Auctioneer know all this information for these items you ask? The answer is the Scan feature that was debated above. Like the market, the economy in WOW is in a flux and is continually changing. That is what the Auctioneer specializes in, scanning the World of warcraft economy and building a database of all items and their value out on the market.

Something else nice about this Add-On is that even if you are not at the sale House, you can still see what is selling for a low price by running the command “/ auctioneer broker”. This will return a listing of items having a buyout of something that is much less than what the market is paying. This is a really nice feature to use for the occasions when you are not always near an Auction House because it will tell you if there is anything worth going back for.

The last feature of the Auctioneer Add-On that I want to touch on is the new Search Auctions tab. This is by far the best feature of the Auctioneer. What this will do is scan all current auctions and compare against the information it has gathered in previous scans to show you what items are selling for and how much profit can be made on that item if you were to get it and then re-sell it at the existing market value.

Is It A Windshield Repair Or Windshield Replacement You Will Require

Posted by on Friday, 11 March, 2011

We’ve all experienced the issue, traveling down the highway with no care in the world and all of a sudden there is a deafening “pop” which sounds like a gun shot in the car. Now you realize the loud gun shot noise was obviously a rock flying off the car or truck tire in front of you and striking your windshield, consequently making a crack to the glass. Things such as this fit into the category of “frustrating.” It is an easy task to take your car to the nearest auto glass shop to get it fixed but most people that try this find themselves investing in a whole windshield replacement rather than a common windshield repair.

A full auto glass replacement just isn’t needed in almost all scenarios relating to windshield chips. There may be a lot less complicated and less expensive way of fixing that frustrating crack in your auto glass. Windshield repair kits are usually affordable and easy to use that is why I would recommend picking one up and perhaps saving you some bucks over the expense of a whole windshield replacement.

There’s 2 layers of glass which make up the front windshield on the car. Between both layers of glass is a polymer material that is utilized to strengthen the glass and keep it from shattering in to a million bits in the time of a vehicle collision.

Windshield repair can be simply completed due to the front glass being created from these two separate layers of glass. Typically the top layer of glass is the only layer that is chipped due to the impact from stones along with other highway trash. This leaves the bottom layer intact which is the reason windshield repair can be done. It is rather cost prohibitive to have a auto glass replacement in the present economy therefore if you are able to use windshield repair to save some funds and keep the chip from spreading further I’d highly recommend doing this.

Occasionally not just the top or first layer of glass is broken or the break is right inside the drivers line of site above the steering wheel. In either of those circumstances you should think about a full windshield replacement. Impairment to the vehicle driver can occur any time both layers of the glass are chipped or the damage is in the driver’s primary line of site.

If the damage can be fixed then you definitely should do something to correct it as quickly as you possibly can. Leaving the chip for a long period of time can cause it to fill with other weather elements and weaken. As the break weakens it will begin to spread over the entire windshield. Once this happens you will need to call for a complete replacement which can be far more high priced than just a repair.

With the appropriate tools it’s very easy to perform windshield repair. The way of repairing damage within your windshield is the same no matter what manufacturers product you choose to use.

You will start off filling in all areas by treating the chip with resin utilizing some type of syringe. Right after you’ve treated the chip you will place a special Ultra-violet light above the repaired spot for approximately 2 minutes which will make the resin to solidify. The solidified repair should look 80 to ninety percent less visible when completed properly.

These small windshield repair kits are great for single applications however, if you are needing to complete more than one repair I would suggest exploring whether you should get a professional auto glass restoration kit. Professional auto glass restoration kits typically come with sufficient resin to perform around one hundred repairs and cost about nearly as much as 10 consumer kits.

In case you are not the “do it yourself” sort of individual then it’s not hard to locate a professional windshield repair tech to perform these repairs for you. Windshield repair from a skilled organization will probably cost between $50 to $75 for just one crack and often $15 to $35 for each and every additional crack on the same car. This may seem costly but it’s far less compared to a whole windshield replacement cost. You may also contact your insurance company to find out if they will take care of the price to get a windshield repair. Nearly all insurance firms will waive the deductible for the windshield repair because it falls within the comprehensive area of your insurance plan.

Protecting you and your family from highway debris and other weather conditions while driving a car is exactly what the windshield is ideal for. That is why regardless of how tiny the damage is it’s very vital that you get it fixed as soon as possible to make sure you and your family continue to keep safe from exterior components.
